My TH-cam friends, this is the first video on my channel to ever reach, and surpass, 100,000 views. My gratitude is immeasurable. Thank you, to all of you, and welcome to all of the new people joining this community, as well as my community on Twitch. I'm excited to continue to share my videos, food adventures, and creative endeavors with you all. 😎

Atticus, I was on set for a press event for Episode 200 a few years ago, and I just wanted to thank you again for being so kind that day. I remember talking to you about the possibility of you directing. The entire cast was very welcoming to us as press which I appreciated and it was such a treat seeing the Heck house.
I actually live very close to the WB Ranch and it breaks my heart to see that so many of those buildings are being torn down. It's history...! Glad there will at least be sound stages, but it won't be the same.

Hey Atticus! This is truly touching and I'm glad you're able to share your story with us all. My family of 4 have watched the middle since it first aired. Friends and family always compared my brother Jason to your character Brick! Everything from looks to personality it was almost like looking in a mirror. If you need a stunt double let me know!😅
Also just followed on twitch. Keep up the YT grind!

The Middle is one of the most relatable shows I’ve ever watched. Each character feels so relatable to real life people in my life. Just a hard working, honest middle class family. The perfect formula for a hit show. Thanks for all the laughter and joy you’ve brought to the lives of many. You guys represented a segment of the country that isn’t glamorous, and isn’t often the subject of shows, but is real and represents the lives of a forgotten region of the country, between NY and LA. Thank you.

Hello from N California! What a treat for this video to randomly pop up on my YT home page today. I watched (and loved) The Middle for the first two or three seasons until my tv broke. Never did replace the tv, but with streaming available now, I just discovered The Middle is on Peacock and added it to my watchlist.
Regarding travel, I am 56 years old and have been to 53 countries and 32 US states so far. Most of that was done in the last 20 years as a solo mobility disabled woman. In May, I'll travel to my favorite countries Australia (6th time) and New Zealand (3rd time) and am striving to tick two new countries off my list in the fall, Portugal and Morocco. Yosemite and the Grand Canyon are favorite parks because I can get to them via Amtrak and buses. My favorite US cities are San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Washington DC.
Wishing you all the best, Atticus. I'll hit the subscribe button as soon as I finish typing this comment!

Hi Atticus!! I cannot believe this video popped up on my feed so unexpectedly, but I needed it! I worked on The Middle as your stunt double for a little while back in… I want to say 2016 or 17. I was only there for a little while, but I had so much fun! Background acting has been one of the best experiences of my life, and seeing WB Ranch brought back so many memories!! I’ve still never gone back to watch the episodes I’m in, as I don’t even remember which ones they were, but I DISTINCTLY remember running around with a trash bag on my head trying to take out the trash in the house.
Also, may I just say your guys’ crafty was unmatched. They always had the best snacks and food!
I’m heartbroken to hear that they’re tearing down the ranch, and though I spent far less time on it than you, I feel your sorrow.
It was great watching you show people around, and it makes me miss the show even more!

I was looking for the place where the TV series The Middle was filmed. But found a couple of youtube videos talking and showing the destruction of the place (WB ranch.) SO SO SAD and BAD to me. I wish i could have planned this visit years ago. I wish this place (and some famous others such as The Little House on the Prairie, TV show places and buildings) had not been destroyed.
Thank you much for keeping this kind of videos alive. Just for rememberings and respect of those gone places, and for the actors and people working all around them.

Atticus, came across your channel last evening and this was the video that got my attention. First let me say, thanks for posting this. We are big fans of "The Middle" loved the show. I am also a fan of movie and television history and of the studios. Growing up with the Andy Griffith Show many years later I got the chance to visit WB and other studios as well as making a pilgrimage to Franklin Canyon where the Griffth Show filmed the opening scene where Opie threw the rock in the Lake and the former site of Desilu's 40 Acre Backlot which was the outdoor setting for the town of Mayberry. Fast forwarding, this video joggled my memories of visiting, unfortunately got there to late to get to see Laramie Street where so many of my favorite westerns were filmed, it was gone! I was not familiar enough with the area to know about WB Ranch at the time, not realizing it was just a short distance away and I don't think it was open for touring. The video you have posted here is priceless ! This is the kind of content I really enjoy. Seeing the Ranch through your eyes as child actor who was actually working there is down right cool ! Most of the actors and actresses I have met and talked to did not seem to have a particular interest in the history of the backlots or the preservation of them. Well, enough rambling for now, keep up the good work, I will be watching and sharing your videos as...I have just clicked the liked button and subscribed to your channel. God Bless You !

Love the middle so much. It is on loop repeat in Australia. When the last episode airs it starts at episode 1 again the next night. I have seen every episode so many times. Such a funny heartwarming show. There were times when every character drove you crazy and other times you loved them all. So sad that the buildings have been destroyed. As an older person I grew up on I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, The Waltons, The Partridge Family and to see all those houses go, as well as the Heck's and many others is heartbreaking.

You are a great talent. My daughter is a nanny for three boys, and two identical twins have autism. Thank you, and that series for allowing a new and different character to be introduced to this world.

I lived in Burbank up in the hills for 20 years and drove by there many times but never saw behind the gates. This was so much fun. Thank you and thanks for your work on the show. It has brought me lots of laughs and joy over the years. May the Lord bless you.

Atticus, so much to love about this. This vid is history gold. Good on you!
I have a couple of travel ideas for you.
    I think you'd love a Boston trip.
They have historical tours (think Frankie's second job as Rachel Moody Cochran LOL.)
Seems like everywhere you turn there is a piece of significant history.
They have the famous "Duck Tours" in a WW2 amphibious vehicle that goes from city street to river.
Also, since you love trees, plants, history, nature, etc, I think you'd enjoy exploring the tips of northwest Oregon / southwest Washington areas.
Wildlife preserves, nat'l and local historical parks, two lighthouses, several WW2 forts, and stunning views of the Columbia River meeting the Pacific Ocean.
It's heavy with Lewis & Clark history, documentation, and commemoration.
(L&C loved their flora and fauna!)
The area also honors the histories of British exploration, Native Americans, and WW2.
    Take care, Atticus!

Sad that this video is what made me find your blog. Watched The Middle originally because I was a huge Scrubs fan and had to see what Neil Flynn was doing next. The show very quickly became a new favorite back then and is still something I stop and watch if it happens to be on. So sad to see such a history rich place become a memory. Last I saw it was going to be the site of more modern sound stages, making the ranch suffer one very tragic, final transformation. Massive amount of memories come from that lot for me alone so I can only imagine what it would be like for someone who got to work there, especially as long as you did. Glad I found your channel, subscribed now. Glad you are doing well. Thanks for sharing this footage. Bitter sweet to see some of this for the first time...for the last time.

Thank you for sharing this, Atticus. It is nice to hear and see your experience being there. I can imagine it must have been pretty special growing up on the lot. I got to work on the Warner bros ranch lot from 2015-2020 working in the animation buildings and trailers. It was a dream come true to get to make cartoons in the place that inspired me as a kid to be a cartoonist. I walked the lot every day with crew mates at lunch and we’d explore every set, film house and soundstage we were allowed to and it was fascinating seeing how the magic gets made. I remember getting a peek at the greatest showman set when they were filming in one of those back soundstages. Also when they covered the whole neighborhood in fake snow for an episode of your show I think. Also when they painted the small soldiers house pink and brought in old Cadillacs that didn’t even run and painted them pink for that Ariana grande video and a few days later everything was back to the way it was before. It was all so fascinating to me. I am sad that it’s all gone. It’s wonderful getting to see your footage and hear your point of view from your time there. 2015 was the year I started and I felt like a kid again. I am thankful I got to experience it. Keep smiling.

29:05 I think they tore down the Walton house not long after you filmed this. If I remember right. I only got to go back there a few times. It was lovely and peaceful. Then they tore it down and made it some beach house for that surfer/biker show. It was mostly off limits so I never explored it because of the berm and fencing they put up. Edit: you confirmed it.

We are definitely some of the lucky ones being able to work on a lot as pristine as the Ranch. Our era has definitely passed as far as that is concerned. Even if they build a whole new lot of studios, etc. It will never be exactly the same.
You be well, always. Might I ask, are you still doing animation? What's your art style?

@@AtticusShafferVlog Thank you, Atticus for your message. It means a lot that you took the time to respond. Yer a kind soul. I feel so very lucky I got to spend my time on the lot. I remember one of my favorite sets from your show was when they converted that whole area where the friends fountain was into an outdoor Halloween/graveyard/county fair kind of set up. It was so simple but effective; I lived 20 years in West Texas before LA... that set felt like a small town, but in the middle (so to speak) of a movie lot. I haven't been back to Burbank since they made all the changes. It really won't be the same. So many changes. Its always changing.
My last project in animation was doing Character Cleanup and Prop designs on the new Animaniacs reboot. We were in the CW building on the ranch. It was the longest I was on a show, but the last season was during covid and I worked remotely until it wrapped in 2023. I moved back to Texas to take care of my Dad before he passed away. Also so my kids could be closer to family. But I haven't worked in animation in over a year or two. I really loved animation, but I have an intention to create something from my heart using my art to be a blessing to the world. I made comic books for about 15 years at the beginning of my career. Also mentored thousands of artists in a sketchclub I started in my home town. And did caricatures at theme parks and county fairs. Whatever I could to pay the bills. That led me to teaching on youtube which is what most people knew me from. My art style is cartoons, but my medium is teaching others how to see their world more beautifully. Praying one of these days it'll lead to an income. It was a miracle I made it out to California in the first place, even more of a miracle to break into animation when I did. So anything is possible.
If you don't mind me asking, what was one of your favorite experiences being on the lot and your time on the show? I imagine there must have been so many formative experiences to choose from. It sounds like a blessed life. Thank you again for your message. Keep smiling, my friend. 🙂
