- We decided to go on a short weekend trip to 강릉(Gangneung), where the air was much cleaner than in Seoul : ) Obviously we can't move away from where we live right now, but I think we'll do these short trips more often from now on. The kids loved it, too!
서울의 미세먼지를 피해서 공기 좋은 강릉에 다녀왔어요. 다른 곳으로 이사를 당장 갈 수는 없으니 이렇게 자주 짧게 여행 다니기라도 하면 좋을 것 같아서 이번주에 한번 가 봤습니다. 강릉 좋네요!

It may seem peculiar but as a Korean learner, I really like to see how children and adults use language. Not only are the Korean subtitles really helpful to read and understand, but children seem to not over complicate ideas and meanings so it's nice to watch. A lovely video!

Hey Hyunwoo! To help Joon learn even more words and phrases in English you might consider getting him some audiobooks or so called "audioplays" in English. I found a great video by a mom (Antoinette Emily) who raises her children bilingually very successfully. It is called "The best tips & resources for raising bilingual kids". In the video she also talks about audioplays and recommends this webiste: europa-kinderwelt.de/englische-hoerspiele/ (it's a German website). Just thought I'd share that with you. wow, you are such a nice dad. Love your family. I envy your children cause they have such great potential in learning languages thanks to you. My mother is german teacher but she didn't try to teach me from the start. She said she was trying when i was bit older but i was very stubborn not to learn this. Now I have really demotivating teacher in school and I can't speak it, despite learning it for 3 years. God, i wish my mom had been speaking to me in german from the start, by now I would have spoke 3 languages instead of just 2 😒

Joon has a great understanding of English but shouldn't you be concerned that he doesn't, reply back in English?
asra06 I wouldn’t worry. It takes a child’s own time and confidence to respond in their nonnative language. They may not understand the usage for it but his understanding shows he is more than capable. I say this because I’m an English teacher in japan and I see this happen a lot
It happens a lot with bilingual children who are exposed to both Asian and Western languages such as English. It does make a difference if the dad knows Korean/speaks Korean like Mr. Hyunwoo because then Joon will not feel the necessity to speak English all the time to get his father to understand what he is saying. He will speak English once he has more exposure to it and knows he needs to speak English. Many second generation Korean immigrants in USA and Canada are similar to Joon except that for them it’s Korean they don’t speak as well
honestly it's not a problem at all, as a bilingual child myself I still have the constant habit of replying in English to my parents who speak Bengali, despite having both options haha
Yeah, it’s a natural thing for him :) He speaks it when he needs to ^^
I wondered-is it like an age thing where bilingual kids at that age speak the dominant language mostly (Joon knows he can respond in Korean and be understood), like they're asserting their own control, but maybe as they get older they'll respond in the language in which they're asked? Or does it vary from kid to kid?
