Once again great Video about my current favourite series. You talked about a view points I never thought about before which is awesome.
I fully agree that it is great that we learn more about the lifes of all the characters. Especially about Peters family and others relations. I personally saw the relationship between Peter and Lesley changing from a romatically charged relationship of co-worker to a rivalry between magic students and sibling relationship with strong hints or a somewhat loving past. Lesley changed as a result of her injury and her entry into a magic world in which she shines and slowly makes her injured face fully hers. Peter is somewhat stuck in the past and still blames himself while Lesleys magical "boyfriend"(?) doesn't notice it because he comes from a different world.
I see Beverley quite differently from your point of view. She isn't human and as such has different views on the world. Especially the glamour which is a part of her. I am not sure if she can really control her magical charisma as it is a passive part of her. As in if she is in high Emotion that her magic flows by itself and is just a part of her own uncontrolable emotions. Beverley has a different moral compass and I think you should see it as such. Also her lifespan is very different so maybe she is unsure if she can really be with Peter forever. At one point she is gonna stay young while Peter is gonna age.
About their magical river adventure I agree that Peter wasn't able to consent in helping a river spirit. But I see the explaination as that they were jump starting the progress that would have happened either way. And as Peter said he would have done it either way.
Last but not least as far as I remember they said that Nightingale was the only known wizard who aged backwards up to this point because of what happened in Ettersberg. Personally I would like to know about this mystery and what exactly is in the Black Libary. Nightingale is one of those mysteries I would love to know more about.
Also I don't know if you already know but Ben announced that the next book is gonna be released on the 7th of April next year and in addition there seems to be a River of London RPG in the works by Chaosium.

      Varvara was also aging backwards

@@ChloeFrizzle That is true, I wasn't really sure in which book they talk about her aging and how far you have read. Didn't want to spoil you by accident

I read all of the books, incl. the short stories and moments, and yes, I can see why you don't like Beve, but right in the next book Lady Ty will tell you (and Peter) how that relationship looks from the other side. This relation will only bring pain to Beverley. Think about it. She will out live Peter. She will out live her own children, if they are Peters. Yes, the magic between both can bring a river god back into being but on the human level they will have normal children and they will die. I think Beverley knows this as well as her sister but she want this relationship so much. And maybe, only maybe she frears that Peter could end the relationship before it really get deeper, when he knows all of the consequences for Beverley. Because when you like someone yout don't want to heart him or her.

I've read all the books now (and my review of the next three comes out on Friday! 🎉), and I totally get what you mean. Lady Ty very much grew on me in book 6, because we got to see the more "human" sides of her life with her husband and kids. And I do think that a lot of what Beverly does is motivated by fear of losing Peter. He's her first really serious relationship, and she's got something really good there. Tyburn has probably told her that it's not going to be the happiest long-term, but that's just going to make Beverly fight even harder to make the relationship work. Book 6 certainly gave me more sympathy for Beverly, but it didn't change my mind on whether it's good for Peter that they're together.

I totally agree with you, I would have liked Bev if she was more of a side character. I’ve always really wanted Lesley and peter to get together and the author always gave them chemistry but never followed through. I can’t believe Lesley wasn’t even mentioned in false values, its like shes been completely ditched as a character(shes my fave too)

Don't you hate it when someone dislikes your latest relationship because they want for you something different than what you want?

Well, this was interesting to find. I’m impressed that the books and the characters are so important to you; and I suppose the author would be chuffed. Peter is likeable; I think he’s a bit too good to be true, but that tends to be the way with fictional heroes. I rather like Beverley, myself; I take your points about her behaviour, but I think you have to bear in mind that she’s been a river spirit all her life and she takes it for granted. When she uses her powers to manipulate mortals, it’s something she does as easily as breathing, and I suppose she’d have to concentrate really hard to stop doing it. Are she and Peter right for each other? Are any two people right for each other? Would Lesley and Peter be right for each other? Is anyone competent to predict such things? I don’t think I am.

Too bad you hate on Bev so much because they end up married with a kid. And Peter has shown time and again that he can resist mind manipulation against entities much strong than Beverly.

Ugh, yes, it's led to me liking Bev even less in the future books. I still love the books, I just wish these characters weren't together

@@ChloeFrizzle Beverly is easily one of the most interesting and dynamic characters in the series. It's weird you have so much hate for her.

It's a great series, I just finished False Value today. It was interesting to hear your take on the books particularly on the 'Fatherhood' angle.🪄😁
