My surprising trip in Emirates A380 business class

  • Today I’m on the Emirates A380 in business class for the first time ever, flying from Seoul to Dubai. And some of you really won’t like hearing what I have to say about it. Emirates has SO much hype around it, and people seem to absolutely love it. Well I found a great fare from Seoul to Stockholm with the airline, and so I’m putting this product to the test. And even if it wasn't all positive, it was still lots of fun.
We'll spend a little time at Incheon and the Asiana lounge there, and then I'll give you the lowdown on the Emirates superjumbo: what I think of the decor, the cabin, the service, the food, the onboard bar and more.
Let me know what you think!
    Flight info:
    November 9, 2023 ICN-DXB
    Emirates EK323
    Airbus A380 A6-EOI
    Seat 18A / Business class
    Flight time 9:39
    How I booked it:
This was a simple one way ticket starting in Incheon, via Dubai to Stockholm. Incheon is another great place to find reasonable premium cabin fares from. Total cost: $2,056 (USD)

I flew business Emirates from Sydney to Amsterdam and return Rome to Sydney last year on 3 x 380 and 1 x 777 and had fabulous service. I did not like the 777 as much. We even used the free Chauffeur service to our hotels so i love Emirates ❤️

I did 4 flights in Emirates a380 a few years ago .. the food on all flights was really bland and I don’t actually remember what I had at all , apart a few sandwiches in the bar area, which were far better eating imho .. the cabin crew were also as you said - people who treat their passengers as a necessary nuisance , and maybe forget who’s actually paying their salaries… the cabin is also too big (as you also pointed out ).. the a380 is so quiet that you can hear every noise people make , instead of being calmed by the engine noise as you would be in smaller cabins .. finally I found the enormous lounge in Dubai so busy that I couldn’t find a nice place just to chill during layovers , and the food there was also not good at all .. the wine was , and as I understand it , they have a huge wine budget and buy up lots of the stuff… but I gave up alcohol a few years ago anyway .. 😅.. to me the best thing about Emirates bidness is the nice car ride to the airport and to your hotel or home .. it’s a good part of the package .. thanks for a good video Mr Leigh .. 🙏

Had a similar experience on Etihad in their a380s to Sydney and back from Melbourne before the pandemic in January/February 2020. I was upgraded to business, which was great, and made me over the moon happy just for the business class seat and being able to sleep all night. But that's where the great things end. The food wasn't just meh, it gave me a wicked heartburn which took 3 days and multiple medications to clear. And the flight attendants were very perfunctory and brusque to the point where I just avoided interaction with them at all cost. And it wasn't just a one-off, both legs were like that.

    • @airedition
      @airedition  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ah yeah sounds like a definite disappointment! Etihad has really improved lately in my experience, have had some great flights with them the last two years. But any airline can have a bad day for sure.

Hey Gabe. I am older than your target dudes screaming into their phones. I get it as “I just don’t get it.” I agree, I don’t know what has happened to decorum. But, this is what I now do… If someone is using FaceTime or some other live video chat service, I make an effort to stand behind them, get in the shot, and stare disapprovingly into the camera behind them. I have heard some say, “Hey, there’s some guy standing behind you…”

Hi Cabe, I am a first time viewer of your channel and a confirmed Emirates/ Qantas codeshare flyer. I agree with many of your reality checks of the airline, mainly because the hype of the bar without the paid actors smiling and talking intimately. Still many of your concerns can and are replicated by our national carrier, plus their staff may have stopped caring. When faced with a choice to repeat the Emirates experience or select an alternative departing Australia, you can guess which way I tend. Our biggest problem is the choice of flights across the Pacific where without the Middle Eastern airlines, a dismal situation presents itself. I look forward to one of your deeply analytic reviews of the 14+ hours on Qantas, United, Latam or Air New Zealand. Cheers

I just had a couple of flights with them and my experiences were identical to yours, down to the awkward interactions with the cabin crew and random minor things in the seat being broken. I’ve read that their pay is not what it was and wouldn’t be surprised if training and maintenance was also scaled back in the name of cost cutting.
I’d still fly with them again and love the A380 but the fawning over the airline is probably a combination of goodwill they’ve built in the past and the marketing machine being good at identifying “vip” passengers.

My headphones were static sounding so I watched Netflix on my phone. Seat felt old. Maybe the new a380 seats would be much better though.

I flew Emirates AKL - AMS economy return a few years ago. 2 points! I'm gluten intolerant and vege. After the outbound flight I phoned Emirates but they just didn't get it! By the time I reached Dubai I was starving! So OK I know I'm a challenge and I take supplies with me. Return flight I was offered a banana as I couldn't eat the meal! Point 2 - I'm 6'4" so booked extra leg room. After the trip decided never to fly long haul economy again!
Flew Korean last year, brilliant service made sure I had food I could eat. Shame about the 777-200 on the first leg.

I had the chance to fly with Emirates in the A380 business class in a two legs flight from south Africa to Europe changhing in Dubai only because my flight was canceled and the company rescheduled me on the Emirates flight. I was also pretty excited about flying business on A380 but I also noticed some things like pretty slow dinner service in the first flight the cabin an seat was nice in first plane in the second was a bit older and you could see the lacks like comfort screen, forniture and technical issue like the seat of my neighbor had to be fix on the fly by some mechanics and also the separation between our seats was not working but on my request they kindly moved me to another one after some passenger didn't show up otherwise was a full flight. The crew was always friendly to me and the service was good and nice in general.

Only flown Y on the EK A380s, only annoying thing is it takes 2 hours be be served your meal. If you’ve prefer a special meal they’ll give those out first but with not drinks, so you’ll only get a drink after you’ve finished you meal with the rest of the cabin. Otherwise wide seats, smooth ride of the 380 and great entertainment.

I totally agree. This airline has a very blah and jaded business class and is highly overrated. Among the carriers in this region I used to place Qatar first, Ethiad second and Emirates third for business. Qatar has slipped due to its arrogance and hubris, Ethiad is trying to figure out where they fit, and Emirates is living on its past hype. None have the allure they once had, unfortunately.
