    Just returned from a week hunting in North Florida. I did the refill thing for about 15 cents each. Sams club sells a 4 pack of Butáne 8 oz for $5.28. I also tried the pad refills for less than 10 cents each. Everything worked great. I have ARS pads coming. I think for the 15 cent cost Ill avoid trying to be a chemist.

    Good review its funny these survival shows like bear grylls and les Stroud almost "never" mention mosquito infestations and they are in problem places almost every week

    I refill my Thermacell mats with a mixture of permethrin10 diluted in a 1:3 ratio of distilled water and they work great you can buy a 8-12oz bottle of permethrin10 at your local agri feed store for $8-12 and it lasts Ive been using the same bottle of permethrin10 for two almost three years now.
    I just take a small mason jar and put the mixture of 2x distilled water and 1x permethrin10 put lid on shake and let the bubbles go away then take some old tongs and dip used mats/pads into the liquid until they are damp them put them on a layer of paper towels for about 5 min them store them in a snack size zip lock storage bag. they work great and last on the shelf for over 6 months. The only thing you don't get is the blue color but they work great if not better than the origianals

      I have tried the 10 percent permethrin without a lot of success. I fog mosquitoes in my backyard with a propane fogger that uses permethrin and they are attacking me while i'm out there fogging. They eventually die but permethrin is not the quick knockdown/repellent as pyrethrin, which is the active ingredient (though synthetic) in the thermacell pads.

      So is it safe to say that getting Pyrethrin concentrate is the way to go? 1:3?

    You ever try regular bug spray on the pads? Get the used pad soaking wet and then stick it in the thermacell appliance. I did it with cutter bug spray and it seemed to work.

    I'm sorry lower in my post i said 2x water 1 x permethrin10 it is actually diluted in a 1:3 ratio although Im sure 1:2 probably wouldnt kill you but it would surely smell a lot worse like the permethrin10

    I have three thermocells and have never seen them smoke _at_all_. Maybe it's the ambient temperature there? I'm using mine in 80-95 degree South Florida. Thought the criteria of how much smoke they made seemed strange. :) Clearly a smaller pad has less capacity and less surface area to heat; so that's not going to stack up to the larger Thermocell pads. But did they actually work?

    • @philtitus7860
      @philtitus7860 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never seen any of my thermacells smoke either. I wonder if removing the check valve to make the butane cartridges refillable make them run hotter. I have not yet run mine on refilled cartridges

    How does lasting 8 hrs depend on how much you use it? 8hrs is 8 hrs . Fyi they last maybe 4 hrs!

    The ARS mat12's are 5% d-trans allethrin. Do the eBay ones say how many % they are and what they weigh?

    • @RiverRatCatfishing

      Here is some info I found.
      Active ingredients: Prallethrin 0.99%
      Dimensions: 2 x 4cm / 1 x 2"
      Contents: 20 refill tablets
      Repellency time: 1 tablet provides up to 10 hours of protection
      Weight: 25g / 1oz (pack of 20)
      I personally will not buy the ebay ones again!

    It appears you use two of the AR-12 mats in the vertical position at the same time to put out as much, or more, smoke that the original Thermocell mats. Have you tried that?

    • @RiverRatCatfishing
      @RiverRatCatfishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have tried that, and in my opinion it isn't needed as on mat works well.

    In Canada I'm paying $13 for 12 mats. Why so much more expensive in the US for an American product? Given the currency exchange, you should be paying $0.60 ea. not $1.50!

    Thanks for sharing. Really lousy when a company sells their products at way too much money. That's capitalism. Rip off society. Some things are still a good deal but alot of items just twice as much or more than what they really should be or are worth.
    We are lucky for those people who make a similar product and sell it for more reasonable prices.

    • @joshlaubach8166
      @joshlaubach8166 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually capitalism is another company making the same thing to compete against it for a profit and possibly cheaper.
