Glad you are having good luck with the Saito, I sent mine brand new to Ray English and had the true modification to the intake and carb done. Ray extends the tubes in the plenum and opens the carb up so it can breath better. I was running 15 : 1 Cool Power. on the third flight the engine quit and had to belly land. Just hangar rash to the P47 but upon inspection the master rod and #2 cylinder rod broke where the wrist pin connects them, the engine is two months old, I sent it to Horizon and they said since the Saito had been modified they would not fix it. So mine is out of commission at the moment.
So it broke after the Ray English conrversion ??? Like i said these were never ment to be gassers out of the box. They took a nitro unit and went gas. Hope my new 90cc Radial is all figured out lol. We will see how the bird does this year with the 60cc, Hate the thought of a 1200.00 paperweight.
d lloyd - OK, so it broke after you had it converted into a glow engine? Am I understanding that right? I was right on the edge of buying one of these, but once I read this post of yours, I am now holding off again. BUT, if it broke because it was converted, then maybe I have nothing to worry about. knockoffs says they were never meant to be gas engines, yet yours broke after being converted (back) to glow!! Maybe they were meant to be gas engines after all, no?
Great video! Many thanks! I am breaking in my FG 60 very rich and cylinder 3 does not fire. Any problem? Did you have to rotate the engine during break in?
Great video! Can you please tell me the distance from the back on the Keleo ring to the prop thrust plate? I’d like to use your setup in my N28 but its gonna be a tight fit.. I may have to rest the ring right on the firewall. Much appreciated!
Well I bought one, and the Top Flite P47 Tarheel Hal plane. Have you mounted it on the firewall yet? My throttle linkage binds because the arm is so close to the firewall. Have to design something to let the linkage actually travel into the firewall a bit. What did you do to get around that?
+Tim S Plane is just about done, Just have to complete my air system. Then engine will be next, really don't think i will have much problems, I did a trial fit. But we will see. I will be posting Build pic's as soon as the motor is on. Good luck with yours.
Yes right after the up date modification it broke on it's third flight, my field is in Colorado at 5000 ft, the Saito didn't fly my P47 with as much authority as it does yours, I know you said your field is at 150 ft. Are you putting the FG90R3 in a Hangar 9 Corsair? I have one of them with a EME 70CC twin, it flys like some one stole it
The FG90R3 is Going in the Top RC Zero. won't be done for this summer though. To many other projects to button up. My Friend has the EME 70cc. He really likes it. It too is in the Top RC Zero.
Cool,,,,,,,,,,,now I'm glad I made a run-in stand myself, rather than have in on the airplane that whole time. If you had it to do all over again,,,,,,,,do you think it really needs that much run in time before you put it on a warbird, that you can't idle around with? :-) Did you have Ray do his thing with your engine too?
Could of gotten away with a Gallon i'm sure. But after many people on the net were having a lot of issues with this motor. Im glad i let it seat in like i did. No Ray English mod, But i Still may send it to him yet. Not Sure. Use lots of oil. Even 15 to one, It wont hurt these motors. My feeling is that it was a Nitro formatted motor, Converted to gas. They always needed had lots of lube in the 10 and 15 percent Stuff. Not enough oil and you will seize up this motor, Bet on it. Also keep it cool on the cylinders. Baffles will help a lot. Im just setting up my new FG 90cc Saito Radial on the stand for breakin. A few more weeks before i can get it outside. Watch for the video.
i can look an listen to this all day long ......... mann .. i love the sound of these engines
What a beauty! love the sound. Seems well tuned and ready to go in a nice cowl.

hello - how can I tell if the motor has the mods? any ideas? buying this spring. thanks!

next time i remove the cowl i will try and post the distance. Good luck with your build
Any updates? Still running good? Happy with it?
Nice! Engine sounds almost like a full size radial.

Hi Did you stay with the 16:1 mix after the break in?
Yes, But i may go 15:1 this season. Then engine will thank you.
nice
You ran two gallons through that engine, while on the run- in stand? How many hours did that take? :-)
I lost count after 6 hours LOL, Did it over a long weekend. I have great neighbors.
