    The main reason I think they don't offer dine on demand is because the 380 has so many business class seats. Dine on demand would require more galley space per passenger and would likely knock out a row or two of seats and while a premium product I usually find Emirates business class to be very reasonably priced (route dependent) and often has better miles upgrade availability than on other carriers so it's a trade off I'm happy to make.

    While it's true that there's no in-seat dine on demand on EK when flying J, you can go to the bar and order from a slightly different (albeit delicious) set of choices that are still full sized portions. I noticed this when I flew in 2019.

  • @101watever101
    @101watever101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Dan, well done with the video. As someone who has flown EK for 13 years, I'd tend to agree with your assessment of the J product being akin to commoditization of business class, mostly due to the mass number of premium class passengers they (used to) fly everyday. Nevertheless, they still do a fantastic job of delivering a premium product with such amenities like their lounges, chauffeur pickup/drop-off, and great food and wine selection.
    I'd also agree on your notion of the 777 J class being pretty poor for today's standard. It is worth pointing out though that bar a few exceptions, the 777 (pre-covid) was mostly used on medium and shorter haul sectors, where the J product was adequate for these shorter sector lengths. The 380 was also prioritized for premium markets where product mattered. Even in 2018/19, EK was ambitious enough to start new frequencies to JFK, SYD, and LAX with 380 service, totally skipping an incremental 777 addition, simply because product mattered as much as it did.

    "Meeting rich people and pretending to fit it" this was funny to hear as it is so true. I would fly Zurich to LAX biz class on A380 on regular basis for 2 years and met a lot of wealthy / famous individuals (not mutually exclusive lol). The common experience when meeting your fellow passengers is their attempt to determine if you are someone powerful/ultra-wealthy and connected who is worth knowing. Its hilarious the disparity in response when I communicate "Im a nobody just lucky to get this seat!" profile vs a well connected biz mogul in tech.

    1. Objective: it details pros and cons for each option. In this case the comparison between EK and QR was analyzed based on detailed aspects.
    2. Transparency: I like the way Dan always open on how to get there without any hidden information especially on who pays the fare hence making the judgement more credible.

    Interesting as always. I've always thought that Emirates'A380 business class (and also economy are among the best options in the skies. AsI spenta lot of time in Dubai and as a passenger on Emirates, I did a full series about Emirates and Dubai, including the biggest report on the Emirates lounges on TH-cam (I love the lounges - they're the best!) . Just 2 things to correct: the First Class Lounge in concourse A isn't on top as you said. It's above the main level and below the Business Class Lounge. And: Emirates DO offer amenity kits. I don't know how you came to that statement. They even offer better ones than Qatar in my opinion (no pj's though). But they only offer them on flights longer than 7 or 8 hours (so not on Frankfurt-Dubai in daytime) and on night flights (however not the ones starting at 3am!). On a night flight Frankfurt-Dubai you get an amenity kit, and they're Bulgari branded.
    Would be fantastic to meet you someone on a plane or at an airport - but you know that anyway 😊

    • @NonstopDan
      @NonstopDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

TBH, once I took a night flight only to get one of those damn (and damn nice) amenity kits! 😂 they're such a nice gift to other airline freaks like me too...!

    Dan I fly business london to New Zealand on a regular basis. I choose Emirates because of the 380 in my view it's the only aircraft for long distances. The Emirates configuration is excellent with only premium seats upstairs and that lovely bar and lounge. The crew are excellent but meal service can be hit and miss and I was not over impressed on my last trip 2 years ago. Emirates gives premium passengers door to door chauffeur service at each end which is a huge bonus. Their amenity kits must be one of the best and are great to give as gifts. I have to disagree with you about the lounge at Dubai. Most of their flights transit in the early hours of the morning and the lounge is packed to the rafters. On my last trip I could not find a seat and the queues for food ridiculous. To use the lounge showers you have to reserve and the wait can be 45 minutes. Finally as you have stated the 380 experience is one of the best the 777 experience one of the worst. I only flew once in business on their 777 and never again, poor seat and inflight service

    For me, things like the chauffeur pickup, remove the stress prior to flying. The 380 is a terrific product, but I get perplexed when I have to use the poor business class offering on their 777s. Their lounges are also excellent.

    I’ve been lucky enough to travel top deck Emirates A380 business class several times, and it really is an amazing experience! I think the bar adds the unique dimension, as it’s a great place to spend time chatting to random people and cabin crew. Everyone is so friendly and after a couple of hours the party really kicks in, which can be a problem for those seated close by if they want to sleep! As you say, it’s a fun atmosphere compared to the serene sophistication of Qatar business class. The level of personal attention you get on Qatar is almost embarrassing, but a fantastic pampered experience.😀👍🏻

Yes, their onboard radio, which is the default station when you connect your headphones is HIGHLY addictive, filled with interesting tidbits about the Emirates and, yes, suspiciously propagandistic. Thanks Dan, great review. We have just been lucky enough to fly London-Dubai return in Emirates newest version A380 in Business: middle seats on the way out and windows on the way back. First time with Emirates and really good in all respects. Your report does them justice: efficient; good food, exceptional wines; very comfortable; and we had really friendly and good crews. Qsuite service is more personalized and dine on demand is a real plus; but while you don't get the door, I think the Emirates seat is actually more comfortable. I have a soft spot for Emirates as it was the first Airline I flew regularly and achieved my first high tier Frequent Flyers membership on. However, I sadly cannot agree with a few things you mentioned. Some are opinions, which I simply have to respect, but other things you mentioned are factually simply incorrect.
    First of all, the lounges only span the entire length of the terminal in Concourse A (not to mention that the First Class lounge is between the main terminal and the Business Class lounge unlike what your diagram suggests). Furthermore, I can assure you that the Concourse B Business Class lounge fills up and there is hardly any seating available during the peak hours (especially pre-covid). Finally, you mentioned that you can board from the lounge. This is true for every gate in Concourse A, but in Concourse B I believe only 6-7 gates have this feature while the majority don't. Concourse C doesn't have this feature at all. I think it is important to mention that there are multiple lounges in Dubai and not all have the features you listed.
    About the design on the Aircraft everyone will have their own opinion, I am personally not a fan. However, it is a shame you haven't been able to experience their revamped colour scheme as I feel it is a lot nicer. In regards to the cabin crew, my experience has been really hit and miss. Pretty much a coin flip if you're going to have a good or bad crew.
    I love Emirates and will always have that soft spot for them, but I made the switch to Qatar Airways 2 years ago. I just recently flew Emirates from Frankfurt to Dubai (return) in May and it just confirmed again my opinion to stick with Qatar.

    Realize you're flying this during COVID. I've been in the Dubai lounge pre-COVID when it was incredibly packed, zero seating and the food wasn't that great or plentiful. Their lounge and check-in at LAX is also pretty standard, nothing awe-inspiring when comparing it to a few other providers. While I think Emirates offers a great product (nice bar in the air, excellent catering on-board, chauffeur pick-up, polite staff), the seats were not as comfortable or private as Qatar, the 777s are more ubiquitous, and I had an extremely poor customer service recently that soured me on the airline completely. I understand the limitations of reviewing during COVID, but I'd wait until travel normalizes again so you can compare the two.

      Many of the differences I mentioned with QR are only relevant because of the pandemic! As I mention in the end, Qatar would normally be my choice 100% of the time if it weren’t for the changes they have made…

      Started on A380 business, our first business flight which was great. Changed at Dubai and Flew on 777 to India. Even though business class, missed the bar and getting to stretch my legs so would not use again.

    I agree with you 100% on the EK A380 review. Crews on Emirates are "volatile". If you catch a great crew, your A380 Business experience is the best in the world ( that Emirates First is unmatched, is understood, I believe). I would love to see you review the 777 flights on Emirates Business and especially the flights to and from Stockholm, because I've been on rather old planes and average crews during the last 2 years....

    Hi Dan, nice video. I've been watching your channel for a while now and always wondered why you didn't have Emirates business class in review, since this configuration of business class on the A380 has been around for quite some time. I first flew it from New York to Melbourne via Dubai in 2013 (return). I agree with all that you said...the meals on demand is really something they should consider, like you say.
    I'm happy so happy to see that the configuration and seats look as fresh as when the service was launched. I guess it shows that quality materials and proper maintenance is the way to go! Thanks for a nice peak into this traveling world again. I'm living in Australia now and we're still in Lockdown!

    Great video. But here is the thing with Emirates Business Class on the A380... the cabin literally contains some of the best and some of the worst seats you can find in business class. The particular seat Dan chose for this flight just happens to be one of the best - a window seat, with the seat positioned nearest to the window (alternate window seats are "staggered" so that in one row the seat is near the window with the console etc between you and the aisle - but the next row is switched so that the seat is near the aisle and the console etc is by the window). A window seat which has the seat positioned nearest the window is BY FAR the best seat in this cabin. Private and spacious feeling - it almost feels like a proper "suite". The other window seat is also good too but not as private feeling since your seat is right by the aisle and there is a distance between you and the window making it harder to get a good view out. When it comes to the centre seats in this cabin however - they are terrible. If you happen to find yourself in one of the centre seats, I can honestly say these are some of the worst seat options in any business class cabin. They feel cramped and claustrophobic with no privacy especially if you are in row with the seat nearest the aisle. Even the footwells appear smaller in these seats - I even preferred BA club world to these centre seats on Emirates. So there you go - get a window seat and it will be great - one of the best! Get a centre seat and its far from great.

    Out of Newcastle (NCL) to Dubai (DXB) the 777 is still used and in general I do not believe it is worth the extra money unless I really feel the need. However, from DXB to Bangkok (BKK) I have often used the A380's Business Class. Amenity kits are issued (and always were) & are naturally based on gender. (Since I now have a few I will sometimes ask for the female variant to gift to women I know. I fly long haul at least 4 times a year pre-covid so I had amassed a few before I offloaded these to friends.)
    One weird thing about Business Class on the A380 DXB to BKK is the fact that the First Class which was to the fore of Business is now Economy Class. Therefore, the perk of disembarking prior to Economy does not happen. Also, the Aircrew often have to remove passengers from Economy trying to sleep/drink in Business. One reason I use Business Class flying into BKK is to avoid the regular immigration queue because on presentation of the Business Ticket Stub you are able to use the VIP Access. 10 minutes as opposed to 2.5 Hours in my worst example.

    You're right when you mention others thinking EK makes its C product more of an assembly line. Adding insult to injury is the prospect that EK does not include lounge access to those who purchased deeply discounted C tickets. I find it weird considering that passengers taking euro C class flights on many other carriers, which is a far more inferior hard product do get lounge access.

  • @Rotuma1260

    It seems that none of this is new. Emirates' 777s business cabin arrangement has always lagged behind almost all other carriers. Even AA's 767s and 777s have all aisle access in business class. Most East Asian carriers are the same. Emirates' A380s have long had the 1-2-1 arrangement. Has anything changed? It doesn't seem so. Many of us passengers avoid Emirates if the flight will be on a 777, but will gladly book with them for the A380. Hopefully Emirates doesn't screw up their 777x aircraft.

    • @kelvw76
      @kelvw76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely agree with you on this, 777 business class is old and tired. I try to avoid it when i could but even some of the A380 business cabins are starting to show its age with wear and tear. Would be interesting to see what's installed on their 777x and 787-9 in the future.

    It will be nice when the virus goes away & air travel can get back to normal again
    I haven’t flown in 4 yrs & I miss it!

    Emirates looks like a real classy airline
    Beautiful interior & nice food etc!
    Take care & see you on the next flight!

    Thanks a lot Dan for this great video ! I really like your channel a lot, because you are so honest, and when you fly Business (or even First) class, you take nothing for granted, and enjoy "small things".
    Myself, when I fly long distance and want to treat myself to Business class, Emirates 380's is my first choice (Business class in EK's 777 is not worth the money in my opinion). I always choose the small back cabin, as its so much more intimate. As I sleep badly, other ways of keeping me busy are really important. ICE is great, with a huge choice of movies and shows (like you, I like it when there is a whole serie of a show like the Big Bang Theory, instead of just one), which is the case on EK. The other big plus for me is the bar - it feels so very very decadent to go there, to feel like you are rich (which I'm not), to talk to other pax and to the crew and to pass some time. Also I really like that the crew is so multinational. And boarding directly from the lounge by elevator to plane is pretty amazing.
    About the things you didnt like so much:
    There is an amenity kit on EK, or at least on overnight flights, or flights over 6-7 hours. Its golden, so pretty posh, and I like it (its also great to give away as a present). It has everything inside, including mouthwash and several items from Bulgari.
    Dubai Airport is indeed huge, extremely crowded, and the fast tracking for business class pax is very much non existent :-(. That should definitely be improved by Emirates as other airlines do this so much better. Other than that, I like Dubai airport for being so multinational (which means - great people watching).

    The Emirates 777 out of London Stansted is pretty good in business class but still has the hated 3 abreast layout. The quality of the flight can vary considerably depending on the equipment. Etihads dreamliner is excellent, its 777 dire. Qatar have the best food (in any class IMHO) Emirates the best IFE. I use all three. QSuites are still king. 👍
