Love the bias tape technique. I didn’t add the zipper on a vest because I didn’t like the exposed zipper tape inside. (I would know every time I wore it.) Used toggle buttons instead. Your Oakley (Grey leopard print) with the facings was the inspiration for my vest. Love the examples. Always enjoy seeing your past makes. Can’t wait to see Martin in his new jacket. 🎉
Thanks for the ideas! I also see some RTW have a covered zipper, meaning a bias strip around the zipper before applying the zipper. I see this esp. on the quarter-zip wool tops.
The bias sewn to the zipper before gets 4 layers of bulk there. I know it's easier. I did the extra work of trimming one side to only have 3 layers there instead of 4.
Totally agree with you - I love the Lumia jacket and it really bugged me that the zipper tape was exposed particularly when the zipper is not the exact colour so use your first technique and use bias binding - so much better!
Very timely video for me - I finished a Love Notions Oakly vest today in softshell material, not really happy with the zipper finish and generally the inside look, this technique will go a long way to completing the second one I have planned and making it look much more professionally finished. Thank you.
Like you @arcticfox50 I also finished an Oakley and did not like the exposed zipper so I didn’t wear it. Now I can rework that zip thanks to Karina’s tutorial!
Great job, love the tip. Have you ever used men's silk ties for bias tape? Whitney on itch to stitch showed it a long long time ago, but I would love to see a more detailed explanation of how to make bias tape out of men's ties. I love the color and the fact it would be silk.
Hi Karina Amazon and Temu both have colored twill tape and so does twilltape.com. Not sure if you tried those places. Great video your work is beautiful.

Great technique for a nice finished zipper. Thank you for the video...❤❤
That looks so much tidier. It really lifts the look of the finished garment.
These are great techniques. Thank you!
Very useful tutorial. Thanks
Glad you liked it

@@LiftingPinsandNeedles I see what you mean. I think I'm talking about a different technique or workflow. Too bad it's not possible to upload photos!
Thank you for sharing these techniques. ❤
This helped me so much!!

Oh. My. Thank you!
Beautiful ❤
What size twill tape would you buy to cover zipper and seams? Thank you in advance ❤
@@sleeplessinscandia6452 because it adds bulk, 3/8” is plenty wide for the purpose :)

We don’t have any silk ties and if we had them, I would not tear them up to make bias tape. I really can’t justify silk bias tape to be honest.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles too bad. They sell them really really cheap here in the US . Lots of silk ties in the thrift store really cheap.
@@cheryl3366 I’ve never even seen a tie in a thrift shop here…. Just clothes.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles I understand. You have a great channel and I love your content.

It's not worth me buying international due to the exorbitant shipping and taxes I have to pay. Add a 2-3 month delivery time......
