I drove alone in my Xmas holidays from Abbevile, Orleans, Macon, Geneve, Lucerne, Zurich, Schaffhausen, Munich, Salzburg to Innsbruck in a 12 years old car Citroen DS that was permitted to run on Autoroute and Autobahn. Like you I was also enchanted to see Austrian Alps for the first time and in my opinion the Austrian side of Alps is better than the much hyped and costlier Switzerland.
