I need your help..! I have a 1977 Toyota Corolla and I’m having problems with the hatch and finding out how the mechanism works to hold it up... how is it put together?? Can you help??
Ah ok.. so the hatch is held up by two torsion bars underneath the headliner in the rear . Take down the plastic covers and pull the headliner down. Usually the plastic clips that hold the bars down wear and break. Unfortunately Toyota does not make them anymore. I had to pull the bars from the junkyard and reinstall.
@@MrTizzon It's a wagon. This is great information! I think we have what we think are the torsion bars but we aren't sure. All of the plastics and headliner are already mostly taken out which makes it even harder because we have no idea how it was installed directly. Forgot to ask if it was a wagon? Cause wagons are held by torsion bars. The liftbacks are held with struts I think?
