Karl-Anthony Towns On New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards, Embiid, Steph & Dirk

- NBA superstar Karl-Anthony Towns sits down with Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay for an extensive and candid conversation. Karl-Anthony, also known as KAT, starts off by discussing his offseason activities and his claim to be the greatest shooting big man of all time, stating that he’s an even better shooter than Dirk Nowitzki or any other big man in NBA history. He dives into why he didn’t showcase his shooting abilities while playing at Kentucky under Coach John Calipari and talks about how both his and Anthony Davis’ games evolved after making it to the NBA. KAT also touches on the balance between team play at Kentucky and individual NBA aspirations.
KAT then reflects on Kentucky’s legendary 38-1 season, expressing the sting of their lone loss. He also delves into the Minnesota Timberwolves’ performance last season, offering an analysis of why they were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks and how the team discovered its strengths by relying on veteran leadership and holding each other accountable. Shannon Sharpe presses KAT on his shooting struggles during that series, asking why he didn’t change his scoring strategy.
Karl-Anthony addresses criticisms about his work ethic, specifically responding to comments made by Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, and Draymond Green, who have all questioned his practice regimen. KAT sets the record straight and also discusses his long-standing relationship with Kyrie Irving, tracing their bond back to their early days in New Jersey. KAT praises the skill and dominance of the Boston Celtics last season and explains how their championship was a long time coming.
KAT spends time talking about his Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Anthony Edwards, highlighting what makes Edwards special as a player and how their connection on the court is so strong. He explains why Anthony Edwards listens to him more than other people and discusses Edwards and other NBA stars' decision not to participate in the NBA Dunk Contest. KAT gets into the infamous rift between him and Jimmy Butler, explaining how the experience helped him grow as both a teammate and a leader.
As he does on the court, KAT doesn’t shy away from discussing his heated rivalry with Joel Embiid and the scuffle they had, including how he felt when he went up against Embiid, Ben Simmons, and seemingly the entire city of Philadelphia. He elaborates on his mindset when facing off against top-tier NBA talent like Nikola Jokic and other elite players in the league, and discusses his friendly rivalry with Anthony Davis, reflecting on the similar paths their basketball careers have taken.
KAT also talks about his financial strategy, revealing that he takes business inspiration from notable figures like Magic Johnson, 50 Cent, Alex Rodriguez, and Floyd Mayweather. Shannon asks KAT whether he grew up a Knicks fan or a Nets fan, and while he rooted for both teams for different reasons, he favored the Knicks more. KAT goes on to share stories about growing up tall, playing soccer as a kid, and improving his coordination through sports.
The episode wraps up with KAT reflecting on his decision to go to Kentucky, why he chose the Wildcats over other schools like Rutgers and NC State, and his thoughts on the all-time best Kentucky, Duke, and North Carolina teams. He also weighs in on the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake beef and picks his all-time Kentucky starting five. Finally, KAT gives his thoughts on the upcoming NBA season, his goals, and his excitement about what lies ahead for him in the NBA.

I loved and miss how he picked apart Skips arguments though

@@wadecountybabethank you that Katy williams interview is the reason he took off this crazy and even if he worked with skip he would’ve done that interview
As a Wolves fan this interview hurt but at the same time brought a lot of happiness knowing Kats going to his childhood team and a team that had so much influence on him throughout his life, best of luck to the best shooting big to exist🙌🏻

Strange comment 😂
@@jaymack9442i think NY will make him a dawg lol. That crowd goes nuts for hustle plays; once he does that a few times that positive feedback from the crowd will make him want play with more grit.

T-Wolves fumbled the bag with KAT the same way they did with KG🤦🏽♂️😭
Devo will become a star player on the T-Wolves … but Randle is going to drive them crazy with all his ball-hogging & turnovers.
@@chrisconnors9449A star? Come on now, 6MOTY I can definitely see happening for Big Ragu. Don’t sleep on Randle though.
They don’t need a big man shooting 3’s they need a big man with a consistent rebound & post game
@chrisconnors9449 - KAT led the wolves in turnover rate, and made them the worst turnover team in the nba. I doubt Randle can be much worse
Actually, KATs turnover ratio of 12.2 is slightly worse than Randles 11.7, while Randle averages more assists
They traded kg out of respect bc they were never gonna win and they’d wasted so much of his career. Fans were very happy for him… Kat’s situation is different, but most fans are still very supportive of him.

21:39 Notice Shannon asked him about his post work 2 questions in a row and all he is talking about is shooting…so do you even work on your post game anymore? It makes sense why he leaned more on shooting 3s in that horrible playoff performance, because that’s what he has his most confidence in.
Exactly, never answered the question about his post game.
@@nicholaswilliams1675 ultimately NY will be frustrated with KAT in the playoffs if he keeps this same mentality. I actually want NY to win. This is the best chance they’ve had in 40 years.

@@nicholaswilliams1675 I also don’t believe he trains as hard as he claims. I really listen to people. Shannon asked him about his post work & he went through an entire day, which also probably a bit fabricated to make himself sound better, and all he mentioned was shooting.

The Playoff KAT thing is overblown. KAT's improved defense and playmaking was a big part in even reaching the Western Conference Finals. He had a solid playoffs, just shot terribly in the WCF. Ant had a rough series too imo.
Knicks won the trade! 💯 Wouldn't surprise me if KAT plays a huge role in the Knicks finally winning the chip again.
KAT plays soft, he refuses to play inside while just settling for 3s. He has a terrible turnover rate as well. Wolves got destroyed by Lively and Gafford, they shot 70%+ for the series
And KAT was terrible in his past 3 playoffs and a huge reason the wolves were eliminated in the first round the previous 2 postseasons. If KAT showed up, they would have beat the Grizzlies a couple of years ago
Everything actually came full circle for him ending up on the Knicks
