I’m extremely late but I’d like to thank you as a Brit for recognising the empire didn’t reflect the attitude of the country and how the UK and British Empire are separate from most stereotypes not just in the fandom but the world.
Finally, someone who understands that with the fall of the british empire, the United Kingdom (In my opinion at least) is a totally separate nation compared to the brutal nature of the empire.
In countryhumans sure, but irl, current Britain and the British empire are the exact same thing. Hell, currently, the UK is *still* a colonial empire, it’s not like they’ve lost everything or had a revolution.

But they are definitely no longer as cruel as they were before, that could be said about most nations of the colonial age of course. The punishments and death inflicted by the British during the colonial age were shocking to read about, because nobody really talks about any of it.
