    As a long term fan of SteelSeries headsets I bought a SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and installed Steelseries GG and Sonar about 6-12 months ago. It has been a total nightmare.
    I know that for some people it is a no brainer. Install and forget. For me, the problem is that Sonar takes over control of my sound settings at boot. But it is too stupid to recognize and remember to use my speakers when I'm not using the headset is powered off... leaving me with no sound. Maybe it is trying to send the sound to a monitor with no sound support instead of the speakers.
    Whatever it is, the only band-aid is to always MANUALLY switch between speakers and headset in the Windows Sound Settings, as if Sonar was installed. But since Sonar steals the sound back to its own control at reboot... you have to do this every day.
    I kept Sonar around for a year hoping that SteelSeries would implement a bug fix but nope... they are too lazy and incompetent to do that. Ended up uninstalling. At least now my sound settings are remembered between reboots.
    Will never buy a SteelSeries product again.

      Any 3rd party audio program you use has this issue. It's not possible to register a change by default especially if your headset has a dongle. The way windows does this is if you're audio device is completely unplugged/disconnected.
      Yes, SteelSeries takes priority over audio devices. You can uncheck it from starting at system start. But, you might as well uninstall it at that point.
      Sonar, and other audio interfaces aren't meant for speakers and headsets to be used in unison.
      Having to manually swap is just always gonna be a problem with these programs. Purchasing an actual mixer can limit the change or hell a stream deck that has a script to change audio devices with a button press. Other than that you are limited with what you can do.
      These programs are mostly made for casual gamer and for live streamers. It's primary focus is to cater to the streamers. This sucks if you want this a general use and like swapping audio devices.
      I also don't buy headsets anymore. I swapped to IEM's. Which sound a hell lot better than headsets to be honest. Sound awesome for games, music, movies, etc. The only problem with these is they are ear buds. They go in your ear. I personally like that. But, some people prefer headsets/headphones still.

      @@ehchad I hear you. The sad thing is that before Sonar... the SteelSeries headsets did a magnificent job of automatically switching between headset and speakers by simply pushing the headset power button. That was the main reason I used to buy that brand.

      @ehchad  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nospamallowed4890 Yeah, that sucks. It really does suck that these apps dont really think about if you have speakers or not. I have speakers as well and i have to manually change them. I use voice meeter over sonar now. I have a keypress on my stream deck for switching to speakers so i dont have to go in the app do it. Its a work around and works good. But other than that i dont got much else of a solution at the moment.

      @medixsteve 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ur video shows that, but that way seems like I can only control the sound to OBS. I want music playing for my stream, but I don't want it overpowering my game sound. I play it very low in my personal stream but not for the live feed.

    @david243121 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great tutorial! Thanks. One thing to note- Since you recommend (and I agree with) using separate tracks in OBS, instead of the Stream track, there's really no point to enable streamer mode on SS? Right? Might as well keep the sliders more simple in regular mode, and then use OBS sliders in the mixer to change track volumes for the stream.

    • @ehchad
      @ehchad  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@david243121 the problem with that is if you want to lower your volume it will lower the track in OBS too. Thats why i recommend Streamer mode checked on still even using separate tracks in OBS. You can change the volume for yourself and it wont affect the track in OBS. I would love it to not have it checked on and make it simplistic but it limits you.

    • @ehchad
      @ehchad  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@david243121 It all comes down to personal preference. So, basically finding your own setting that works for your stream and how you like to listen to your audio. There’s no “right” way of doing it. I dont use sonar anymore. I went back to voicemeeter as it suits my needs better. I did order the Wave link 3 yesterday. So i will be seeing how that is once it arrives and may make a video on the eglato software.

    • @david243121
      @david243121 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ehchad that makes sense. And it does come down personal preference, like he said. I think once I dial-in the audio levels on my stream, I guess I won’t really ever have a need to change them much. However, maybe I want to adjust my own levels of what I hear in my headset which stream mode would enable this.
      I just got a Razer Stream Controller on prime day. I’ve been able to create keyboard shortcuts, which I programmed into the knobs to control each of my audio channels via Sonar which is pretty rad.
      I almost got the Elgato Stream Deck, which comes with Wavelink, but I liked the additional row of buttons and two additional knobs that the one I got offered. Wondering if I made the right choice. I could always return it and buy the Elgato.
      Curious to see your video and know what you think about wavelink!

      @ehchad  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@david243121 For sure! Yeah i have had a stream deck for a few years and love having that on my desk. I configured mine for audio on short press changes the value by 2 or -2 long press resets the audio to 0 or the lowest volume i like my music at while playing. I have been happy with the stream deck. But, you dont have to own a stream deck to do the fancy stuff. Plenty of products that do the same things. I’m not too sure what the limitations are for yours but i know with elgato you can download extensions/plugins for extra button controls. For several apps like discord itself and most other apps. I have never had an issue with mine and dont really have anything bad to say about the stream deck. But it isn’t necessary especially if you have something that does practically the same thing.

    so you should have them all separate for vod, but you should mix everything in stream mix just to have it done in one go as universal standard. a base line in my opinion is game: 7% chat 40% media 10% aux off mic 30% i think its better to have a sep app dedicated to music just for stream, ie could just be spotify or ytmusic, and then your normal music that you wanna hear only on aux. with it prioritizing voices over everything else, but then you add the sep devices afterwards for recording and have them all on sep channels, so you can sep and rebalance for youtube later

    • @ehchad
      @ehchad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, exactly I just prefer to have separated to begin with and have them on their own tracks. When recording i do use a different profile thats set up strictly for recording. I have my stream scene collection and my recording scene collection. Ive always separated my tracks by default. Just personal preference. But to be simplistic as possible yeah you could use stream mix and then music separate. Having them separate just makes it easier to edit in the end.

    I am really hoping that this and the SS Arena Wireless Mic are going to work well for my unique stream setup. My audio challenges are that sonar cant stop the mic from picking up background that isn't coming form the computers audio. But that isn't really related to this topic that much. Anyways, good video. Whats most likely happening is it thinks a program other than sonar is taking control of the device. Go in sound setting and then properties of your device. You see something that has a check box that says let programs take exclusive control of device. Something along the lines of that. Currently not on my pc to verify. But, that has helped me in the past with Elgato products and other headphones.

    Hello @Eh Chad , I see that you are using Voicemeeter aswell as Sonar. Which one is set to default? Since Sonar is always "nagging" about being the deafult one. Is there any special routing / setup done for Discord with Sonar that you can provide knowledge on? My friend keeps saying my micsound keeps cutting out (but he is the only one complaining).

Hopefully this helped ya.

    got the Nova7 wrls and loving the headsets with the Sonar combined, but i have hard time figuring out a) Sometimes when i share screen in discord other peoples voices watching the steam speaking in the discord channel makes their audio input echo in their headsets is it the chat mix? i am not sure, i tried muting it but they still hear themselves b) the spatial audio is kinda bad, i cant figure out a correct way to set it up, i only nowdays use EQ with different settings for each game, idk why, but it seems my older corsair which costed a fraction sounded decently with spatial audio windows drivers. I cant still understand if you really need it for fps games etc, i think if the games supports natively HRTF u dont rly need to have spatial (either sonar/windows/atmos/dts etcetc) enabled right?

      @ehchad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a really good question. I even thought about this as well. It’s one reason i prefer VoiceMeeter over Sonar. But, ideally you can set up a macro or maybe even download the stream deck mobile app and set up a key press to swap audio devices. Not the greatest but could work. Otherwise, going into sonar and manually clicking your speakers instead of your headphones works too. There’s also a program called Audio Router on GitHub. You can duplicate and or route programs to audio devices. It’s a free app that will let you basically make a program play to multiple audio devices.

      So, reading this to me is a little confusing for myself. But, I think i can roughly help. So, the "Game" audio is your main audio your pc should have set that to default device. If not set it. You must go in windows audio mixer and find the program you want to play to lets say "Aux" audio cable. Make sure that you set the "Aux" audio device as the "Output Device" on the program you want routed. This could be a rare instance of just a program reinstall. But, hopefully that helped a bit. They should have audio. Make sure your headset or headphone etc is set in Sonar as your playback for the audio channels.

      Any program that has audio will show up on the mixer. If it is set to default then it will show in the game section. If it had communication like lets say voice chat it may show up in chat but also could be game. You have to manually set the program to which output you want it to.
