    Enjoy your DIY drummer content, basses look and sound nice. I second hand obtained a Side Kick Drums (local to St. Louis) Skinny Bass 6x22 from a guitarist which I think got some popularity during the Stomp-Clap-Yeah Mumford and Son days. I made shallow 12" and 16" concert/nesting toms (stand mounted) from the other half of shells used for a suitcase set project. Having a kit that it suited to a gig really helps with getting to the right mental space and vibe.

    I think this is the same kit you used in your "5 Days In The Studio" video, which sounded absolutely fantastic on tape. To me, that's the litmus test: if it can hold up in the studio, it can pretty much hold its own anywhere. It's great that you've built gear you can trust to deliver what you require from it. Kudos!

    Great video as always, Mike! After following you, Reverie Drums and Nordic Shells for a while, and seeing this awesome set of videos for your small kit and other small builds like the concert toms, I'm really interested in doing something like this myself. I've had an idea to do 12x7, 14x10 (or 14x11) and 18x12, matching the finish of the custom snare I built about 6 years back. The one thing that's getting me caught up for this is figuring out measuring holes for the lug layout- not just the circumference around the drums, but the depth of the holes from the bearing edge, and then figuring out what size lugs to use. How do you figure out what size lugs to use and how deep down to drill for the lugs? Of course it may be a bit different with double sided lugs vs single sided lugs, which I'm still figuring out as well, how do you recommend approaching this part?

    • @malonedrum
      @malonedrum  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This will get you started with layout stuff. As for depth stuff, it's a lot simpler for measuring, all depends on what lugs you buy and where you want them placed and buying appropriate length tension rods.

    Does anyone know watching this channel, if lacquering the inside of the shell of the drum makes it sound better? For those drums with a raw sanded inside shell would it be beneficial sound wise to lacquer the inside of the drum? Can't find videos on this.
    Ty so much

    • @malonedrum
      @malonedrum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would make the surface harder, and my guess would be maybe reflect sound more, but I really don't think it'll make it sound better.
