After playing guitar for 10 years, I realized Indian songs don't need guitar because the vocals do the guitar solo.

AR Rahman is a musical genius. There isn't a genre that he hasn't delivered in, all the time maintaining the aesthetics of the movie in question. He won the Oscar for the Slumdog Millionaire song 'Jai ho', but for me, and i'm pretty sure millions of other Indians, that is probably one of his bottom 10 songs of all time. Some albums (movie albums) of his that you should check out - Saathiya, Roja, Dil se, Bombay, Rang de Basanti, Rockstar, Highway, Tamasha. This song is from Dil se.
You also can watch Shreya Ghoshal’s perfomance, great Indian singer, with this ensemble at Berklee. The song is Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha. It’s just mesmerising💜💜💜

@Maggie, in Indian classical singing, using head voice or a mix id forbidden. Everything you heard is chest voice. Female singers in India usually have shrill voice texture which makes it sound like head voice.

The chorus is in Tamil. The main solo song is in Hindi. There is another A.R Rahman composition that Berklee students have performed. It is even more mind boggling. Search for it.
