Watching non swifties react to Taylor’s music is my favorite type of TH-cam video
buckle up! i've got her entire discography left lol
@@L4urynkingyou will not regret this rabbit hole given your reaction to this album. I started down the rabbit hole about 9 months ago and still have so much to hear for the first time but I have not regretted a minute. I have found that there are a lot of songs that hearing different versions from studio to live to acoustic to music video, are often all worthwhile because she often arranges the songs or portrays them or interprets them differently. Have fun on the journey.
Me too ❤❤❤
FACTS!!!
@@L4urynkingcan’t wait
Folklore won a Grammy Album of the Year for 2020...it was well deserved.
Fr, 100% deserved for that level of lyricism and songwriting
Folklore is definitely up there, but the great thing about Taylor’s discography is that there is something for everyone and every mood.
Folklore and Evermore are for the lyricism and feeling your emotions.
Midnights is a pop synth vibe for your 2am sleepless nights.
Red is that breakup album that gives you the heartbreak ballads at your low and the pop anthems at your highs.
Reputation is just that girl. It’s bold and brazen and badass, it’s the soundtrack you need when you need your main character energy.
And 1989 is, well it’s 1989, the pop bible, feel the sun on your face and have a great time.
It’s a bit early to really speak on Tortured Poets, but it’s Taylor at her most vulnerable and confessional for sure. Anyone caught in a pretty toxic situationship will (sadly) relate for sure.
This comment is perfect, thank you!!! I'll be coming back to this for reference
Midnights is the best , folklore is boring as hell, we all hate Aaron dessner
Blasphemy- millions of people love Aaron Dressner
What about lover?
@@florana5961ummmmm speak for yourself
taylor is definitely an album artist! its like a running gag in the fandom that she cannot pick the right singles to save her life so what you hear on the radio does not reflect her entire artistry at all, theyre rather just the boppier songs. so i really do see how people might not get her if they dont listen to the full thing. glad you did tho, youre in for a rideeee :)
True
i think it’s a smart strategy to pick the most media preferred song to be singles so it gets more popular than other ones. imo if she picked the best songs as the singles i’d cry because they’re going to be overplayed af
Ignore my thoughts on mirrorball, I NOW SEE THE LIGHT. i've been listening to this album on repeat and it's one of my favorites now! will explain more in my folklore ranking video!
You’ll find that many of her songs take a number of listens for it to gel, and songs that you originally didn’t like or understand, suddenly it all comes together and it’s like…I love it! Also, a clip for you.

did i just see a swiftie conversion? omg ahaha how exciting u like this album 💘

It was my least favorite from the album to now being one of my favorites. Definitely a grower 🪞🪩✨
You were right about the drums, though. I would love to hear a version with those drums.
I think folklore, evermore and TTPD are on par. She does so many diff genres so you might not love them all but the one constant is her story telling and killer lyrics
I agree. And Midjights is those with synths (the writing style is similar, it’s the production/presentation that’s different
In so here for the mature, more in depth Taylor
I would say that the 3AM tracks from Midnights and The Anthology from TTPD are the closest to Folklore and Evermore 😊
FINALLY SOME TTPD APPRECIATION 😭😭😭
I totally disagree. I would say lover, TTPD, reputation, and evermore is on the same level, but folklore and 1989 are just that.
folkore is a masterpiece. TTPD is one of her worst albums. Same genre to a point, but incomparable.
27:26 “this would be so good live”
oh you should see the folklore era of the Eras Tour
Yessss!!
My Tears Ricochet is about losing her masters and the betrayal from her former label who sold them from under her. She wasn’t allowed to buy them outright, she would get a chance to gain one album for every new one she put out, keeping her tied to the label forever and still not being able to own her work.
It’s self written as well.
Important to know that in the Taylor universe, Track 5’s are the most emotional, heartbreaking and personal stories. We all look forward to Track 5 to wreck us every time.
Looking forward to this journey 😊
Thank you for this little easter egg! I'll be looking forward to track 5 from now on!!
@@L4urynkingjust to add a little - Taylor was discovered at 15 by Scott Borchetta. He was an unknown manager, she singer. She made him. He was like her second dad. Then he wouldn’t let her buy her masters so she decided to leave him and go to UMG.
Meanwhile, all the Kimyea shit about the award show the doctored recording, her cancellation all that stuff that happened to her in her twenties was pushed by Scooter Braun, another manager POS. He repped Bieber and many other artists and he had them all clown her and push the snake narrative and her cancellation. She hates Scooter and he is a gross piece of crap.
Scott sold her masters to scooter Braun. Thats the betrayal. He was like her second father, by her side since she was 15 and he betrayed her. Thats My Tears Ricochet.
UMG is letting her and all their artists own their masters now, or at least have the right of first refusal (the first right to buy)because of her.
She figured out a loophole and has been able to re-record her masters and from then on owning them. Thats why you always see “Taylor’s version.” Its important to support her and listen to TS versions.
So she has only 2 left to re-record. She put out Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, TTPD Anthology a double album, and a ton of her rerecordings since 2020. Went on Tour, broke records.
Meanwhile, her six year relationship with a British actor unraveled and ended. She jumped right into another relationship with Matty Healy front man for the 1975. They had known each other for ten years but had bad timing. He always told her she was the one. When she went into it she was vulnerable and he love bombed her and then ghosted. Her fans hated Matty Healy. This pissed her off. Its a whole thing. Thats what TTPD is about.
She has a very storied history that she shares with fans. Watching the Miss Americana docu on netflix helps understand her better.
@@izattyu6863 to expand on this, when she re-records she also releases songs from the Vault that fit the narrative of the rest of the album so even in between albums we get new songs lol she’s putting in WORK
I’m an icu nurse who worked thru covid when she released this album and I played epiphany every single day. I would cry to work and on my way home. I was a swiftie since 2006 but this album made me a super fan ❤
First - thank you.
Second -same. I gave my self car time to cry and scream.
Been a Swiftie since 2006
Thank you for your service 🙏🏽❤
There’s a bonus track that you didn’t get to! It’s called “the lakes” and it’s the perfect bookend to this project.
Taylor has talked about how she wanted to create an album full of stories that weren’t her own, which would allow her to escape to the cabin in the woods of her mind. That song perfectly encapsulates that feeling of wanting to run away from the spotlight, just grabbing your muse and finding a place to work on your art in peace
We are in the ttpd era, let's stop incorrectly labeling folklore as fantasy and not about her life she never said that she said it was a blend of fiction and truth just like stories past word of mouth. The full details get lost in the shuffle but the essence of the story stays in tact
@@acetales148 I’m not saying ALL of the songs are fantasy, but she’s repeatedly talked about wanting to switch it up and produce something that wasn’t autobiographical.
Obviously most of the emotions behind the songs come from experience, but why are you so obsessed with dna testing every song? What does ttpd have to do with anything?
@@monicaherrera2224yes. But now we know that she was covering up her own situation with JA and MH. She has coded the MH stuff with lower case and she was talking about the unraveling of her relationship with Joe, while it was still on-going. So. Its still pretty autobiographical. She said on stage cardigan is about MH. Puts a damper on the teenage trilogy.
@@izattyu6863when did she say that? I need a link to a clip or at least which tour date did she say that on or I won’t believe you 😂 she has never explicitly named someone in a song apart from JM and Stephen
@@joshuepico75can’t post links in TH-cam comments but if you search “Taylor swift Matty Healy this is for you I love you” you’ll see. They each dedicated songs to each other from previous albums. Not necessarily saying it’s about the other but dedicating it. But Taylor says in “guilty as sin?” ‘I keep these longings locked in lowercase inside a vault’ which points to a lot of folklevermore being about Matty
Okay I love how you started out like “I’m not gonna really be focusing on the lyrics” and halfway through you were reading along like you were reading a riveting book! Loved this reaction! Hope to see more soon!
Same! I was like sure you’re not gonna deep dive into the lyrics….3,2,1.. 😂
So folklore did not have a tour since it came out in the midst of our global pandemic and is instead being played on the eras tour and you are very correct that illicit affairs live is a life changing experience
The tour is now 😂
oh to listen to folklore for the first time again 😫
Peace doesn't have a big beat-drop, or 'crash' because it represents the constant anxiety she was feeling that something would go wrong. It's very similar to The Archer in that regard.
*THIS ALBUM IS A TIMELESS MASTERPIECE!*
*PURE POETRY!*
folklore got a live acoustic treatment called "folklore: long pond studio sessions" .. It was soooooo goooood that it will melt your soul. Man.. her vocals are so easeful to float around. Track 1 to 17, the experience was so very HEAVENLY GOOD.
I’ll second this. My fave is Long Pond version of My Tears Ricochet; stripped down to piano and vocals makes it heartbreaking.
Agree. "Folklore: Long Pond Studio Sessions" is amazing to watch. (see Disney+) she explains the motivation behind many of the songs. I was smiling as you described your feelings about mad woman because she said almost exactly the same thing. Also, the duet with Bon Iver is magical--even better than the studio version.
I think a lot of people are surprised by how great Taylor's music is b/c they have only heard her radio songs, which don't begin to scratch the surface of her artistry. Since you love Folklore, I would definitely recommend Evermore, Midnights, and of course, TTPD. Great reaction, subbed! ❤
Thank you!! I am seeing evermore is the sister album to folklore, so I am excited
I always say that the songs Taylor releases compared to the album tracks are like two completely separate artists! Fortunately I love both 😊
also i literally screamed when you said you wanted a rock album because that’s my DREAM from her!!! i’m so glad that you agree!
Yes a hard rock heavy metal punk screamo ska alternative I want Metallica to do a song with her
its the secret (not so secret) swiftie dream lmao. ever since red and then the live 1989 tour performances AGH
THIS!!!!!!!!
You’re officially a swiftie. I think about a Taylor rock album bi weekly
i’ve only seen this video, but, you have such a good way of reacting like there’s no crazy over the top shit it’s just good vibes even when you don’t 100% love the song it’s still respectful
I try I try, thank you for commenting!
“Why do I feel like Taylor should do a rock album”
Let me introduce you to an album called “Speak Now” by Taylor
folklore might be her best album, but the cool thing is that whether you ask the swifties or the casual fans their fave, they'd all probably have a different answer
imo if you want something more like folkore you could do evermore next, she wrote and released it around the same time... or if you want to hear something very different, hit 1989
I’ll have a poll on my instagram this week! But I am excited for 1989, since I know many of those songs from radio play.
@L4urynking I highly suggest Evermore but it was a grower album for me. It was my least favorite for a long time until the songs kept popping up at random on my shuffle play. Now it is one of my favorites!!
U r so wrong, folklore is her worst album, the best album of hers are 1989 , lover and midnights
@@florana5961 babe no need to say she is wrong since every album of taylor is actually amazing. they just have different aproaches but lyrically [folklore) might be her best. And this is coming from a 1989/reputation/lover/midnights girlie
@@florana5961🤨
Epiphany is one of my favorites. It compares the soldiers in ww2 with the frontline workers during covid, how they both witnessed unspeakable things.
“Seven” in the eras tour is being read as poetry, while the dancers are dancing contemporary dance. It is beautiful and really hit in the feels 🥹🤍 Unfortunately it is not included in the eras tour movie.
One of my favorite songs on Folklore.
seven was in eras ?? i went in august & was watching lives consistently,, i don’t remember seven being there..??
@@bondubu It’s being read as poetry, and birds chirping / forest sounds in the background. It’s during the transition into folklore era.
Don't worry they're ALL good. But, you have to keep in mind that she's been releasing albums since she was 16 and each album is a snapshot of where she was at that particular age. You didn't miss the Folklore and Evermore concert eras because they were released during the Covid pandemic. She's has incorporated them in her present Eras Tour. You could still go and seem them performed live or go watch her Eras Tour movie.
Let's not lie pls
lmao lie about what???
@@derlis_whatever7033 "Lie" is too strong an accusation for such a benign subject don't you think? I'm not saying that Taylor's eponymous album is on par with Folklore. I consider all her albums good for her age at the time of each album's release. Her eponymous album is amazing when you consider she wrote those songs as a novice songwriter between 13 and 15 years of age. It debuted when she was 16. Her talent and potential were obvious from the start. The album enjoyed a lot of commercial success; in the United States, it peaked at number five on the Billboard 200, topped the Top Country Albums Chart for twenty-four non-consecutive weeks, and was certified four times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It was good for who she was at the time.
ALL her albums are good. The rabbit hole is deep. Have fun.
The lie is probably that you can still go see her - tickets to tour are crazy hard to get😆 (and expensive!)
This and it’s “sister” album called Evermore were her covid albums. She speaks on it in The Long Pond Studio sessions where she talks about the meaning of each song then sings it live in studio with Jack antonoff and Aaron desner who helped her write this album. So essentially she didn’t get to do a specific tour for these two albums and for her album Lover; because of the pandemic. That’s why eras tour was so exciting because these albums finally had a moment to shine :)
During Peace you asked what Taylor knows about the trenches. The Kim & Kanye controversy several years ago…most people know the VMA story. He got on stage, interrupting Taylor’s speech, saying how Beyoncé had a better video. Fast forward he makes and album, calls her up, illegally records the call, Kim edits the footage to make it sound like Taylor is good with what he’s going to say about her in a song. So there was a public he said she said but they had the doctored audio. Kim started calling her a snake, it seemed like everyone turned on Taylor. She basically went into hiding for a year. Then there’s a music video he did featuring a naked wax figure of Taylor. When Taylor came back she dropped her reputation album. Years later the full phone call was leaked and come to find out Taylor was telling the truth. I’m sure there’s more to say on the subject but that’s the shortest story I can give.
Saw the eras tour movie with my niece in theatres and was blown away by it! It encouraged me to check out her discography. I really only knew her radio hits and was suprised by how many songs I loved that I had never heard before. If you liked this album I would recommend watching the long pond studio sessions. Great reaction!
I was thinking of watching it! Not for a video but just for my personal enjoyment haha
@@L4urynkingit will definitely give you context for the story she weaved throughout the album. Her vocals sound amazing as well in the more stripped down version.
I love Jack Antonoff but there’s just something about Aaron’s production that speaks to my soul. Taylor labeled him as her musical soulmate and I believe that is very accurate.
Yes, this was my experience, too.
Also for your own enjoyment or if you do a breakdown video of Folklore, check out the Long Pond Sessions! She gives background on these songs and performd them live and stripped down in the studio. It's incredible!!! ❤
Hahaha, I read the comment and somehow missed that Long Pond was also mentioned, thought it was the Eras Tour movie. (Also, worth watching)
BON IVER & Taylor together- Evermore (title track of that album), Renegade (a collab on Big Red Machine album).
Fun fact: the instrumental from Peace was a piece of music Aaron Dessner had been sitting on and when he sent it to Taylor she wrote this masterpiece over it. The song itself is so sad considering the fact that she and Joe broke up, so in some ways the fears she expresses in it, about how crazy and difficult it would be to marry someone that famous, came true.
You musttt see taylor illicit affairs (angry version) performing in the eras tour omg it is just goosebumps 😭
I came here to say this haha. Holy hell angry version is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cardigan, August and Betty are 3 connected songs about a love triangle between three characters: Betty, August/Augustine and James.
Cardigan is from the pov of Betty, August is from the poc of Augustine and Betty is from the pov of James.
Taylor explains it in her long pond session of this album (you should check it out it gives a lot of meanings to the songs)
its still my least favorite rn, but I will re-listen with the next context, thank you!
This one will grow on you. Trust me. 😊
@@insatiatehope8842 Betty definitely grows on you.....I love it now! It wasn't my fav at first either.
Fun Fact: The names she uses for this Trilogy, Betty-Inez-James is the names of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds girls. They do have a 4th girl but no one knows her name. Ryan Reynolds joked that they are waiting for Taylor to tell them! 😂
IMO, Folklore is her very best album and My tears ricochet is one of her best songs, especially when you know what it's all about. Seeing her perform it at Eras - holy crap it was haunting, emotional, painful and just beautiful. I suggest watching All too well: the short film. Her other best song.
And if you want to see Taylor do rock, watch "We are never ever getting back together" 1989 tour. It's epic!
Folklore is her worst album, her best album is lover
@@florana5961 In your opinion of course. That's the joy of music. We can all have different likes and dislikes. No need to diss on my preference (seeing as how you replied to my comment. 🙄)
I would love to see a reaction also to All Too Well the Short Film. That song is epic as anything. the 10 minute version of course.
Folklore is probably her best. Folklore the long pond studio sessions is on Disney plus. It has a sister album called evermore which is still in the folklorian woods, but it has a distinct sound & probably her biggest storytelling album. You probably noticed some of her songs are stories, the last great American dynasty, Betty, etc. those weren’t your favorite songs, but evermore is a lot of storytelling and it is considered her next best album but many fans like it better than folklore. It’s folklore’s often overlooked younger sister. Oh, evermore has an exile sister: another duet with Bon Iver. You said you wanted one well it’s evermore.
Folklore has a deluxe track called The Lakes.
omg I listened to the lakes after filming, I loved it! I'll include it in my ranking video. and I will be checking out the LPSS on Disney +
@@L4urynking They started Evermore the morning after recording LPSS. So it's really a smooth transition between both albums sonically.
U must be crazy, folklore is her worst album, the best one is midnights
@@florana5961 it's wonderful different albums, songs, lyrics, sounds speak to different people. Folkmore and TTPD anthology are by far my favorite TS albums, yet friends love Midnights and 1989 and Folklore is much lower on their lists
@@florana5961 There's a difference between "I have a different opinion" and "Your opinion is wrong".
I love how every new song she played became the best taylor swift song she has ever heard jajaja cause YES, everything is that good.
If you love Folklore you’re in luck- it’s the only album where she discusses the meaning behind the lyrics, etc with her producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. It was made during Covid, so they are at Aaron’s Long Pond Studio in upstate New York. After discussing the song, they record it in the studio, a more stripped down version. You’ll love it! Folklore is the only album she does this for, and it really helps appreciate the songs even that much more! Would love for you to react to it!
watching it today!
Your reaction to My Tears Ricochet made me cry. I love that song and my favorite lyric of hers is “I can go anywhere I want just not home.” Ugh crushing
She has the Long Pond Studio session on Disney Plus which is a stripped down version of each song in lieu of a tour during the pandemic. It’s just her, Jack and Aaron in the studio with a feature of Justin Vernon.
that reaction to the peace instrumental was SO REAL 😭
Since you mentioned Taylor doing a rock album you need to check we are never getting back live from the 1989 world tour you’ll be blown away
I can’t believe no one has explained the teenage love triangle yet. Cardigan, august, and Betty all go together and tell a story of teenagers in a love triangle. Cardigan is written by Betty 20 years after the fact. Betty is written by James during his situationship with Augustine. Augustine wrote august after the summer she spent with James.
She’s won AOTY 4 times (the most of any other artist in history) and those were Fearless, 1989, Folklore, and Midnights. So arguably those are her “best” due to the critical acclaim but every Swiftie ranks her albums differently
Also be sure to listen to the Taylor’s Version when you get to her re-recorded albums!
It will be 5 soon!
it is one of her bests works yes... but all of her albums are SO DIFFERENT that you can not NOT like them (except if youre not into that genre of music) you have a road of pop, country rock, folk, electropop, country pop, synth pop, alternative rock , bubblegum pop, country rock... you're not ready for what it's coming and i'm loving every second of it
Taylor captured me for the 1st time ever, this past October! Took my 13 year old daughter to watch the movie.....
Left the movie and haven't had 1 day, i haven't binged Taylor!.....Guuuurrrlll...you still got evermore, reputation and freaking MIDNIGHTS! i am not a huge fan of her earlier stuff, but i embrace it with a full heart....and now, with all the healing Taylor brought forth me in these last few months, she tore that sh*t right back up with TTPD!!!
Enjoy the ride!!
signed - a 42 year old house wife
epiphany is criminally underrated. especially since this album came out in 2020 and it is about all covid victims.. so damn well captured
Her writing has evolved over the years. The depth of this and subsequent albums is remarkable.
For some of her albums it helps to know the context in which it was written, but they can also be enjoyed independently.
For TTPD, the theme is coming out of a long term relationship that died a slow death; then getting sucked into an intense, toxic rebound with someone you’d always wondered about… who knew what your (then) vulnerable heart needed to hear. He said all the right things, then ghosted you. THEN picking yourself up from THAT and trying to move on. She said the songs on TTPD can be categorized into the 5 stages of grief, but in no particular order. It’s at once cathartic and a little chaotic, reflecting how she felt while writing it.
I suggest for you to react to evermore next, its folklore sister album
Poll on my IG tomorrow, vote for evermore (I secretly want to do that next)
This album was written during the pandemic, so it never got a tour. But they're are live versions of most songs from the eras tour. Some are setlist, others are acoustic.
The long pond studio sessions is incredible.
Before listening to reputation, please react to the rep tour ready for it intro live performance.
Best way to jump into that era
Her new album is even more beautiful in song writing imo.
specially the 2nd side of the album
I definitely concur! Imo, her songwriting is unmatched, more especially on TTPD. When she puts her pen to paper, she goes deep. ❤
Yes, her newest album is great...but it is heavy, and requires repeated listens. It both helps knowing her relationship history...but also confuses, because fans were expecting it to be about a specific ex but it's about multiple and non-romantic relationships.
I love her new album especially the 2am version but folklore/evermore is the best imo
@@MSerrada1yes I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone who just got into taylor it's too much to process and took me 3 days to finally get it
your knee jerk reaction to Peace was amazing. you really got it the first time! that song needed to grow on me, but it's top 5 of my favorite TS songs. I think I read that she recorded the vocals for that song in one long take and I just love how her voice sounded in it.
one take???? its easily top 3 on the album for me
Important to know taylor swift writes all her songs. Yes she has editors and some people who help her, but she does it all and is the lead on all her projects
YES, respect for epiphany! i think a lot of reactors don't really know what to say when they get to it so they just say a couple short things before moving on but that one makes me cry every damn time at the "hold your hand through plastic now" part
I don't know how I came across this video, but I'm so glad that I did! As a massive Swiftie, I love seeing people experiencing Taylor for the first time!
One of the things that is the most consistent about Taylor's albums is her song writing. It's her biggest strength as an artist and it will always come through. It's the sound that's going to vary from album to album. If you like Folklore, the closest sound 'match' would be Evermore. Midnights is more of a Synth-Pop and TTPD is a cross between Folklore and Midnights. Lover and 1989 are the most 'generic' sounding pop records. Reputation is a pop-rock moment and Red is country-pop (don't let that throw you off though, Red has some of the best written songs in Taylor's career.) Speak Now is interesting because she wrote the entire thing herself at like age 19, which is crazy. Fearless and the self-titled are the first ones that she ever put out and are VERY country... so not for everyone, but they are what put her on the map early in her career, so if you go down the rabbit hole, they would be worth at least giving a once over.
Oh also like some other commenters have already said, since Taylor writes her own music, it really does showcase her age and the issues that she goes though at different time periods of her life. The contents of Folklore and Midnights are extremely different than the contents of Fearless and Debut. Just something to keep in mind if you check out the older albums. They're not bad by any means, but they were written for kids, by a kid. :P
Hello, welcome!! im glad you found my page. also thank you for the insight on her albums. I grew up hearing og Taylor, she has come a long way from those earlier singles for sure.
I would say reputations leans more R&B than rock. For me Speak Now has more rock elements
Shut up, nobody likes folklore and evermore
based on your reactions to folklore i think you will really like evermore and midnights
One thing you should know before going into Taylor swift's music. you should KNOW she is a millennial cat lady. she lovessss to write sad lyrics with the most silly pop sounds or silly lyrics with serious sounds.
in folklore you can see she has serious lyrics with serious mature sounds. which is why a lot of people like this album. Besides that, she never makes the same album twice. Each album has a distinct sound. except her latest album TTPD, which is a combination of all her Eras.
But she has always has been an amazing lyricist. So please remember this and go into her music with an open heart.
I'm very open and excited to be let into this world
This IS one of her best albums. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that ALL of her albums are great. She is freaking phenomenal. You are going to have a great time discovering her discography and going down the TS rabbit hole.
I live for the "this is my fave TS song" after each song. This album is my safe space fr
What other people have said: Long Pond Sessions, Evermore, 1989, reputation, Midnights, TTPD, Speak Now. I guess prety much all of them.
Oh, and there was no tour for Folklore. It was written in lockdown, as well as Evermore, which came just a few months later (both surprise albums with no marketig buildup). She does sets for both in the Eras tour though, which you are not too late for. There's another North America leg scheduled if you've got a couple thousand bucks laying around you don't need. Either way, I strongly encourage you to look for live performances online, of reputation tour, Tiny Desk, Live in Paris (City of Lover) and, of course, the Eras Tour, and the new album, which for me gets better with every listen.
Btw, dont feel bad about sleeping on her writing. Im 62, never gave her a second thought til last year. Now I'm all in. She's a master of her craft and a genius songwriter.
wait- I don't see any northeast dates for the tour.. also TAYLOR DID A TINY DESK???
@@L4urynkingright now all thats left is Miami, NoLa and Annapolis. Then Canada. BUT. We already have clues that this next leg of Eras will add TTPD and many suspect that new dates in 2025 are coming. Listen to the deluxe versions! Because The Lakes is AMAZING
It’s always so fun watching non-swifties actually sit down and listen to Taylor. She has a knack for releasing like one or two more simple, upbeat bubblegum pop songs on most albums that are the fun dancey lead singles, but in reality she’s 1000% an album artist. Almost all of her albums are cohesive bodies of work that connect around a central idea, theme, time period and that makes every song a little better as you listen and get more of the story. It’s what makes it frustrating when people say they don’t like Taylor, but all they’ve heard of her music is Shake It Off, Me!, and Karma on the radio. Because she usually intends those to be kinda corny fun you can just dance to, they’re not meant to be taken super serious as an example of her musical abilities. I’m a die-hard swiftie and those are usually my least favorite on each album haha. They’re fun at a concert or when you’re dancing at a bar, but those songs aren’t what make me such a big fan of hers
The songs Betty, August and Cardigan are songs about a love triangle and all the songs are connected
41:32 haahha yess, the swifties have been asking for a rock album for yearsss (Speak now and Red are more rock-ish)
Given how much you like Bon Iver and Exile, you should definitely check out the Long Pond Studio Session version of that track. Their vocals are even more amazing. And I agree that My Tears Ricochet is just stunningly good songwriting, from lyrics, production, performance...
just found your channel, trying not to binge too quick cause i’m enjoying them and don’t want them to end😭
update i subscribed on patreon so no worries of running out of content
folklore never got a tour but it is in the eras tour setlist! she’s coming to the US in october / nov but there’s rumors that she’s adding more dates for 2025!!
i love seeing epiphany love. it's my favorite song on the album.
it tells a story of her grandfather in wwII in the first verse, i feel like it truly embodies the despair and fear war has especially with all the losses of people. the second verse is about the pandemic.
the fear of losing someone is something that's truly terrifying and epiphany makes me cry but it is also kinda comforting. i relate to this song sm🥲
The reason you don't hear about the best Taylor Swift songs is, unfortunately, Taylor has a tendency to pick some pretty crappy singles... It's why nowadays she's picking one, waiting for the first streaming numbers to come in and then making a video for one of the songs that does really well on streaming and then releasing that as a single.
reputation tour live don't blame me was one of the first I look at as a recent fan. try that. She is a performer and a poet
her discography is insanely diverse sonically, but if you're into folklore, then Evermore and TTPD should be up your alley! for pure country go for Fearless, for pure pop go for 1989 and for more "experimental" pop go for Reputation. Speak Now for country/rock and Red for... everything 😅. she has an album for every mood and taste lol
debut is country, i remember when fearless came out people were saying it's not really country 😭
@@cchase1282 I stand corrected! country pop it is
This is a perfect write-up and recommendation.
@@mydys717 aw thanks!
Watching people slowly convert into Swifties is my new past-time . . . Welcome to the club Lauryn!!!
This is my favorite album of Taylor ever! It’s refreshing to see someone appreciate this album as much as you did and FOR THE FIRST TIME??? I LIKE U
so... folklore is probably her most critically acclaimed seriously artistic in this kind of indie vibe album, most would likely say that = her best album, objectively. it could be seen as going down from here, but the reason most people recommend starting with it is because I think it shows her lyrical prowess and artistry in a pretty undeniable way and requires the least context. but the thing about taylor is that each album is SO different, she constantly evolves and never does the same exact sound twice. it sounds like swiftie justification lol but while, in a way you have started at the top, with context I think you'll appreciate and understand each album as a best in its own way.
Was thrilled to see Epiphany get some love on your reaction!! One of the quiet unsung heros of the Folklore album.
We might need to see your Eras Tour reaction also. 🥹
So excited to see you go on a journey discovering her music! ❤ I can’t wait to see you react to her other albums!
Love how calm and ASMRy this video is! Folklore definitely lends itself to that vibe.
Two songs in, subscribed. You have great vibes
Also yess Epiphany apreciation!!! I cried the first time i heard it and i cant believe some dislike it
THAT'S THE ONLY APPROPRIATE REACTION TO PEACE
The Folklore era on eras tour is absolutely stunning if you wanted to see some of the album performed live.
Lauryn...your potential to be the greatesr Swiftie of all time is very, very possible. We have been begging Taylor for a rock album for years. The songs you gravitate to are the same ones that most of us like, too. There are two other albums with this folky vibe, Evermore and TTPD-The Anthology. All of her albums are connected and the stories overlap. Her pen game is crazy. She raps really good, too. I hope you continue this journey because I cant wait to see your heart open for Taylor. Her previous record label sold her entire discography to a guy Taylor did not like so she is rerecording all of her previous albums. Is Folklore her best album? You have to be the judge of that. Much love to you and your journey. As a swiftie, i love your willingness to give Taylor a chance. Thank you Lauren. Enjoy the ride!
loved your reaction. i subscribed so i watch your descent into the taylor universe. there are characters, themes, colors, etc that cross albums and songs. no matter what album you pick the pen game is fire, the music is good, and they are all different!
Give yourself the gift of watching the Long Pond Studio Session videos, they are everything.
I loved your reaction, and welcome to the hype, I'm also a new fan (a new "swiftie over 50"). I only knew her early radio stuff, I've been blown away by her lyricism, just brilliant!
Welcome and don't worry you've still got Evermore, Midnights and Tortured Poets Department! Evermore is the most similar when it comes to sound and lyrics. Midnights is on the same master-level (another collab w. Bon Iver!) but has a more dynamic sound. TTPD is amazing. After all that, you'll probably find a new appreciation for her older more mainstream albums.
Your energy is so vibrant! Truly love this and you 💙💙
Agreed
We have ourselves another Folklore/Evermore stan ladies and gentlebeeches, welcome to the forest of lost boys, witches, lost loves and daydreams ❤
Love your reaction!!! Sad that we don't see the lakes reaction but it's okayy ☺☺ thx for giving folklore a chance!!
This is me trying is so deep. Seven makes me cry every time. Loved watching this!
i highly recommend watching the long pond sessions in your own time if you ever want to hear these songs broken apart by taylor herself, plus the long pond session versions of the songs are almost always so much better!
I’m only at track 5 and loving how each song was new favourite! I find some songs you don’t like immediately if you come back to them or look up the story they will turn into favourites until you find the next song!
Favorite reaction video.
I am 51, liked a few TS songs here and there over the years, but TTPD album cracked me wide open. It’s been a flood of feelings listening to these albums, especially folklore. Really beautiful.
My Tears Ricochet is my favorite. The Long Pond Sessions version has a superior outro "look at all of my tears, becoming all of your tears, look at all of my tears"
Loving your reaction to this album! You instantly loved my favorites, so I'm eager to explore your channel to find new music through songs and albums you love
Oh I am so down for a lyric breakdown!
I love the “what is she talking about?!” on seven.
Because Swiftie or non Swiftie, we can relate on that first listen reaction for any song…
the eras tour movie reaction !!!! And the My tears ricochet performance 🔥🔥💯
This reaction is so refreshing 😢
omg thank you, and welcome
you HAVE to listen to reputation next!! in my opinion, it's her best album (my favorite) and it's sooo good!!
This is my second video of yours I have seen. But looking at your eyes, I just want to give you a hug.
Obviously, it's hit your heartstrings.
Tapped that personal ache well.
Sending you some Auntie love. 🫶❤
Great to see your reaction. If you want to do the lyric breakdown of this, then the Long Pong sessions, would be awesome, as that shows Taylor speaking with her producers about the inspirations for the songs.
my personal top 5 taylor albums
1. Evermore
2. Fearless TV
3. Folklore
4. 1989 TV
5. Midnights
I really enjoyed watching your reaction! I'm a new subscriber, excited to see you fall further down the Taylor Swift rabbit hole. If you appreciate her lyricism on Folklore, you'll love her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department, especially the latter half (the Anthology Tracks). The lyricism, melodies, and vocals are very Folklore reminiscent, and Evermore, which is Folklore's sister album.
Also, you're not alone in wanting Taylor to do a rock album! If you want to hear her slay some rock vocals and play electric guitar, check out the live performance of her song We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together from the 1989 tour. :)
I'm very nervous about listening to TTPD, I'm seeing mixed reviews.. BUT I will be listening and forming my own opinion :)
@@L4urynking I can definitely understand that! If you like Folklore, I really think the latter half of the album will be your speed for sure. The first half grew on me after a few listens and now I love it. It's an album that should be absorbed over time, I think a lot of folks are finding that they like it more on the second or third listen. :) But the Anthology tracks had me right away.
Sadly there was no tours for folklore, evermore and midnights and that’s why she made the eras tour so that she could do a concert for all her albums at once! (Except for debut 😭)
