    Thank you for acknowledging this as an issue, when I came across it a while back I was really frustrated and thought it was my machine. Now I have a swatch of thick canvas fabric I keep handy. I fold it in halves to the height I need and pop that under the back of my presser foot. It works pretty well as a substitute for the tool if you don’t have one.

    I had no idea that my sewing machine could do this. I always thought that I needed a different machine to sew thicker fabrics. I found your video after I watch another video about using a sewing machine to bind book pages. I am so glad to have found your video. Now I have to go looking for the accessories that came with my machine so that I can start using them when I sew thicker fabrics.

    I sewed an apron with heavy canvas and the the thickest part was about 9 or 10 layers. I initially used Singer denim needle (100) and the needle broke before I was able to finish one side of the edge. I had a packet of Bernina demin needle but only at size 90. They worked fine. I used the denim thread but the thread would jam when I start with the thick edge. I have a Bernina 535 which should be powerful to get through this and my solution was to slow my machine way down and to do one stitch at a time at those thickest part. It worked but I am going to try your suggestions to see whether it would be helpful. Thank you!

    • @RomyStanZakStudio

    Thank you for this! I am covering nylon webbing with fabric and then sewing it on. I've had a lot of success with it so far but when I fold the webbing (with the fabric already sewn on) it essentially doubles in thickness.. I am fine sewing this but when back stitching to reinforce it jamms or the needle bends/breaks. Tried all diff types of needles and I'm having no luck.. would u have any idea what this could be? I tried hunting the internet for information but little to none is there for this issue except your video! Thank u

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Merci 🌸 nylon webbing is quite sturdy and difficult for regular machines to handle, specially when folded 😉. Can I suggest not using the back stitch then, but doing a second seam on top of the first instead and if needed a third when you feel it needs to be extra strong 💪 🌸✂️ I hope that will help.

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your machine has a free arm and if it’s narrow enough for your sleeve, you can slip your sleeve around it. If not, two solutions : 1- sewing by hand 😇💪 2- unstitch your sleeve, lay it flat, stitch the patch and stitch the sleeve again with the machine. Voilà ! Hope that helps 🌸✂️

    I have a height compensation tool but I still have issues sewing buttonholes using my machine automatic buttonhole foot. I can't use the height compensation tool because the buttonhole foot moves forward AND backwards to create the buttonhole. My machine has no dial or programmable feature to adjust the pressure foot tension. Do you have any suggestions on how I might sew buttonholes on thicker fabrics because right now, I am avoiding those projects.

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buttonholes are tricky no matter what and when I feel that the fabric is too heavy for my machine to handle, I do them by hand. It’s not that long and it always comes out beautiful and neat. Sorry for not being more helpful 🌸😇✂️

    I was wondering about how to sew back down from thick layers to the thin layer? Often the foot jumps forward off the thick layers quickly and leaves a gap or a very long stitch.

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the same technique on the other side, placing the tool in front of the needle instead of behind. But of course to prevent breaking the needle, just walk the machine very slowly by hand (with the machine wheel on the side), moving the tool forward at the same time and pace. Also you might consider finishing your seam right before coming back down to the thin layer and starting sewing again from the other side of the garment. Hope that helps 🌸✂️

    What size needle do you need for thick materials and what number of tension is best please

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tension depends on the kind of fabric you are using and how many layers you sew. I recommend you try on scraps of fabrics until you find the best setting for you project. The needle choice also depends on the fabric. You can use a universal 80 if you are not sure. Best wishes 🌸🍃

  • @giselletrejo9109

    I am sewing onto cotton canvas and when I get 4 layers of fabric (2 pieces folded) the needle gets stuck into the fabric and an E6 error appears. I am using a 90/14 needle. I’ve tried the jumper method with many fabric scraps but it still happens, I also use large stitches. I’m scared of damaging my machine if I continue any further. What would you recommend I do? Would a stronger needle make a difference at all?

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hum... it’s hard to give advices without seeing your machine and the settings you made. Is your thread of good quality and not too tight ? Also for the needle, I would try with a finer one instead of a bigger one. Something like 80 or 70. Also is your machine able to stitch through the layers when you walk it manually with the wheel ?

    • @giselletrejo9109
      @giselletrejo9109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RomyStanZakStudio Thank you for responding, I am using 100% polyester gutterman thread. I have tried walking it manually but i will not finish the stitch. I will try a smaller needle!

    • @RomyStanZakStudio
      @RomyStanZakStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What machine are you using ? It seems to me that if you can’t finish the stitch manually, either your machine is not powerful enough (which would be very very surprising for just 4 layers of coton) or there is a problem with the threading. Did you take out both threads and put them back in place ? Try making a new bobbin for the inside of the machine ... fingers crossed 🤞

      Merci de votre message, votre français est parfait ! Et j’espère que le carton a pu vous aider. Il peut y avoir plusieurs causes si votre machine saute des points : trop de tension dans les fils, une aiguille non adaptée au type de tissu choisi (ou simplement trop vieille), un fil de mauvaise qualité, etc. Happy sewing ! 🌸🌸✂️

      Both tools are used for the same purpose. For the specific one I use myself, it’s the Bernina one that comes with the sewing machine. Unfortunately the only place that I found that sells it on its own is in France and I don’t believe they ship abroad I am afraid 😔

    • @RomyStanZakStudio

      Do you mean the embroidery scissors with the bird shape ? They are meant to be quite small for really intricate work. About 10-12cms long. ✂️✂️✂️
