John it is half past midnight and I have been struggling with sagging drawers from a used ikea dresser I just bought. The hot glue trick is brilliant. Thank you and whatever genius passed this knowledge to you and all the hot glue ancestors before them. I was so worried I’d have to go out and purchase wood glue and cut scrap wood and you saved me. Thank you. I hope all your plants grow green leaves and your produce tastes of warm sunshine and nurturing rain.
This was sooooo helpful... easy to do...and doesn't require tools. I love it as i have all these at home, instead of some of the other videos that require buying stuff and drills... i will be trying this as i currently have both problem with my ikea dressers☺ cant wait to get them fixed
The hot glue method works! I've tried it and it has been solid for 2 weeks so far. Many thanks! The bottom of the drawer sagging had been driving me nuts. Am so happy (easily made happy).
That's great! I'm gonna try the hot glue and wood glue for the bottom and side but also have a tear in some of the weird wood stuff. What do you think I could do about that? It's torn out where a screw was.. Thanks!!
Oh so many times the instructions say No glue needed. Ignore and glue them anyway.Did the other end of the dowels need glue to prevent the drawer front from coming off leaving all the dowels in the sides?
Hi - I have some of the malm dressers and I want to replace the drawer glides with longer extension ball bearing drawer glides that allow the drawers to go all the way out. Could you make a video for this? Especially curious of what hardware would work.
on the Hemnes dresser one of the wood slots in the front between each drawer broke. The dresser is all together. it split. Any suggestion on how to repair without taking it apart. TY
It seems like the last Ikea dresser I put together told me to glue it (and even came with a small tube of glue for the dowels). Maybe that was a different brand though and not the Ikea brand. I did fix a drawer bottom recently and just added a few 18ga brad nails to the bottom to pin the drawer together a bit. The hot glue would have been much easier. I may try that if any other drawers start acting up on that dresser.
my daughter has the same dresser and her drawers look crooked. the middle also looks like it’s sinking in. Do you know why this could be? Is it defective or was it just assembled wrong?
We have done that trick and the drawer is still together. However it seems that dresser it self has gotten wider cause when we try to put draw back on track it wont go in do you have any fix for that?
Ok, it’s 4am and I’ve been trying to fix my drawers, I tried the wood glue a couple of times and it didn’t work but I’m going to Walmart at 7am and I going to buy a hot glue gun. If that don’t work, I’m throwing my dresser out lol
hello John- important question as i'm picking up an assembled Hemnes dresser from Craigslist tomorrow- can you tell me how i can take the drawers all the way out? is it difficult or tricky? i know they have sliders but sometimes it's a pain to get one out?
ah thank u! can i trouble u for one more question before i try to pick it up in my SUV? can you tell me how TALL it is? i think it's 63" long but i don't know the exact height. if u get a chance. the seller hasn't gotten back to me about that part. lol
Why did you only glue 1/2 of the wood dowels? Wouldn't it worked better to glue the whole dowel? Like the idea of reinforcing the bottom with hot glue.
+Chris Smith Yes it would work better if both halves are glued, but to date the other half of the dowel never pops out. If it does, I can glue it then.

Hot glue is always the answer, to almost anything. Interesting video John
+Robin Lewis indeed. Thanks.

How's now
Is it still good?
@@arfabutler4391 Still good.
I'll definitely use the hot glue trick! I have a drawer that keeps doing the same thing. Thanks John!
THANK YOU. I had this exact same issue with the exact same drawer! I'm guessing this is why people hate on ikea a lot lol

Me too!

+James Robinson You could add the glue to the drawer front, but in this particular case, the dowels were firmly snug into the drawer front.

We no longer have these dressers, so I won't be making another ikea dresser video anytime soon.

You have to email me a picture of the damage in order for me to give you good advice. john at ourhomefromscratch dot com.
ok i will try to get a picture it is at mydaughters
Our Hemnes drawer is stuck from closing it too hard. Any suggestions to get it open? Thank you.
take the whole thing apart
Any tips on how to replace the bottom of the drawer? Mine has ripped and needs to be replaced but Ikea does not provide replacements paid or free
Just buy a piece of thin plywood from your local home center that's roughly the same thickness and cut it to the same dimensions as the ikea piece.

Brad nails are a good idea, but I figured this would be a touch easier.
“Sniffing The Glue”...😂
😅😂 It was funny to me also
After learning from big Alex drawers ....Definitelly will be applying glue next time i am BUILDING new ikea drawers :) (why bother twice ....)

Hard to tell if it's defective. Recommend you disassemble it and reassemble it with glue and hot glue as per this video and see how it goes.

Yeah, recommend you take the dresser apart and put it back together and this time use wood glue on all of the dowel joints.
How long did the sagging drawer fix last?
Still holding up so far.
@@OHFScratch Is it still holding up two years later?
@@christinam.3715 Yep
@@OHFScratch Another duration check - is it still holding up?
@@patrickshehane1697 The house was destroyed in a tornado last year and the dresser was lost.

hello John- important question as i'm picking up an assembled Hemnes dresser from Craigslist tomorrow- can you tell me how i can take the drawers all the way out? is it difficult or tricky? i know they have sliders but sometimes it's a pain to get one out?
It's pretty easy. You just pull the drawer straight out until it stops, and then you tilt the front of the drawer up and pull out again.
ah thank u! can i trouble u for one more question before i try to pick it up in my SUV? can you tell me how TALL it is? i think it's 63" long but i don't know the exact height. if u get a chance. the seller hasn't gotten back to me about that part. lol
That I don't know. Hemnes is a series of cabinets, not just one particular cabinet. It could vary.

It'll break again...eventually... They only last me a couple most...
Tush is happy
