Thank you! I actually threw mine away but decided to check TH-cam for a fix and came across this video. Took it out of the trash, followed your directions and now it’s working again. Thanks for saving me $30.
Thank yu Strut. Got 2 fixed this way now an 3rd device i actually had to slightly bend the sparker slightly closer to the fuel nozzle so it can make an arc to ignite. BUPAME IS BETTER THEN OTHER FUELS. BUPAME IS BEST. BUPAME IS LIFE!!! BUPAME!
Let me start by telling you I have no affiliation with the author of this video! I do have a love for TH-cam and the Thermocell Backpacker Mosquito unit I was having trouble with. The Backpacker is an entirely different unit but hopefully has the same basic components as the one described in this video. I have to admit I didn't watch the entire video before attempting to fix mine because that's the way I roll. I got to the portion where you stretch the spring and decided I would attempt it. My Thermocell Backpacker would light but not stay lit. Now this unit was almost new and only used a couple times but I've had it for a few years so I didn't want to throw it away before at least attempting a fix. Well, It worked!! Without this video I would not have attempted it and really wouldn't know where to start! Thank you thank you thank you for this post. I give it a big "ThumbsUp" and am now subscribed to you channel. Great job and keep the videos coming!
Steve Fredlund you’re welcome bud. I’m not a “youtuber” by no means, but I kept buying new ones when they wouldn’t light or stay lit so I discovered this easy fix and thought I’d share. Thanks again.
@@strutsnbucks Well, I've found this to be a wealth of information and just about anything you want to fix or build is on here including fixing my Thermacell so, Thanks for the info. Stay safe!
Good video! I found the same fix works well for me. While I have it apart though I do one more thing that I found helps. I take the mat holder/heat plate apart and there is a brass barrel with a screen at the top that the butane actually travels through and is the actual "burner". I take that barrel out and clean the screen with some brake parts cleaner and then let it all evaporate out before I put things back together.
ty a fix. I bought the patio version today and it would not stay lit. The spring was in a different configuration but I stretched it as best I could then put it all back together and it's been working for an hour, thanks again.
Thank you very much for this video. It is greatly appreciated good sir. Saved me some money and the satisfaction of knowing I'm not throwing something away that still works.
Thanks. I have the lantern type, and it worked well three times, then no more. I have nothing to lose by trying to take it apart and fix it! Appreciate the video!
Great video! It wasn't my spring...the copper wire had slipped off the strikeplate. Anyways, problem solved. Maybe next time, help a girl out and state that it's a Phillips head ...hard to see into those little holes. Enjoyed the malaprop (buprane)!
Good video, when I took mine apart I didn't find a long spring like you show. It seems it's that the spring is stuck inside. I tried to insert a small diameter screw to hook the spring and remove it but no luck. I'm sure I can't find a spring to match it so I'm stuck buying a new one. Still like your video.
I have a new MR300 with this problem. They have updated the design now where that spring is behind a little allen keyed set screw. Carefully remove that with an allen wrench, stretch the spring as you see in this vid, and carefully push the spring back in and put the set screw back in. Mine doesn’t light immediately, but at least now it does light eventually after a few minutes of trying. At least it didn’t end up in the garbage :)
Thanks for info, I think mine has that allen set screw now I have to find a allen small enough. I just wish I would have seen your post before I reassembled it.
Realized that if your hear it hissing then you probality don't have an issue with the cartridge emitting gas. Removed the cover plate and moved/bent the copper wire closer to the burner. Closed it up, turned it on...waited 5 secs and click click...back burning and ready for the woods...
Thanks! It works for mine too! But, maybe I stretch a little bit too much the string because, now, it dosn't stop anymore!!! But, I just take out the butane to stop it!
I'll try it with my Backpacker... Has worked flawlessly for two years until today... I admit, I leave it outside all the time, connected to the camping fuel, with the hot SoCal sun baking it, so probably my bad...
I don’t have this model, but I’ll try this for mine. Went hunting the other day and couldn’t get it to light. Probably the spring not letting any bupane in. Lol
That was not my problem because I could clearly hear the bupane (lol) flowing out of the cartridge. It just would not light. Occassionally it would light but then it finally would not light at all do to a lack of ignition. Had an old thermacell that worked for 8 years till I lost it and then I bought this newer model and it sucks.
Could someone please tell us what temperature the metal heating pad reaches? I would like to build my own "burner", electric, candle, heated via campfire? anybody tried this?

Same😂
Thanks for the information. I have two that are probably 25 years old. Worked until last season. I will now get them back going.

Worked like a charm. I couldn't stop laughing w/ the bupane slip-ups . Thanks for the post.

Is the ignition wire near the flame supposed to turn red and stay red?
Thank you, you saved me from having to buy a new one.
Awesome video! Mine is not staying lit so I will try this. I think they awt to run on bupane OR protane, lol
Thanks for the fix tip, appreciate that you shared this info...
Good Florida guy knows how to dig into and fix...need them Thermacells in Fla!

@@elimorissette-parent139 welcome. Easy enough to take back apart and adjust.

Yes it helps thanks
Good Share Buddy!
Thanks for the tip!
Appreciate that tip 👍
Thank you i will try it
Awesome!
Thanks!
Houston....we have ignition!
Thank You. Now time to hunt.
I’ve got one that the gas keeps running. Can’t shut it off. Ideas?
I’d check inside and make sure the switch is functioning properly first. Then check the spring is allowing the valve on the fuel to close.
@@strutsnbucks I have checked the on off switch. It’s not making proper contact with the spring and shut off device. Any ideas . TIA.

Does this ever address ignition? Couldn't finish, like watching Brupane evaporate.
Could someone please tell us what temperature the metal heating pad reaches? I would like to build my own "burner", electric, candle, heated via campfire? anybody tried this?
Thanks for the bupane video. Lol. good video
You didn’t tell me how to work on the Igniter mine will not click
cocodrake ... yup .... no ignition!
buepane
Well I tried, mine melted* unfixable
