Ive noticed that for some shows, Netflix has released them on a weekly basis. For example "Great British Bake Off" had weekly releases and it wasn't bingeable. My guess for the delay is the recording sessions for the dub, their *shudder* music recordings and other licensing stuff between Netflix and Pokemon Company. The reason I started watching the Japanese Dubs of the show is because I can't stand how they butchered the sound track for the anime..The battle between Cynthia and Iris was so epic in the Japanese dub. When she summoned out her Garchomp the music was Boss battle levels of hype, The dub was terrible and it just deflated any hype for that fight. The theme songs arent as fun an energetic either. Also as much as I would love to watch it in English..some of their choices for redubbing the pokemon [heck even the voices of some characters] just doesn't fit well to me.
Yeah they have the series I watched on Netflix that released weekly was my happy marriage. I don’t understand why they won’t do that for Pokémon that is the only issue people have with it releasing on Netflix.

I hate how long we have to wait for Netflix. It reminds me of the early days when the first season first aired on local stations and already had two movies out before we got the first film. I hate the gap. As much as Disney has fallen from grace in recent years at least with Disney XD there was only a couple of months delay in episodes and the movies were released just a few months after Japanese cinema’s. Also during the Cartoon Network days the Genesect movie was only two months after Japanese theaters and got a DVD release BEFORE Japan. I miss those days and it really does hurt to the point where I have been watching fan subs and winging it with the Japanese episodes.
I remember rewatching a Pokemon episode in the Eng Dub (localized) and was rather disappointed with the OST change... I understand why it had to be done, but nearly all the cool BGMs that were present in the original were just gone and there was no impactful replacement.
In all fairness, here in Australia we didn’t get Pokémon ultimate journeys (season 25) and aim to be a Pokémon master didn’t come to Netflix until October or November roughly. That wait was painful.
I like the idea of having multiple episodes to watch at once, but I honestly feel Pokemon, the anime, is best consumed weekly. And like you said, it makes for better discussion and appreciation of each episode. Great video!
Yeah, it was annoying that the official twitter channel and from that Google posted about Ash becoming Monarch as well as winning the Alola Leauge the day it happened. Granted, I had already seen it on Serebii, but I had gone looking on Sereibii. The others it just came up as a trending story.
I wanted to say that you make a really good point in your video. It's crazy to think that the gap between the Japanese release and the US one has grown bigger instead of becoming slightly shorter than in the XY days. I share the opinion that having such a gap takes away the hype off some big events, as I've seen it first hand when Ash become world champion, having my cousin who watches the show in the European Spanish dub as they release on TV and myself who watched it when it was broadcasted in Japan (a gap which is even bigger, as we depend on the English dub first). Something should be done to shorten the time gap, but it's a complicated issue, I guess. I must say, though, that as someone who has studied how the dub process can be (in the eyes of a translator), I wouldn't really recommend a straight-up simuldub. As you mention, the whole situation to bring a product localized takes time, if you take that away, the quality drops considerably, so the product becomes harder to enjoy. Here in Spain, a few years before the streaming platforms' boom, they used to do simuldubs to shows such as The Walking Dead or Arrow in order to follow the trend, but you could easily find some issues in the released products. And even then, the dub episodes never aired at the same time as the original (around 20 hours later, the earliest, or a week or two later, the latest). All of that was regarding English to Spanish dub localizations, which are way more common here, so the workload in a Japanese to English dub (or to any language for that matter) is expected to be bigger, as the language combination is harder. In a product that needs a heavier localization like the Pokémon anime, due to its music changes, the name changes, the voice acting and even some light editing, the simuldub would be a bad option. Or at least it would be if it was done in a short period of time. With all of these, am I saying the the Netflix formula is good? Nope, absolutely not. Like you mentioned, having a bunch of episodes all at once and a big break takes away the hype quite quickly. It can work to some shows, but not to all of them. I do believe that every platform should study their products a bit more in order to know what works better in each case, instead of having the bunch of episodes as their default plan.
The fact this dude can make a video about Netflix’s decline of the anime’s localization entertaining and humorous is a testament to his script writing like damn dude you’re killing it
Yes the binge watching method is very annoying. Especially when I’ve been watching weekly back in the day on Cartoon Network , kidswb, and later Disney XD channel for sun and moon series , a movie rerun and the list goes on. Binge watching I is usually just forget about the series on Netflix after 3 or 4 episodes cuz I have other shows weekly to watch throughout the week
In Australia we get a whole season of Pokemon on Netflix at the end of each year. We just got the final season with Ash in December so we won't see Horizons most likely until Christmas.
I see & acknowledge the Japanese to English process to release as an ongoing problem that has been happening for years. Also, t.v. is not what it was in past years compared to t.v. currently. Lastly, I am caught up on Pokémon Horizons anime after watching the English subbed version online & I am not effected by the problem since I watch less t.v. than I did when I was younger.
Thanks for making this video because I still hate the fact that the official pokemon twitter account ruined the Ash v/s Leon finale even before the Masters 8 tournament started. There was no more suspense when Cindarace cornered Ash in the finals or when Cynthia went for Dynamax togekiss over mega garchomp. Like seriously, that one tweet ruined the whole experience and not to mention @Pokemon tweeting the same thing again when the English dub was released thus rubbing the salt on the wound. And for what? For following the anime since day 1 before I even started school?
Yeah, I saw it too, can’t say of what Netflix is doing “ruins” the Pokemon anime because I still enjoy it to this day and I don’t mind Netflix personally but it really sucks that the waiting gap between Japanese and English in terms of distributing takes whenever the Japanese dubbing is usually weeks or even months ahead, I personally don’t mind the English dubbing but my personal problem is the OST change like other people mentioned in the comments, I wouldn’t mind doing on a weekly basis or having the options to change languages regardless if its streaming or DVDs overall. I don’t hate Netflix but I do question their business decisions at times if that makes sense. 🥲 #pokemon
its the classic tale the best way to fight Piracy, is by making things easy to access the fact the Gen 9 anime in America doesn't even officially come out until AFTER all the DLC for ScVi is insane, with Pokemon day before the release on March 7th, its v likely an entirely different games hype cycle will overshadow the BEGINING of a pokemon generation that's already almost finished
While I am all for simul-release, even a soft simul-release would be fine with it coming out a week after the Japanese one. Gives them a week to dub it and shoot it out (of course they'd have to drop the making of new music...which would be preferred)
I literally just watch every episode on Facebook watch in English subs at the same time as it airs in Japan, I don’t need to wait longer than that. I got episode 34 on Christmas but I’m still waiting on episode 35, they posted episode 5 in English dub instead
8:49 Meanwhile, a 10-year-old self, watching Yu-Gi-Oh! in full german, barely understanding anything from context, just because there were only 48 episodes available in polish.
@@shadowwizard2383 Well either way they should stop, replacement scores in anime have been frowned upon for over 2 decades now. It's not like they can't afford the rights, they just don't care.
That might be the reason why i prefer to watch the Japanese dub because they put some great music in the series like Garchomp vs Mega Lucario it really give me a boss fight vibes. Also for the intro, when they made an OP for Pokemon series, they just reduced by 30 seconds for English with the worst choice of music except the first season of Pokemon was actually pretty good with 1 minute intro. Like why would they've done this?
The annoying thing with Netflix is that it DOES release some anime weekly as they air in Japan. They’re just really inconsistent with it and it’s always a flip of the coin it it will be batch release or weekly . This is worse when they have exclusive rights to a anime like jojo cause even japan had to wait for the batches to be on Netflix for it to release on tv there. There was no illegal alternative cause they withheld it from releasing weekly in Japan.
I don't understand sometimes why Pokemon episodes aren't just uploaded to Crunchyroll like other anime. I don't know how Pokemon and streaming distributions work with the Japanese version. But it never sat well with me the concept of Pokemon being an anime that's basically drip fed in small chunks for the American version these days. Kind of destroys momentum in my opinion. You get to a part that's all hype and then nothing for almost 5 or 6 months.
My personal complaint with Pokémon and Netflix is that not all the Pokémon movies are there yet. I rely on Audio Description as a blind viewer and there aren't any audio described versions of the older movies like Destiny Deoxys. I want movies like Destiny Deoxys, The Rise of Darkrai and Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction to make it.
Netflix is always a constant cash cow and then the massive army collection of the constant contract breakers, thus concluding: the massive butts of the jokes
I was able to keep up with journeys because I found subbed episodes on TH-cam the day after they came out and could watch them before they got taken down. I wasn’t able to get to Horizons in time to do this and now I have to wait to watch it
I honestly don't mind waiting cause I've been out of the loop with pokemon for years didn't know what was going on with it until it blew up on social media that ash became a champion since then I've been more in the loop
Crazy. The peak of my Pokémon anime experience was in X and Y- I never considered that I watched it because it was convenient. I remember the days where I had to go out of my way to search for Sun and moon, and just couldn’t take the wait time on the dub. Straight to sub. And with Journeys, I’m ngl, I watched the beginning all in dub- but I skipped maybe 2 seasons worth of episodes and just finished it off in entirely in sub. I was not gonna wait for the dub to drop months later once it was finally starting to turn up the pace. I’ll be honest. I’ve yet to watch horizons. I definitely will give it a shot, but Pokemon NEEDS to go back to the weekly schedule. At most the dub version should be a month after the Japanese- but that’s extremely wishful thinking from my end. They literally have a Pokémon TV app they don’t utilize enough in terms of the new content they drop.
Power rangers fans hate Netflix too! Why? Netflix used to have EVERY SINGLE season (every series, don’t ask), now they basically just have the newest, Mighty Morphin’, and the Netflix Original anniversary one. Although this at least applies to fans in the UK, no idea with other places
I never had cable, so I was really happy that Pokemon Journeys came onto Netflix so I didn’t have to find the episodes on sites anymore. I liked the fact that in the old days, episode gaps were 2 to 3 months and Disney XD aired a bunch of new episodes at once on certain days. Because of the internet, I get spoiled months before it comes onto Netflix. I can read subs, but I prefer the dubs because it’s easier for me. I don’t have to worry about reading. I can just enjoy it without the hassle. Netflix should have released them in July instead because we knew at least the first one was dubbed and probably more. It’s a shame that we had to wait 10 whole months after Japan, but I understand that dubbing takes time. But the English dub for the Pokemon Coco movie had a trailer almost a year before it got released onto Netflix.
I was so excited when anime became more popular on Netflix, especially because I haven't had any cable package in almost 15 years so I thought it would be easier for me to see some of these shows.. I actually thought it was going to help...and well this video explains exactly why I hate it. Plus, we don't know how long the exclusivity is going to be. Multiple Pokémon seasons and movies that were released on Netflix first are now available on physical media. Meanwhile there's been 0 news on Sailor Moon Eternal getting a physical release and it's been a year and a half now and Cosmos is likely to go through the same crap. I prefer to watch in English because sometimes my attention level makes it hard to watch subs, but I'm about to say f*** it and watch Japanese Horizons. Another thing that annoys me is that we know TCPI dubs these fast. They have aired "previews" as soon as two days after the Japanese airing. There is no reason we can't get back to 2-3 month period.
it wouldn't be too bad if the gaps between episodes airing in America weren't that far behind Japan, even the UK where I live is getting them much earlier
Im basically only able to watch the anime on Netflix and because of Netflix's weird schedule I literally finished Journeys and the homage episodes jus after Christmas but thankfully I have a savour IPlayer. I'm gonna start watching Horizon on Wednesday and I'm so excited
i had that problem about 2 years ago i got finally onto the jojo train and looked forward to the weekly discussions but then netflix happend so i woke up the next morning and saw episode 12 of stone ocean dropped and thought wtf how did i miss the other episodes
It’s interesting that the Japanese verison is different than the American verison and I was like surprised thanks to those fansubs hell we’re surprised hearing satoshi than ash
Netflix should have all of the Pokemon Seasons so when the New Season is getting worked on people can just watch the old seasons that came out before and also this would mean that people could still watch the full 25 seasons with Ash in it. So this would be a win win with the older people and the people that has just gotten into Pokemon anime. I mean this would just be so good because I love the pokemon X&Y anime then when it got removed from Netflix I could not watch it until it was on pokemon tv and that is not on anymore because of the Pokemon Co.
But Netflix is the fastest way to get Pokémon content, POKEMON tv is to far be behind. Dubs are underrated, they allow you to understand what the characters are saying.
What if I told you Pokémon is also sunsetting their international Pokémon TV app (no seriously this is true). Netflix isn’t the only culprit anymore to “ruining” the Pokémon anime.
We also don't like Netflix for their shady business practices, disrespect for viewers, constant scandals, high prices (back in my day Pokemon was free on local TV channels), international mistranslations and even character erasing.
It sucks that Horizons is so bad though...Even in Japanese. But even so..We need legal access to the Japanese versions of all the anime. This is 2023 for crying out loud..The Pokemon Company International is living in late 90's and early 2000's still...They refuse to do what everyone else is doing. Even Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh gave us subtitled episodes. I would not mind the dub if they had not backstabbed 4Kids and took the rights away. 4Kids actually made a good dub. The TPCI dub is trash...
Not gonna lie, I wish that Netflix added Japanese dub for the anime. Then they could just add subtitles to it, not having to wait for the English Dub, and imo Japanese sounds way better in Pokemon.
The way that the dub has been handled is absolutely atrocious. I wouldn’t mind watching a subtitled version of the Pokémon anime if they use the localized names of the Pokémon creatures. But I don’t want to watch the show and take a good five seconds try to remember what the hell a Fushigidane and Iwanko is. To compare, Digimon has just as bad of a dub experience, but the localization name issue is virtually non-existent. Most Digimon names are the same in ENG as they are in JP with some notable exceptions like Tailmon/Gatomon and Omegamon\Omnimon. I generally just watched the subtitled versions of Digimon nowadays because I know that I will have to wait in eternity for the English dub. And I don’t mind that. While dub is my preferred anime watching style, I am quite ok with watching subtitled anime if the dub is not available for whatever reason. But Pokémon is different. What Pokémon needs to start doing is releasing official subtitles on Crunchyroll hours after the Japanese airing. And with the dub, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be but a few months behind. In this day and age, we have the English dub of shows like Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, and Spy X Family being mere weeks after their Japanese release. Not only that, but Pokémon is one of the most successful franchises in the world. It’s not like they don’t have the means to get this done.
Tbh this how I found your channel, I wanted to keep up with pokemon journeys but the there was such a gap between the episodes for the Japanese airing I basically stopped watching. Then I saw you reviewing them on TH-cam so thays how I just kept up with the series lol
I wonder if it's just a data thing since Pokemon Horizon is played on a weekly basis in the UK but I guess Pokemon data shows that no one likes that method anymore in the USA and just prefer their stuff on a streaming service like A Netflix.
I really do agree with this also Pokémon had an app called Pokémon TV where seasons 3-19 were rotated on a monthly basis until that generation’s season were on the app then it would restart the cycle and this means they could’ve released the episodes on this app instead of Netflix and that would be great because we wouldn’t have to wait for Netflix to release they in an unreliable way.
Nice video, charusharu. I'm tired of US Netflix. US Netflix refuse to promote Pokemon on their TV commercials and has to promote American shows like Netflix One Piece. Boycott US Netflix. I want my Pokemon on US cable back. I'm tired of US cable over playing repeat and America shows like SpongeBob SquarePants. It was a sad decade for US Pokemon. Blame US Netflix. I want my Pokemon live TV channel on live TV services like Fubo TV. Im tired of today's America. Today's America really hate Pokemon these days since 2002. Today's America loves repeat like streaming video on demand and celebrities. Even American kids are not intrested in Pokemon these days. Stupid US Netflix and today's America. I really wish Pokemon should stay on US cables like Disney XD. Disney XD did a great job promoting Alola episodes and Kalos reruns. I wish Pokemon should stay airing on Disney XD. I'm sick of repeat like Friends and Beyblade. I want my Pokemon aired on US cable back.
@@perlagonzalez2734 Actually, CR has tones of animes aimed at a young audience. Shows like Digimon, and Precure is on CR. Most likely they can't beat Netflix, or Pokemon has never offered it to them. Pokemon doesn't like showing the Japanese version in the west.
Changing music in the English dub to avoid paying music rights to Japaness Composers? Is that the reason why 4Kids changed music in some of their dubs like Sonic X and Kirby: Right back at ya?
Yeah, even though it’s not entirely Netflix’s fault. I would rather weekly releases over a few months with breaks that end off in place that makes sense than it’s stupid batch release model. That model killed my hype for Pokémon journeys so much that I never even finished. There was just no point because 6 months prior I knew what had already happened
I’m still surprised that by moving pokemon to Netflix, we american viewers still can’t get to watch the anime with Japanese audio, even though most anime on that platform has audio for all of their other anime but pokemon for some reason
where are some "legal websites" i can watch this series bc i got to the end of the english dub in like a day and i like actually watching the show instead of waiting another like 2 years
Idk, Pokémon should be more specific and try to match the original version without altering much, just like the other Dubs. But they just have to localize Pokémon so hard that they don't even want the kids to know that Pokémon is a Japanese Anime, not an American Show.
So ... I have to wait for part 3 for 3 months. Well, ok, now I know how long to wait i would like to see how they voice act Sango in English dub for them funny moments i would love close as possible with the Japanese humor. ^~^💕
I remember the days where you could find sites that just uploaded everything from a series under its name. And yeah, some shows work better being released weekly than binged all at once. Especially story-driven ones that are meant to keep you guessing and in suspense.
Apparently yes, Way worse than what disney has did. Once I work for the pokemon company, I plan to give the Pokemon anime a proper english dub. However, I do have a few conditions, including a major return to TV, including Universal Kids, have the soundtrack stay true to the Japanese OST roots, along with better dubbing. Plus, no more bowdlerizing.
I would also consider doing somewhat of a simulcast too. Like what they did with one piece. Plus, it's high time for American dubbing studios to swallow their pride and realize that they need to cooperate with the anime's Japanese owners and make the anime more amazing than ever.
Double true, I would choose Crunchyroll to have the series in both Dub & Sub versions, proper subtitles, proper Japanese OST, profanity and zero bowdlerizing. Amen.
I don’t sure there have been some sacrifices but in return it’s made the anime more popular than it’s ever been in years every new season always charts in the top ten immediately Barely anyone used to talk about the anime/dub and now people talk about it everywhere So it’s a give and take Life is about balance after all
They have a handful of dubs in other languages but they never have the original Japanese audio! Horizons would have been a great starting point after all these years to have official subs OTL Because it’s a fresh start without Ash and Co
I hate Netflix because i live in Canada and Pokémon ultimate journeys came out a MONTH AGO ON NETFLIX so I’m gonna have to wait a long time before I can watch the new anime 😕
It’s great for series where a season is only 12-15ep love watching the dragon prince, blood of Zeus, onmyoji, Daniel spellbound etc all in one go instead of waiting a week for it but it should not be used for shows that go beyond the 12-15ep mark. Shows like that should be on Disney plus or something else that will release it weekly.
Whats so fucked about about the Feb release date . Is pokemon itself announced it started dubbing in english in July. Netflixs does on their whole entire platform.
And we're getting Pokemon Horizons over a month after we get the final content for Scarlet and Violet with a little over a year before we find out about Generation 10.
Two companies bad at handling and listening to the consumers of this product are making pirate sites come back like crazy. And now we got palworld too.
The way the dub is handled since Journeys has been atrocious. There's just no excuse for English dubbed releases to be getting drastically longer in this day and age, especially when they were getting shorter and shorter until Journeys.
Other anime have simuldubs. Pokémon is just stuck on the past. The whole thing with recording a different soundtrack is an archaic practice that pretty much no other show still does.
Not to mention THEY STILL don’t do the subbed version officially (for Main series) after all these years Anime is so much bigger and much more mainstream now-majority of platforms literally offer both options and here Pokémon is still refusing to give us official sub with original language New Horizons was a a great opportunity to start anew but they’re still pulling this BS-including stuff like simuldubs and etc like you said
You seem to be on point there Charles. I doubt I'd binge watch all your videos if you released a whole lot in one go if they were 30 minutes long as it would become more of a chore than an enjoyment. Great video, great points.

Yeah I know
I wanted to say that you make a really good point in your video.

the fact the Gen 9 anime in America doesn't even officially come out until AFTER all the DLC for ScVi is insane, with Pokemon day before the release on March 7th, its v likely an entirely different games hype cycle will overshadow the BEGINING of a pokemon generation that's already almost finished
That’s how I watched most of the anime I watched on sites and Pokémon I can see it on fansub

30 seconds is for more commercials.
I hope this video helps to make more Pokemon fans aware of this issue.

Here in Australia, we literally never got the final season of journeys. No getting to see ash’s battle with Leon.

I was able to keep up with journeys because I found subbed episodes on TH-cam the day after they came out and could watch them before they got taken down. I wasn’t able to get to Horizons in time to do this and now I have to wait to watch it
You can check out horizons online I took 4 months to take a break til we get to 25 episodes in I stopped after episode 25
I honestly don't mind waiting cause I've been out of the loop with pokemon for years didn't know what was going on with it until it blew up on social media that ash became a champion since then I've been more in the loop
How do you feel 12 days later considering the English dub is coming out this week
They had a Pokémon tv app.

Nice video, can you please talk about Aureliashipping
Yeah
Fun Fact: When I First Started watching journeys on netflix, every episode before ep 13 was gone
Really I sorta binged the series around February for Pokemon journeys
It’s Netflix they did the same thing with other anime it’s like they have a personal vendetta against them
Netflix should have all of the Pokemon Seasons so when the New Season is getting worked on people can just watch the old seasons that came out before and also this would mean that people could still watch the full 25 seasons with Ash in it. So this would be a win win with the older people and the people that has just gotten into Pokemon anime. I mean this would just be so good because I love the pokemon X&Y anime then when it got removed from Netflix I could not watch it until it was on pokemon tv and that is not on anymore because of the Pokemon Co.
Actually I managed to watch it on home video
But Netflix is the fastest way to get Pokémon content, POKEMON tv is to far be behind. Dubs are underrated, they allow you to understand what the characters are saying.
What if I told you Pokémon is also sunsetting their international Pokémon TV app (no seriously this is true).
Netflix isn’t the only culprit anymore to “ruining” the Pokémon anime.
I WAS SO MAD THAT I MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT AND I BEEN USING IT FOR 3 YEARS
Wdym? I barely touched that, I prefer the original language anyway after all and it’s never an official option for the main series
Yeah
So far horizons anime is not bad but hard to access the japanese verison
Not gonna lie, I wish that Netflix added Japanese dub for the anime. Then they could just add subtitles to it, not having to wait for the English Dub, and imo Japanese sounds way better in Pokemon.
Yeah I know
The way that the dub has been handled is absolutely atrocious.
Yeah I know
not only that but in canada whenever the date is announced it comes at least 2 months later
Yeah
its 24th of august and i still dont have pokemon horizons
Netflix's Binge Model is no fit for a anime that runs weekly like Pokemon.
Also ironic how Pokemon TV on the Pokemon site got shut down same day as this video...
That app is shutdown in a bit
Well the app is shutting down
Man the gap between Eng dub and sub of pokemon horizon will get larger than what One piece was with funimation dub 5 years ago
