As a long term fan of SteelSeries headsets I bought a SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and installed Steelseries GG and Sonar about 6-12 months ago. It has been a total nightmare. I know that for some people it is a no brainer. Install and forget. For me, the problem is that Sonar takes over control of my sound settings at boot. But it is too stupid to recognize and remember to use my speakers when I'm not using the headset is powered off... leaving me with no sound. Maybe it is trying to send the sound to a monitor with no sound support instead of the speakers. Whatever it is, the only band-aid is to always MANUALLY switch between speakers and headset in the Windows Sound Settings, as if Sonar was installed. But since Sonar steals the sound back to its own control at reboot... you have to do this every day. I kept Sonar around for a year hoping that SteelSeries would implement a bug fix but nope... they are too lazy and incompetent to do that. Ended up uninstalling. At least now my sound settings are remembered between reboots. Will never buy a SteelSeries product again.
Any 3rd party audio program you use has this issue. It's not possible to register a change by default especially if your headset has a dongle. The way windows does this is if you're audio device is completely unplugged/disconnected. Yes, SteelSeries takes priority over audio devices. You can uncheck it from starting at system start. But, you might as well uninstall it at that point. Sonar, and other audio interfaces aren't meant for speakers and headsets to be used in unison. Having to manually swap is just always gonna be a problem with these programs. Purchasing an actual mixer can limit the change or hell a stream deck that has a script to change audio devices with a button press. Other than that you are limited with what you can do. These programs are mostly made for casual gamer and for live streamers. It's primary focus is to cater to the streamers. This sucks if you want this a general use and like swapping audio devices. I also don't buy headsets anymore. I swapped to IEM's. Which sound a hell lot better than headsets to be honest. Sound awesome for games, music, movies, etc. The only problem with these is they are ear buds. They go in your ear. I personally like that. But, some people prefer headsets/headphones still.
@@ehchad I hear you. The sad thing is that before Sonar... the SteelSeries headsets did a magnificent job of automatically switching between headset and speakers by simply pushing the headset power button. That was the main reason I used to buy that brand.

By following Sonars recommendations by setting the default audio devices you shouldn't have an issue. Also make sure in Sonar "Streamer Mode" is ticked. All main desktop and default program audio will route through "SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming" audio device. That will be your default audio device for any new or program/audio that hasn't been deliberately set to a different audio device.
You should be able to use any audio device. Don't have to have steel series product. Make sure the default audio devices are set and you have the program set up correctly
Not quite sure what you're asking. But, by default when adding alerts they use a "Browser" source in OBS. By default they come with their own audio control inside the "Audio Mixer" inside OBS. Make sure you have that set to whatever track your stream or recording is set to so that way your viewers can hear the alerts. Hopefully this cleared up some issues and helped a little.

Also, i believe why you’re not seeing your programs is bc they need to be actively playing sound for sonar to register it basically.
Hi! Which version is this steelseries gg app? Cuz i can't use the newest version, it's buggy on my pc
I had whatever latest is. Although my pc is pretty good and I usually dont have too many issues. So, I don't remember what the version was on the recording. But, I run on the latest and it seems fine. Maybe hiccups occasionally.
When I start up my PC the outputs for each channel (Game, Chat, Media etc) reset back to the wrong output. Is there a way I can get the output to be set as headphones by default on startup?
nvm found it!! :D
Also great video btw. Very helpful! I had to dick around with all of this myself before finding this video and this video would have saved me so much time if I wasn't stubborn ahaha
What if obs doesnt want to capture my game/desktop audio.
@@ehchad you’re a life saver omg
How did you add the elgato
Anyone try using meta app for oculus and this app? Meta keeps disabling the app so I'll have no sound at all even when oculus isn't connected.
I have no sound when using this app, is it compulsory to have a steel series headset?
You should be able to use any audio device. Don't have to have steel series product. Make sure the default audio devices are set and you have the program set up correctly
Sonar doesn’t pop
Up at all
I was hoping someone can help me get tiktok studio to work with this setup
When i listen to the video, its crackling. Any idea how to fix this?
My steelseries gg is in Japanese/ why?
when using the gaming driver i have no sound. this annoys me. any soultiuons?
hi , and the alerts in wath channels enters the sound ?
Not quite sure what you're asking. But, by default when adding alerts they use a "Browser" source in OBS. By default they come with their own audio control inside the "Audio Mixer" inside OBS. Make sure you have that set to whatever track your stream or recording is set to so that way your viewers can hear the alerts. Hopefully this cleared up some issues and helped a little.
how can i stop my mic from clipping on discord using steelseries gg
Your audio is very choppy in this video.
i have the arctis nova pro wirless, using on a alienware laptop. The headset and mics works fine once they are on default but as soon as i try to use sonar i have no audio, it says audio is coming out but im not hearing anything, i have made sure my headsets are selected and gaming as default but still nothing ive watched videos and ran over the forums on steelseries page but nothing helped, ive messed with all the sound options what the forums told me to do but no results i even completly wiped the app from files and reinstalled but that also didnt help
