      +Eva Lily I'm sorry but a retirement age of 57 is just not feasible. Lazy people in Greece wanted it and got it. Of course after 2010 they changed it to age 67 but the damage is done.

    I think this is the right place to say that in Greece, state and church are not separated. That means that every Greek citizen pays the church via taxes. The church has a fortune of trillions of euros and is involved in many scandals. This is why, I think it is outrageous that we have to pay to be baptized, married and buried. I wish we could be cremated, but the church doesn't let that happen either. Religion is unfortunately all about money.

      Agreed. Organised mainstream religion is all about control and money. This is why i favour pagan religions as they can be worshiped to whatever degree you're comfortable with, especially nowadays when pagan religions are seen as near insignificant by the state (Greek gov doesn't see Ancient Greek pagan beliefs as a religion) which means no money and corruption is with it.

    A little thought for everybody who may find it interesting:
    Death has become a business like any else. Around the world exist doctors who have little interest in double or tripple checking if a person who is clinically dead is really dead. There are numerous cases where people came back to life after death. Their little problem was when they woke up they were at that time buried 7 feet under. What do you want to do? Old, helpless, burried and slowly you realise what is going on until the inevitable happens. As death has become a source of profit there are doctors paid by funeral companies that if death occures he will call them to arrive at the scene and arrange the funeral. They mostly do not care too if the person may eventually awake and in some cases and just to make sure they expedite the whole process to get the (maybe) dead person as fast as possible under the soil and cash the check. Not everybody is like that but what do you know who is going to be your company of trust? Like if anybody ever wrote a review on how good he was buried or how well he spent his time in the coffin.
    Then there is the aspect of money. Some people should learn that money is not a thing of life. It is a thing of taxes. Check yourself how much money a single bank note generates throu a day. You`ll be amazed if you already didn`t know that even the smalles bank note generates in one day way more money to the state as it`s actual value printed on the front and back. But that is a different story. I mean you cannot measure values by money that cannot be measured with money. If you feel bad about yourself for example not being able to pay for the most expensive funeral then you need to restart your view on values. A person who you lived with and cared about has left for good. What can money do to help that person after death? What good is a piano black and gold deluxe 1st class coffin to a dead person? Nothing. It is the memories you keep. Every person will live after death as long as there is at least one person alive who can remember the one that left. No money can buy that.
    Now some reasonable facts. If you have to move. You get evicted, you find a new job far away or whatever reason. What do you do with a grave? Do you move the dead with you? No. Will you feel bad if you cannot visit that grave more often because of the distance? Probably. If you keep the ashes or disperse them into the ocean, river or plant a tree somewhere and fertilize the soil with it or whatever you please then you have little to none attachement to a specific place. Except that tree thing I mentioned. That may be a dealbreaker. But that is not the point. It is all in our head only. In fact we are a bunch of micro organisms. Our true "self" is only our mind. Our body is just a visual representation of our mind. We have bacteria inside our body, outside our body, lots of organs work for no particular reason and we do nothing in our power to control them. We don`t tell lungs to breathe, we don`t tell the heart to beat, liver to filter, stomach to process food... that is at least what we call it. Heck we know what our stomach would rather call food. We never asked :) all those organs just work on their own. But lets get back to the point - People need to talk about death with those who mean something to them. People managed travel to the moon, magnify up to millions of percent and what not. But dealing with things like that seems sometimes like an unsolvable problem. It is hard the first time but it gets easier. In the end it becomes "sorted out". It won`t make it easier when the time comes, but it definetly will make you prepared. Ready. Ready to accept and deal with the situation.
    ...And as far as the church goes I have nothing to say because I could not care less what the church has to say about it. Those people are so detached from real life... pffffft it is not even worth the free and unpaid comment space on TH-cam. I mean if you belive in whatever it is totally fine by me untill I don`t have to deal with it.
    Bottom line - I did not mean to offend anybody. If you don`t like what I wrote then just skip it. All this was just a little something to think about and start your own process of evaluation. Maybe this can help somebody to start thinking differently and maybe this can lead to a first chat about the toppic with those that should be the partners in communication.
    Wish you all a good one.

    Greece has a small official population in relation with its land area. However Greece has a very strong urbanism. Nearly half of the Greek population is in Athens, Piraeus and the surrounding suburbs. Also the 80% of the Greek population lives in big cities. That urbanism didn't occur gradually and the population of big Greek cities and especially Athens exploded mostly in three decades between 1950-1980.
    The infrastructure of the old cemeteries was suitable for a much smaller population.
    A solution would be the construction of new cemeteries but that is very unpopular by the public because areas close to cemeteries are depreciated.
    Greek Orthodox Church forbids the burning of the dead. The priests of the Greek church don't have any direct political power in Greece. However they can greatly influence the opinion of Greek voters and that makes politicians and political parties very nervous. That why the burning of dead isn't possible in Greece.

    • @irianna44
      @irianna44 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, that's not even remotely true. If it were, then why do they do the same in small old villages? We buried my grandmother in 2016, and now we are forced to take her out. Not just that, but we have to pay 50€/y to have ONE of her bones in a box next to the cemetery, but all her other bones will be thrown away. Also, I remember, around 15y ago, the guy that used to go around houses to collect those 50€ for these boxes, died, and so the priest decided that he would be collecting that money, but you'd have to go by his house. You see, my grandmother didn't know about that, so when some time went by, and she went and asked about it, the priest told her: oh you didn't come to pay when it was due, to my house? Then the bones of your entire family are thrown in the trash!
      So yeah, we all know that it's all about money, and only money. The cemeteries are fucking small, and for bigger population than what the villages are now. But it was always like this, from the beginning. My grandparents village had 4.000 people, now it barely has 400. So, there's NO EXCUSE for having to dig out my grandmother, 6 years after her death. Of course, now that we will dig her out, we will have to pay money for that box, so the church, will earn money per year...

    • @AnonymousWonder
      @AnonymousWonder 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Adam S Chabane Nope, YOU are wrong. They do use bodies for years; sometimes parts are kept indefinitely (with consent). Body donation isn't as simple as people think it is, and even when you register to donate your body upon death, there is still no guarantee that it will be accepted. If they can't get your body quickly enough after dying, they won't accept it. If the coroner or ME is involved, they won't accept it. If your your organs aren't intact (think cancer), they won't accept it. If you have an infectious disease, they won't accept it. If you're obese, they won't accept it. If you die in a traumatic accident or by suicide, they won't accept it. Everyone donating their body to science isn't a viable solution. I'm a funeral director and have had individuals ask for advice on body donation, thinking it's a guaranteed solution. Not so. Look up some body donation programs and you will see that it's not as simple as you think.

      most people in Greece are not even religious (especially the younger generations) and there are plenty of people here that hate the Church (even devout Christians).
      the most proper burials happen in the small countryside communities (e.g. villages) with the dead remaining in their graves and the costs kept low.
      my grandparents were buried that way and what costed them the most was the Christian ceremony which can be avoided.
      this means cremation could also be avoided if people didn't want to bury themselves in the city graveyards where overpopulation and lack of space obstruct decent burial.
      the Church opposes cremation for their own reasons though
      so please do yourself a favor and don't believe whatever you see on these well-directed, mainstream media propaganda "documentaries".

      @@johnenglish8461 Religions only do good to masquerade the true evil that they are.It's ridiculous to say that religion did more good than harm. People sponsor the church every day by donations (required payment or you go in hell). Every single verse the church has taught us, is a control tactic, be it through fear, sadness, greed or joy. It's a trap. The whole idea behind every religion reminds of something I've witnessed traveling to the US. For Americans this may not make any sense but for some Europeans it sure will... USA is not just a Christian state. The american patriotism is a religion on its own. Every business organization, every political organization, every government organization is using that ideology to manipulate you into doing pretty much anything. "True Americans buy this" "If you are a true american, vote for...."Live the american dream", while 1/3 of the country lives near or below the poverty line.
      If anything, religion is the worst enemy of humanity. Religion is not a belief system, it's just another organization. People should be free to believe in god without the need for institution, without the need to donate for millennia. Greece is one of the countries in the world with most churches and chapels per capita in the world. Only the island of Mykonos hosts a whopping number of 600-800, with probably over 500.000 throughout all Greece.Huge part of them built from public donations. No taxes. Just around my home there are 3 or 4 churches. A 200-meter radius. Why? It looks more like money laundering scheme to me.

  • @GartzosPyr
    @GartzosPyr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    a very bad article about a very sensitive thing in Greece. Greeks pay because they want to honour their dead thats all it is. Talking about overpopulated graves in Athens simply happens because the population there is too high and there isnt any land to build graveyards. Who stops u at Greece to bury ur dead at ur village on the rest of Greece? Or even, who stops u to bury him without even paying a since euro? Like i said at start, a very bad article that talks about something that is inevitable, too many dead at a place with little room. Thats why people pay that much. And btw, paying for grave space costs everywhere, not only at Greece.

    • @Dedfaction
      @Dedfaction 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Pyrros Gartzos So you shouldn't talk about things that are inevitable? You shouldn't report on things that happen in other places? I guess no one should bother reporting on the Paris attacks because that kind of thing happens in Mexico or Syria to.

    • @GartzosPyr
      @GartzosPyr 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dedfaction The number of lives lost around the whole world from bomb attacks, famine and etc are alot more than the paris attack for instance as u mentioned. But... its paris right? I havent seen anyone put an african nation flag or a syrian flag at his fb account, but for france... its france, although the dead werent that many. Now, for the specific article, u wanna get buried in a place where there is actually no place to bury u objectively. Thus u are going to pay for it. Its like real estate mate, u want a 100 sq meter house in New York, pay 300k dollars, u want a house 500 sq meter in a village called Kolopetinitsa in Greece, u pay 10k dollars. But u can live on both, like get burried on both places , expencive or free.This is inevidability. Hope u got it. This article is the same to me like talking about how high are the prices of buying a house in a major city comparing to a village. And u cant do anything about it.

    • @Dedfaction
      @Dedfaction 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole, fairly pointless 'changing your display picture to the French flag' business aside (I honestly thought it was fairly shallow), you can't say that something doesn't need to be reported if there's a worse version of it somewhere else. That's ludicrous.
      There's plenty of 'room' in Greece, its hardly densely populated, the issue is that it costs shitloads for the service, burial, casket etc

    • @GartzosPyr
      @GartzosPyr 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dedfaction As for the price of the butial service , since u mention it, it isnt obligatory. U can make a very decent funeral with no more than 400€, an amound that is fully covered by the Greek government if u file the documents. At the specific article i dont recall saying anything about it. I simply dont like the attitude of the article, an attitude which imo they present it like everyone pays a shitload of money to bury their dead. Here, usually people pay a little more, simply because they want to pay more. And this happens all around the world, not only at Greece. Shit, i could make the same article in all of the European countries. In all of them!!!!

    • @Dedfaction
      @Dedfaction 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      'Shit, i could make the same article in all of the European countries. In all of them!!!!'

    Greece is a medium between First and Third World. Of course it is not First world, as it is less developed in fields like technology, internal economic production, incomes, wages and with a continuously corrupted State which mainly drags more and more from the common citizens while giving them back services of mediocre or even shity quality (like shity buses public transportation nowdays in Athens). It is also a country with few chances for private investments and initiatives. On the other hand, it has a very strong tourist economy (although with very low wages usually for its workers). It is a country with beautiful landscapes, islands, seas, mountains etc. Its people are not bad but they are a little bit idiot on some aspects (like people's private lives) because of traditionalism and conservatism. They also criticize easily everything (they are maybe some of the worst gossipers globally). This is usually more evident in rural areas of the country, including even the younger generations and in the urban neighbourhoods of big cities, because of more illiterate and poorer people. But generally it is not a country of bad extremes. Quality of life is surely lower than countries like Belgium, Netherlands, UK, France, Scandinavia or even Spain and Italy, but it is a society with a relatively calmer and slower pace of life. A society which doesn't have the same levels of crime and violence as other parts of the world (like the US or like cities in the UK). Let's say, it is a christian like edition of Middle East, without wars and upheavals of the latter and with better living conditions.
