  • Waverley Excursions "Waverley" is the world's last seagoing Paddle Steamer and is back on the South Coast delighting many people as they climb aboard for an experiance they will never forget. The "Waverley" was at 110 Berth here in Southampton on the morning of 9th Sepetmber 2023 to pickup up her latest passengers who want to take a cruise on "Waverley" for a Steam Round Isle of Wight Cruise and return to Southampton later in the day. Her due departure time was for 09:30am but there was some kind of delay before she eventually managed to depart with the help of the small Itchen Marine Towage tug "Wyeforce". As the "Waverley" started her journey from 110 berth she passed a couple of cruise ships and the one you see in this video is the P&O Cruises "Ventura" being refuelled at Mayflower Cruise Terminal.

I’ve been “doon the watter” on The Waverley several times, in her home waters and around the Isle of Arran. The last time we were onboard, it was a beautiful sunny day, with the Kilbrannan Sound, between Arran and Kintyre, like the proverbial mill pond. As the ship turned to thrash her way back to Lochranza, a Spitfire of all things appeared out of a cloudless sky. The pilot was obviously as intrigued by the sight below him as we were of such an iconic plane, because it banked and flew around The Waverley several times, waggling its wings in salute. The Waverley blew her horn in response and we passengers cheered and waved. The ‘Spit’ then climbed and resumed its original course.

Wow that was a lovely memory to have seeing Waverley then a Spitfire fly overhead, thank you for sharing your memories.

@@SteveCarrett are you based in Southampton Steve? I lived in Shirley in the 1970s and left to go to art college. I still have family there and visit them occasionally, but have lived in Scotland for forty plus years.

Hi Mark, Yes I am based in Southampton and was born here and have lived here all my life, I live roughly about 3.5 miles away from where I mainly do my filming from on Town Quay which does have excellent views of the ships arriving and departing.

Hello Steve opening shot of this video shows 2 chaps in a "rubber ducky" dingy with an outboard fishing???? Just seems very strange!! PS Waverley is a marvellous little vessel I am very jealous of all her passengers onboard Regards Lynne🙃

Good afternoon Lynne from a cloudy but dry Southampton for the time being at least. There's nearly always someone doing bit of fishing within the docks and they fish from town quay itself as well, I am not a great fan of people fishing from town quay, there are signs that says "No Fishing" but nobody takes a blind bit of notice. Regards Steve.
