I am playing in D standard (had to tune up my sixth string as I’m usually in drop C(!
Heavy and great fun playing this! I am still learning a lot but I definitely imagine you Robert head banging while playing this w/your friends in your garage! I hope that will possibly be my One year old Boy some day!
I missed out earlier in my life. Now in my early thirties with very low vision I hope to make my own Music. Really though I want to get as far as I can with my guitar playing and learn how to record ‘n’ all of that so if my Son later wants to pursue a passion with Music I will be capable of guiding him along the way! 🤞💪🏻🤘🏻
Is your Son learning guitar?! You mentioned in a older video that your Son liked one of your guitars (forgot which beauties it was) so you told him he can have it if he learns (making sure he sticks with it I’m sure) and that’s why you mentioned you were going to hold on to that guitar.
My memory is random ‘n’ a bit vague/foggy but that instantly came to the front of my mind so my random memory is to blame for my fingers typing so dang much!!
      Joyous blessings EVERYONE!!! ☯️
*Do excuse me for such a lengthy comment*

I think "Rain When I Die" might be my favorite underrated AIC riff. It has an almost pseudo-psychadelic feel to it, but is unmistakably Cantrell in every way.

2002, Jerry Cantrell plays Manchester Uni, UK. First 6 or 7 songs were all his solo stuff. Someone shouts out 'Play some Alice!' Jerry replies 'You want it? You got it!' and starts this riff up. An hour later he's played nothing but AIC. AND William DuVall's old band were his backing group, with William singing too, a clear 4 years before he joined AIC. Happy, happy times.

Facelift is one of the best albums ever made in the 1990's. Jerry's crunchy, raw, visceral tone defined the band from the rest of the Seattle sound in a more personal and open way. Thanks for the excellent demo of one of my favorite songs Robert! Keep up the great work!

Good name bro! I spell it the same way! I friggin love that up stroke too. It’s crazy though cause I always thought it was Em instead of major. Seemed too dark to be major. What a great heavy tune though. I love when Lane growls his signature “Yeah” preceding that riff! Such a great band!

Facelift is my favorite AIC album. Perhaps it was because i was in my early 20’s in Washington state when all of the music scene was popping off, perhaps it was because my band opened for glam AIC way back, but perhaps it was because that album encompasses what it is to live in the pacific NW. rain, flannel, boots, and coffee….

This song is played live (?) in the Cameron Crowe film “Singles” and the song “Would?” Is on the soundtrack. There’s also an earlier scene at the same nightclub with Soundgarden doing the track “Birth Ritual”, Chris Cornell (RIP) also appears on the street at one point (no dialogue, but he helped with the soundtrack) and the fake band in the film has 3 future members of Pearl Jam in it (Eddie Vedder is the drummer).
This movie was ripped off by NBC for the series “Friends” because Crowe was like, “the story is over, why continue it for a TV show?” So they changed names, moved it from Seattle to NYC and tweaked some of the backstories.

Big thumbs up 👍 on this one. JC is a master of manipulating simple chords and getting the most out of them. He rakes, chugs, bends, vibratos, arpeggios, etc then all of a sudden you know it’s a JC riff. He has a signature way of manipulating notes. Very special imho. A lot of Jimmy Page in Jerry Cantrell.

I learned this riff and song not too long ago. Not necessarily difficult but at the same time, tough but that's what makes it so much fun to play

This is crazy! I just taught this song to my daughter yesterday after listening to it on the ride home from school! Coincidence to some degree but I do think I phone is spying on me for sure.

Absolutely a great underrated riff. All you youngsters need to go watch the movie ‘Singles’. The film came out at the height of Grunge and had a number of Seattle bands in it. Alice In Chains is actually performing this song in a club when the male lead meets Kyra Sedgwick’s character. Matt Dillon and Pearl Jam portrayed a fictional band called Citizen Dick in the movie as well.

I have many guitars. Ibanez, fender etc. But my favorite guitar is still my first guitar that I got almost 40 years ago ..a G&L rampage that I put a Seymore Duncan invader pickup in.

You are so much more subdued now that you are in your new studio. I don't know if that it is so calming have the dedicated space or what. Regardless, thanks for the continuous lessons, encouragement, and fun.
