When we played this song for a band camp piece, the conductor told us that it was written for a saxophone player in a band who had died. That's why there's the saxophone solo parts. Know that it always makes me tear up a bit hearing this song! I really love it.
the first time i heard this played by an orchestra, as i watched the performers on stage in front of me play this song, i was speechless for the first time in my life. if there is a more beautiful (i dont know how to describe this the emotion behind this..... just....) song than this i will die (and im barely exaggerating)
this song we poured so much emotion into. I went to discovery middle school, where the shooting of todd brown took place. we were having some problems with this song. Sometime during practice, our band director talked to us about how much this song fits our emotions. He talked about the incident and everyone could feel the love and sadness in the room. We poured it into this song. After we, we sounded amazing. Just shows that if you put emotion into what you play, it will show up in your music.
We're playing this in band right now, it's one of my favorite pieces we've ever played...just beautiful. It reminds everyone of the movie Avatar XD Anyways, thanks a ton for the upload!
@1113Alekazam - Alec, you did a great job on the solos. I couldn't have been more impressed! And I know your band director was very pleased with the way you learned them in a matter of hours. Not too bad for a Freshman! Keep up the good work.
@jboyer1234 i loved our wind ensemble last year, and you are right after the shooting you could tell that we were all more focused and truly understood the emotional part of it. I hope we can play it at least once at BJHS.

@imatree, it's not a clarinet, I would know cause I used to play one for this piece. It's actually an alto sax on solo.
We're playing this song for our spring festival and I just fell in love with it. Does anyone know if you can buy it on iTunes?
Right.. they had like 6 minutes of undivided attention.. but when they Had the percussion and brass solo at the beginning was phenomenal.
