Great project for someone can see great potential
Home really needs an update. Mold upstairs on the walls.
I live in the US and notice your listing and many others have so many doors closing off every room. Is this due to cooler climes in the UK? Or due to period of the homes?
It's mostly to do with when the homes were built. I live in a cooler, very Scottish in climate, part of the US. Open concept interiors date from the mid 20th century forward. In the UK a lot of the properties are much older than this. Sometimes someone with money will remodel and create an open concept interior, but more often than not they devote funds to retrofitting windows, updating plumbing and installing central heating. Structural work is very expensive.
@@bethenecampbell6463thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I do love the deep windows and cottage feel of the homes shown on these sites. I live in the PNW, so an " Old " home here is of course... 1880's? Personally, I think I was just born in the wrong century!
@@SpotTheBorgCat I'm in the PNW as well. I'm on a local landmarks advisory board and we're starting to work on preserving mid century properties. The oldest house in town is a Victorian farmhouse. I'm often amazed at the way much older properties in Europe are retrofitted for modern use. I hate when they're stripped of every historic detail, but many are respectfully done.
@@bethenecampbell6463 I hear ya! I can understand if some things can't be salvaged due to black mold or extreme deterioration, but some of the destruction just seems out of pure ignorance and some greed. The old saying, "They don't make it like that anymore." is sure true. Pride of craftsmanship.
@@SpotTheBorgCat Yes. There are many reasons historic details aren't preserved. A lot of it is the personal taste of the property owners. I have a lot of respect for the ones who keep period fireplace surrounds, picture rails and moldings, etc., choosing to create a modern looking interiors with paint choices and furnishings. A few of my favorites in the UK have a Victorian era built in range in what was originally the kitchen of an old house. Rarely are they functional, but I've seen several where the range was cleaned, repaired and reblacked. Then it just gets used as a side table or cupboard. It's just neat to see that little piece of the home's history.
in the US, this would be a total gut job and flipped....depending on how much they want for it...that carpet is weird and the attic has mold.
It's not the us, thankgoodness
Not everyone can rock the little old lady with doilies aesthetic. But the house has a lot of potential and could be quite nice with minimal investment.
