    My thoughts on this album is no way an attack on Taylor, or her artistry. I liked some, and disliked some of this record. This is simply my opinion, I tried to keep it as respectful as possible during my TS journey, I would hope you will do the same. Just here for the music man. Enjoy. I feel like this is normal no one expected you to walk into an album and like every single song, some of them you love, some grow on you and some just don't (the tour and the music videos also help)

    You’re not disrespecting… you’re also not wrong. This is one of the reasons I am excited for Taylor’s Version of this album. She was still contracted with Big Machine during this time and they wanted her to always be “proper, pretty and sweet”. This is the last album she made with them.

    • @lonbub6832
      @lonbub6832 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

      Sure! I think they definitely held her back, in many aspects of her performance. This is also the first album where she used “fowl” language, though the usage was light as opposed to her newer albums. I think she touches upon it in later works, like “But Daddy, I love Him”, where she speaks to the way other people perceive her behaviors, or how they feel they have a say in her life and what she chooses for herself, at all.
      As a fan, I enjoy her evolution as a person and how it impacts her art and writing. She’s obviously very self aware, which might not always be a great thing, because we as listeners wouldn’t want that to hold her back, but the awareness also impacts the art. And that, more often, in her case, increases her abilities. I think that’s part of what projects her forward. The vault tracks on Reputation will be some of her best writing, as she was so alone in that moment (partly by choice). All she had were her thoughts and her feeling were intense, I imagine.

      I feel like LWYMMD, in majority, is a "you had to be there" song. I personally like the song on its own, but the lore behind it, the music video being the first thing Taylor had put out in years, and the fact that it was Taylor fighting back in a way we hadn't see before made the song super iconic.
      I also think that radio overplayed the song and that helped nothing.

    • @EmilyExcitedlyAnalyzes
      @EmilyExcitedlyAnalyzes 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      When I first heard it, it's tainted by a personal trauma in my life where my friend committed the most violent act against someone, murder, and blamed them for causing them to do this to them and it's just. This song is forever tied to that moment in my life even though I've the years I've started to soften on finding it a little more catchy and fun. It's still not ever gonna be a song I think really is a great sentiment to be spreading 😅 -- I like angry Taylor and fighting back Taylor but this particular song's lyrics are ones I kinda just never will fully be behind.
      It's SO interesting to see different people's reactions to each song though for sure!!

    It's okay to not like every song on an album, don't worry about it, even swifties don't like every song she has made! But I really appreciate that you like Dancing with our hands tied because that's my favorite from this album and also Dress (and Don't blame me which is amazing when she sings it live). I don't have the feeling that you dislike the album because you liked more songs than I thought. Reputation isn't her best work but this era has brought a lot for Taylor (and her fans) because of the Kanye and Kim situation, she reclamed her name and reputation. Her comeback was truly amazing. Maybe Reputation will be a grower for you (or not and it's not a big deal!). I'm going to bet on which songs you will like or dislike for your next TS reaction! If you haven’t seen the Look What You Made Me Do music video it is a MUST, probably her most insane video to date and LWYMMD was the first single from the album and this album was kind of a surprise drop, so we went from 1989, to her disappearing and the world hating her and fans were wondering if she would ever come back, to a snake video with no sound or caption, and then a post that said “First Single Out Tomorrow Night” then that Sunday she debuted the video at the VMAs.

    I actually enjoyed this reaction ALOT and I’m a full blown Swiftie who gets her dopamine from people reacting to Taylor. This was genuine and honest and extremely funny. You were underwhelmed by some of them sure but that made it all the more enjoyable when one of the tracks hit you. Alot of Taylor’s later albums are no skip records so I get why this disappointed you but if you look back you’ll see you liked at least half of it so that’s still a win I think. BTW the Rep Tour Film and the Rep Eras Tour performances are absolute fire and make the album all the more enjoyable imo.

But I can tell you're genuine and taking a real interest in her art and are able to be critical/respectful when there's a song you don't like, but also praise the music that you do. To fully understand the impact and climate of this record, one has to take into account that the last album was 1989, which was just classic magic pop supreme, it was synths and colors, and fun and coming of age. She was on top of the world. This was a resurrection, after disappearing for so long. This was such a shock, a shattering almost of everyone’s idea of what a Taylor Swift album is. And on first listen it’s like a punch to the gut. And the deeper you get on it, the more you realize just how painfully vulnerable it really is. And you realize it’s still Taylor, under all that posturing.
    And then you listen again and you realize that these are emotions you are very familiar with, and she did it again, put honest words on very dark emotions that you felt at one point or another.
    Reputation is realizing we’ve graduated from fairy tales, cute love, coming of age, independence, breakups, to very real very relatable emotions of betrayal, fear of both being enough, insecurity, loss of reputation. Canon events for every woman. Taylor grew up finally and it was glorious.

    I hear you on the stuff you said during King of my heart. In her defense, she was extremely raw and very distrusting of most people at that point. For her to come back at all was a feat alone. I think she needed to hitch her wagon to someone that she was comfortable with and that made her feel safe and understood, and Jack was that for her. I think rep TV might actually have some of the collabs you mentioned (hopefully)

    we left the swiftie fandom in 2016/2017 during the whole reputation era but we came back during 2022 but reputation was a shocker for us. we loved it immediately but it was certain song we could relate to because of the situation of our friendships and relationship at the time. it felt like it explained everything for us in an intimate moment, we start sobbing sometimes because of these songs like folkmore (folklore + evermore). She’s just like me 😭😭😭😭 also your reaction is very sweet and it’s okay to not like songs, we don’t like certain songs.
