What's not mentioned is the "L" is putting the car transmission in Low gear that's designed for towing or up hill driving which puts the transmission in a tighter gear to put less stress on the engine, Driving in low gear all the time will damage your transmission over a short period of time so be careful driving like that.

Eureka!! It worked!! I no longer have to deak with my car shutting off at every stop at every light, every drive thru, everytime I come to astop sign. Thanks for making this video, always having to put it back into L6 is slightly a nuisance, but not that bad

Yeah, you technically shouldn't move it to L6, or M6 on older models. I was researching this a bit before I started implementing it- M or L puts the car into Stick Shift, so if you kept it on, you'd be driving stick & that means the car always has to be manually put in the correct gear, or it fucks up the engine over time. I just wait until the car has gone below 10mph, then switch it on, so its automatically in 1st gear, then put it back into drive before I start moving.

I found that, drive as normal shift lever in D(rive). When coming to stop and your speed is 8 mph and under fully release brake for a second, then stop as normal and it will not shut off. I found that this works on 2017 & 2018 Chevy Malibu.

I asked the dealer why this has the feature they said it's the save gas but doesn't restarting the cylinders and it's only the cylinders that shut down doesn't restarting the cylinders end up wasting gas?? One would think so.. and also I heard this is not a permanent fix only temporary. Every time you turn the car back on you got to do this all over again. Gross. Chevy you need to get rid of this feature it's horrible.

If you are running the vehicle in L all the time, the transmission will not be operating properly. The vehicle will be using a lot more fuel, and there will be excessive stress on the transmission.
I don't know the Chevy, but most vehicles have a disable button. Make a habit of pressing that button every time you start the engine, as like having to turn on the headlights at night, or having to use the signal lever before making a turn.
In many types of vehicles, simply leaving the AC button on all the time will disable the auto stop-start. The AC in modern cars does not use excessive fuel as like the older cars from before the mid 1970s.

If you have the six speed you tap the plus sign 6 times after putting the car in “L”. The car will still shift through the gears like an automatic. You don’t have to do anything once it is in L6. It gave my Cruze a lot more power on takeoff, it even sounds different. I wonder if this same trick will work on the 8 speed, 9 speed, 10 speed

To permanently disable this go to a dealer and buy a hood latch switch assemby... drill the rivets out of the new latch assembly then zip tie it down making sure the button stays compressed.. this will make the car believe the hood is open when its not thus preventing the car from going into auto stop... 2014 Malibu lt 2.5... only thing that will happen is you will have a hood open message thats all....

2018 cadillac xt5. (basically chevy equinox, gmc terrain), when you come to a slow stop, the car won’t turn off. In my experience the car only auto stops when you stop quickly (assuming it thinks you’re at a stoplight whereas when you come to a slower stop it thinks you’re at a stop sign or just slowing down on the highway)

$20 Wiring harness with Auto Stop terminator, literally lift the hood, disconnect wire harness, insert the terminator into the line. close hood, boom no more autostop in Drive Gear/Mode.

I'm sorry you did not turn that feature off. If you look in the software threw the obd2 the feature is still on. You're simply no using it anymore. That's all. Not Turing it off or bypassing it in any real way. Further more you just showed who knows how many people how to prematurely ruin their transmission. If you look in that little book they give you stowed away in the glove box, it tell you when the proper time is to out your car in "L".

I can't wait to tell the dealer that I fixed it myself and of course they will want to know how.

I found a pretty permanent solution that works and doesn't require L6 for all late model Chevys.
Under the hood right by the latch (the release) and directly under the hood support rod, you'll find a pretty small censor, about 2 inches in length, disconnect that and you're good to go. You're gold Ponyboy! From what I've read and the research I've done, it tricks the car into thinking the hood is open so it disables auto start/stop. I've also read it might make the check engine light come on but at least you know what it is. I have a 2018 Malibu and can attest to the fact that this hack works. This guy deserves all the credit. He saved my life. th-cam.com/video/DZ7HMCCD9JM/w-d-xo.html

there's no need for all of these crazy theories and "mr.mechanic" idiocies...
you start the vehicle... put vehicle in drive (D)... stay in the country and avoid stop signs and traffic lights...interstate driving is key to fuel economy...
stick to that itinerary and your vehicle will never auto stop...PROVEN METHOD!
