Its awesome that you let the audience know that Steely Dan is coming up next week in the description, now i can refamiliarize myself with the albums and follow along better with my own thoughts on the discography! Nice - Keep these coming, awesome channel as always
Great job guys. I love Queen. I remember hearing We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions being debuted on the radio. For better or worse it's difficult to imagine a world without those songs. It's always fun to hear your lists, but it's so much more fun when it's one of my favorite bands. My favorite is Sheer Heart Attack.
Glad to see Queen II getting a lot of love in the overall rankings. It is easily my favorite Queen album, followed by the debut, A Night At The Opera, Sheer Heart Attack & Jazz.
@@doncaplays Check out "Great King Rat" "My Fairy King" & "Night Comes Down" from the debut. All would have fit nicely on Queen II. And then there is the powerhouse that is "Keep Yourself Alive".
Im a GenXer (born ‘67) and I learned about Queen when I was in 7th grade. Another Bites the Dust was big. When I was in college I became a bigger Queen fan. Im a huge Led Zeppelin fan and they were pure arena hard rock. Queen was what I like to call orchestral rock. I love them and I love that younger generations have discovered them. Their last album was fantastic. Remember Freddie was ill when they were recording this album.
My favourites..... A fantastic live band and to this day one of the best bands I've seen live. 1. Sheer Heart Attack 2. A Night At The Opera 3. Queen 2 4. A Day At The Races 5. Jazz 6. News of The World 7. Queen 1 8. The Game 9. The Works 10. Innuendo 11. A Kind Of Magic 12. The Miracle 13. Flash Gordon 14. Hot Space 15. Made In Heaven
Born in ‘60 so I became aware of QUEEN when BoRap hit US radio stations - and was lucky enough to see them live ONCE. Agree with your comment but not your list! ❤
Really like the channel, especially these album rankings. I love the way none of you give even the slightest shit whether or not your opinions track with each other or with the music review zeitgeist. I also appreciate the more detailed mini-reviews that you each do with each album as opposed to the vast majority of your contemporaries who have almost nothing specific to say and resort to using escalating synonyms for "like" and flashing their vinyl copy of the album (or apologizing for not being able to locate their physical copy of album #19). Keep up the good work guys... your formula might not work for everyone in this era of diminished attention spans, but it works for this viewer. I will most likely watch the majority of what you post going forward as well as slowly work my way through your robust back catalogue. Lastly, it is very evident that you guys are putting in the work required to deliver the best content you can. I can't even imagine the total hours invested into putting out these album rankings, particularly of very prolific bands. Thanks for all you do. Advice: Don't rank James Brown albums.
Very well put! I certainly don’t agree with all the reviews but I love how seriously you take the rankings and really commenting on each record, and also how you really follow your own tastes regardless of weather they fit with general consensus or not.
Rubbish! None of these three actually like Queen that much, so even though they are free to critique what eve they want, this is not objective, it’s just failing to appreciate what a phenomenon Queen were and still are.
You guys helped me appreciate them a bit more. Was never a huge Queen fan so this helps. Killer Queen and Bohemian were always two of my favourite songs of all time since I heard them on the radio when they came out but never listened to their albums much. Eager to check out first three since I do hear that Mott influence ever since your listography got me into Wild Life and Mad Shadows which I also never heard previously
Good work guys. I've blathered on about Queen quite enough on my channel over the years so I won't comment at length. I'll just repeat the story about how in my old band, whenever we had to audition a new musician we used to take them to the pub first and ask them what they thought of Queen. If they said they didn't like them, we wouldn't then in fact ask them to audition. Waste of time. A while back I did a discussion video with another UK Queen fan about their eighties records. Cheers.
Great. I love Queen. Especially the seventies albums. I bought «Live Killers» when it came out i ‘79, and soon bought the rest of the albums on cassette. I’ll will rank ‘em before i hear your rankings: 15. A Kind of Magic 14. Flash Gordon 13. The Miracle 12. Made in Heaven 11. Hot Space 10. The Works 9. Innuendo 8. News of the World 7. Jazz 6. Queen ll 5. The Game 4. A Day at the Races 3. A Night at the Opera 2. Queen 1. Sheer Heart Attack Now this is at the moment, so next time it may Change. I just went through the whole catalogue the last week, so this show is a gift. Thanks guys. Keep yourself alive!
For goodness sake, there are no fillers on 'A Night at the Opera'. 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon' is short, but it is sweet - I love that song. A lot of those really short songs that Queen wrote are absolutely stunning - think of 'Lily of the Valley', 'Nevermore'...especially the earlier albums.
Nope, strong disagree. Great album with good filler but lots of filler nontheless. That's the whole thing with Queen, 4 different songwriters with unique voices with no central authority/ego controlling the output. All of their albums have filler because of the free-wheeling nature of how they organized the band.
@@Jaggedknife11 Nah, . Sheer Heart Attack, A Day At The Races, Queen, Opera have no filler, or very little filler. We also have different opinions of what filler is since we all like different things. I feel the 80's albums have more filler, but they're are people out there that love those songs that I consider filler.. I love a song called filler, but you may hate the song called filler.
@@S1LLY_ASTRO_L0VER I define filler as a song I feel is not quite complete, or just there to fill time/add a certain sound but clearly not meant to be a stunning showoff for the bands capabilities. I love queen, especially Their early stuff (honestly with a few big exception I don't really like 80s queen. 70s queen is genius though) Dosn't mean I can't also see the flaws. For years I've said Jazz is my favorite queen album and one of my favorite albums of all time. Dosn't mean I don't see songs like "get down make love" as good ideas that feel unfinished and are there to add variety but not necessarily the best of the best. Sweet lady really feels like that to me as well. Good riff and melody, but super simple and repetitive and has a bit of going thru the motions vibe. It's Like they said "we gotta add an extra rocker so quick think of a riff and lyric and boom done". Anyway I'm just trying to have a good back and forth with other music fans who appreciate good stuff like queen. Calling me an asshole seems like an overreaction.
Regarding Queens’ popularity in the U.K.: yep, they’re huge. The problem, however, is that it’s almost solely based around their ‘hits’ and that Queens Greatest Hits is the biggest-selling album of all time, here; followed by another act whom you could label similarly regarding popularity: ABBA, with their compilation, ABBA GOLD. Everyone owns it. It’s a shame that the average music consumer doesn’t delve developer and explore their studio albums, more. Great video, guys!
That's because like me they have never done the full discography before and mum and dad bought the greatest hits...or it's easier just buy the highest starred albums on Spotify and Amazon....until last week I would have maybe agreed. Now I just say go and listen to the albums properly children. With full on patronising nasal twang. 😁🤠
Yeah I totally agree - I’m from the UK and I’ve been listening to some of their 70’s albums for the first time recently and they’re sooo creative. I particularly love the debut album (of which there are no songs on greatest hits) and Sheer Heart Attack and some of my favourites on there are album tracks (Brighton Rock!!! Flick of the Wrist!).
@@matthewdean2669 Their first album is one of my favorites too. Great King Rat, Mad the Swine, The Night Comes Down, Jesus, and Son and Daughter are among their greatest pieces.
I really Like 5 Queen Albums, to be Honest Queen was a Band I never Liked back then. 5 - A Night at the Opera 4 - A Day at the Races 3 - Sheer Heart Attack 2 - Queen II 1 - Queen The First Album really got Me into Queen.
Yours is almost exactly like mine except I had Queen 2 and Sheer as the first two with the first album 3rd. But I have zero heartburn with your order. The first 5 are all great, I tolerate the next two and hate the 80s stuff
My all-time favourite artist and the reason I became obsessed with music nearly 20 years ago! 1. Innuendo 2. A Day At The Races 3. The Game 4. The Works 5. The Miracle 6. News Of The World 7. A Night At The Opera 8. Sheer Heart Attack 9. Queen II 10. Hot Space 11. Queen 12. A Kind Of Magic 13. Made In Heaven 14. Jazz 15. Flash Gordon
Agree with much of what was said here. I don’t think Queen is overrated at all when considering the diversity of musical styles and risk they took, the talent of each member, and how incredible those early albums are and how many hidden gems are on each of them. I can’t think of many other bands that have influenced such a diverse range of artists - from Iron Maiden and Metallica to Boston and then Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. I do agree they are overrated by most fans as they judge them solely by the hits and haven’t heard the first 4 albums or have any idea how hard these guys rocked live before they got mainstream. I think if Queen arrived in 1970-1971 and not 73 the catalog would look way different because they wouldn’t have had to change their sound so quickly to keep themselves relevant around punk/new wave. Along with the first Van Halen and Back in Black, Night at the Opera and News of the world were the first tapes I ever owned when I was elementary school and they were the first bad whose catalog I completely went through (Pink Floyd followed shortly after). Those 70s are all over the place but that is what I find so endearing about them - a different kind of experimental creating a musical adventure when it was done well. The variety of the music I listen to now I owe in part to Queen and the fact I started my personal musical quest there. Prob Pink Floyd too because I’ve always Sun Ra and avant-Jazz because of that early catalog. Queen II - for me it’s their masterpiece. You summed it up so well Joe “a Renaissance painting.” I can’t think of any other album like this and just so easy to get immersed and find new things every time I listen to it. Sheer Heart Attack - one of the best album openers ever? The first speed/trash metal song ever recorded?? That incredible medley on side one, the first John Deacon pop song on side 2?? Only knocks are I can do without In the Lap of the Gods and the production on Now I’m Here is missing something (song always way better live). A Night at the Opera - this is a perfect album IMO, no weak spots to my ears. Great shout out on The Profits Song. Love the Brian May songs on here 39, Good Company, and Sweet Lady is awesome (if you love Kiss how can you not love this song)! I still rank Sheer Heart attack higher because of the raw power in parts and just the murkiness of that album I like more. Queen - such an underrated album can’t agree more. Liar followed by The Night Comes Down awesome, the instrumental part on My Fairy King that has such a unique ending in those final notes, those power chords kicking in the middle of Jesus showing what a powerhouse these guys could be when they wanted. The production gives it this dark vibe which makes a perfect nighttime album. News of the World - skip to track 3 Sheer Heart Attack and its such a perfect set of songs. Who could pull off Sheer Heart Attack then follow it up with something like All Dead All Dead? It’s Late, Spread Your Wings so good. Gimme generic rockers like Sleeping on the Sidewalk all day. A Day at the Races - its a great album IMO but a step down from the first 4 for me for two reasons. First, the production doesn’t have the same flourishes as ANATO - the Brian May jazz band, the touches like on Seaside.....it’s the first album they produced themselves without Roy Thomas Baker and it sounds more polished/less experimental/more straightforward. Second a couple very weak songs in White Man and Teo Torriate which I always thought was cheesy. That said, side one absolutely perfect with a couple tracks that are among the best in the catalog. The Game - a great pop record. A few of these songs I’ll never need to hear again but Save Me, Play the Game, Dragon Attack, Sail away all great. I actually really enjoy the Roger Taylor new wave cuts also. Jazz - def the weakest least consistent album of the 70s, the worst produced too. Some great moments like Dead on Time and Mustapha but also a few cheesy clunkers from Deacon. Their only 70s album I find myself pulling off after a few songs and going to something else. The Works - this is a good album and prob the best one they did after The Game. Agree it’s almost a carbon copy of The Game but there are a bunch of good songs on here. Innuendo - I want to rank this a few spots higher - the title track and Bijou in particular are some of the best things they ever did. I like the generic rockers too and Ride the Wild Wind.......the cat song though just sucks and a few other ones aren’t good which takes it down a few spots. A Kind of Magic - title track (love the guitar solo in this song - just the perfect solo for a pop song), Princes of the Universe (awesome), Kurgans Theme (Mays intro a nod to EVH), and Who Wants to Live Forever. That’s pretty much it though - the rest isn’t good. Highlander did win the Academy Award for best movie ever made according to Ricky Bobby. Flash Gordon - yes I’m ranking this one higher. Just two great songs on it but so many ethereal instrumental pieces that I really love. I always thought Blade Runner had one of the best soundtracks ever and some of these take me to a similar place (although not nearly as good as the Vangelis work). Helps that I loved this movie as a little kid. Hot Space - Under Pressure and Cool Cat are the only redeeming qualities. Side one is def a turkey. The Miracle - Joe summed it up well. Made in Heaven - maybe I need to hear this again but I hated it the first time I heard it. I understand the circumstances but just a strange vibe through it.
I asked for Night at the Opera for Christmas 1975. My stupid brother bought Queen II instead, I was really disappointed, until I dropped the needle! Still my favorite album. Saw Queen in concert in 1981. BEST concert ever.
I've definitely been more in the camp of knowing Queen only for their hits. They are my son's favourite band (he's 6) and he has that red greatest hits CD. For months he listened to it before bed every single night so I have heard it a lot but lately he has switched to songs about Minecraft so I must say I miss Queen. "We Will Rock You" is his top favourite song, it's fun to see him rock out to it. This week I did get to listen to the first two albums and liked them a lot more than I expected. I really was not expecting the first album especially to sound the way it did. So I think I will need to check out a few more of the 70s albums. I am shocked Jason likes Hot Space as much as he does based on the description and what I have heard of it. It's great that you're all always full of surprises lol.
Hard to listen a more impressive and stronger initial 5-round than Queen's. Queen II is definitely, and by a far, my favorite. Would love to see a Teenage Fanclub listography.
In my opinion it has a sense to listen just the first seven albums and the ranking is following: 1. Queen 2. Sheer heart attack 3. A night at the opera 4. Queen II 5. News of the world 6. A day at the races 7. Jazz Enjoy listening to these albums😉
I love Queen and, as most fans, I tend to prefer their 70s output most of the time - it's nearly flawless for me, add to it The Game (a kickass record!). They kind of lost something in the 80s, but I still like those albums for their fun, feel-good, pop songwriting. Glad to see this much love for Queen II - an underrated gem.
@@Jekkyboi no way man!! It is a very common practice to include singles on albums. The fact that the Beatles only did it on soundtracks, typically, should not be held against only them.
@@chargree I agree, and i fucking love it. But the way i feel about it is, its so good its basically a greatest hits compilation, comparable to abbey road side 1. But the difference is for abbey road, the band organised those songs and their tracklisting as an artisitic body of work for the album. I highly doubt any of the actual beatles intended those songs to be a part of mystery tour as an album. Granted it definetly fucking works though.
1. A Night At The Opera 2. News Of The World 3. Queen II 4. Sheer Heart Attack 5. A Day at The Races 6. Jazz 7. Queen I 8. The Game 9. Innuendo 10. The Works 11. A Kind Of Magic 12. The Miracle 13. Made In Heaven 14. Hot Space 15. Flash Gordon My ranking always changes depending on the day, but always the 70s albums are in the Top 5.
Just found your channel thanks to youtube noticing that I was watching a lot of "rank the rock artist/band albums" videos lately. This was so interesting. I definitely like the perspectives of having all of you there. I really started getting into Queen in the early 2000s (my early twenties) when I developed a strong interest in 70s hard rock. Of course I'd heard plenty of the hits before and thought they were -- ok, sometimes. But discovering stuff like "Brighton Rock", "Keep Yourself Alive", "Ogre Battle", "Stone Cold Crazy" (Covered of course by Metallica; I never realised it was a Queen song til probably the late 90s), "Sheer Heart Attack" and more was really what made me like Queen. The further away they get from that kind of blueprint, the less I like them, though I do have a fondness for Play the Game for instance. I just want to say though guys -- and I think one of you is more in agreement with me on the way I perceive this than the others (sorry, I'll need to watch more before I become familiar with your names)...three stars, three anda *half* stars? TO me that's a pretty damn good album! I guess star ratings are weird. For me I wouldn't rate something I'd not voluntarily listen to above 2 stars. Four stars is something really impressive and 5 blows your mind. The comments you guys leave for "3, 3 and a half star" albums like Miracle are really sincere and rather harsh, don't get me wrong, so it's not at all an issue with your actual statements about the records, which is the far more interesting part of the whole game anyway...
Ratings these days are tough … there’s so much grade inflation, critics rarely give out anything under a 3/5 so I had to raise my ratings in general. For me 3.5 is an album that’s pretty good but lacks staying power or has a few good or great tracks but not a cohesive album. 3.5 stars and I’ll probably never listen to the whole thing ever again. 4 stars and up, then it’s a great album or 5 stars an all-time classic. - Joe
It's one of Axl Rose's favorite albums among with Something by Todd Rundgren, Louder than Love and Never Mind the Bollocks. I heard an interview with Axl from '87 talking about Queen II and he has also frequently mentioned A Night at the Opera as a huge influence on him.
This is the first week that I tried to follow along. Unfortunately, I didn't get much out of the first four albums at all so I had to quit but I'm gonna listen to Steely Dan for sure.
That's the only Queen I really like. The hits are novelty songs. The bombastic theatrical stuff I largely can't stand. They were a good band just not for me, and needless to say I think they are massively overrated.
I'm an Englishman that has been a Queen fan since my dad brought home the Night at The Opera album. Queen never really made it big in the US and the comments in this video pretty much say why, I think. It's a cultural thing. In my opinion Queen's greatest strength was their live performances, which you just had to be there to understand how emotionally powerful Queen were, and they set their songs in their proper context. No-one just walked off after a Queen gig; you floated out of the arena and didn't come down for days after. I stuck with watching this video to the end because I was intrigued enough to want to hear a differing point of view, although I think attempting to rank music is a pretty lame and dullard thing to do. Anyway, a big thank you for at least putting serious thought into the back catalogue of a band that has been a big part of my life. And by the way, Queen II is probably their finest recording work. Thanks again.
Queen was and is hugely popular the US. It’s impossible to listen to the radio here without hearing them. I’ll give you that the US totally tuned them out in the 80s while they remained huge in other parts of the world, but I don’t get saying they never really made it big here. That’s flat-out not true.
15 - Flash 14 - Hot Space 13 - Made in Heaven 12 - A Kind of Magic 11 - Innuendo 10 - The Miracle 9 - Jazz 8 - Queen 7 - The Game 6 - The Works 5 - Queen II 4 - Sheer Heart Attack 3 - A Day at the Races 2 - A Night at the Opera 1 - News of the World
Queen did not only produce great albums , they were absolutely fantastic live. You only need to watch their Live Aid performance to see what they could do. Their Live Killers album is one of my favourites. I do agree that they guilty of writing some duff tracks but a Bohemian Rhapsody and Somebody to Love are just brilliant. I disagree about Tie your mother down, it is one on my top ten tracks and I was surprised no one mentioned the Stunning Now I’m Here…makes me feel alive every time I play it. My top five would be: 1, A Night at the Opera 2. A day at the Races 3. Sheer Heart Attack 4. Queen II 5. News of the world.
Top5 band for me, I enjoy every album (except the 2 of the bottom) . My ranking (very personal): 1. A Kind of Magic (10/10) 2. A Night to the Opera (10/10) 3. Innuendo (10/10) 4. A Day at The Races (10/10) 5. Queen II (10/10) 6. News of The World (9,5/10) 7. Sheer Heart Attack (9/10) 8. The Game (9/10) 9. Jazz (8,5/10) 10. Queen (8/10) 11.The Miracle (8/10) 12. The Works (7,5/10) 13. Made In Heaven (6,5/10) 14. Hot Space (4,5/10) 15. Flash Gordon (3,5/10) Greetings from Canary Islands.
My brother and I are big Listo fans and big Queen fans so we were super pumped for Queen Week and just watched all 3 outstanding shows back to back. My Top 11: 11. Hot Space (I love the disco funk and love that they weren't repeating themselves) 10. Flash Gordon s/t: I am a HUGE fan of the movie so I do love this, even "Football Fight" 9. The Works 8. A Night at the Opera (I believe it's overrated, and while I love Boho Rhapsody, it is the hit I am most weary of) 7. The Game 6. Sheer Heart Attack 5. A Day at the Races 4. News of the World 3. Jazz (I love FBG/Bicycle Race A LOT and I actually love the whole messy weirdness of the thing) 2. Queen 1. Queen II Fantastic week, fellas. Listo 4ever 🎉🎵
This is the one list that I’ve dreaded since subscribing. I’m one of a very rare breed here in the U.K. who just never got it when it comes to Freddie and co. For years I’ve had to smile inanely and nod my head when everyone I know tells me they’re the greatest band ever. They’re not (there, said it, feels good) Roll on Steely Dan 👏
You are not alone with that...it is not just Queen and I am sure that everybody has those "everybody-loves-XXXX- but-me artists". And those conversations you try to avoid - "You like progressive - you MUST love Rush, you like heavy - you just MUST love Metallica." Must I? Obviously not.
I’m British, so I obviously love Queen. I grew up in the 70s and there was very few good quality rock songs on the radio. Queen was one of them. They were also great live. Problem is though most albums are Jekyll & Hyde. Some really good stuff mixed with disposable rubbish. My top 5 studio albums: 5. Innuendo 4. The Game 3. Jazz 2. Night at the Opera 1. News of the World However my actual favourites are Live Killers & Greatest Hits.
I think, relatively speaking, the most anti-Queen dissent comes from British people (even if it's dwarfed by the love for Queen). There's a strong leftist/leftfield element in the UK that despises Queen, mostly for political reasons. For example: if someone raves about The Clash and The Smiths they'll most likely hate Queen.
1. Jazz 2. A day at the races 3. News of the World 4. Queen 5. A night at the opera 6. Sheer heart attack 7. Queen 2 8. The game 9. Hot space 10. The works 11. Innuendo 12. A kind of Magic 13. The miracle 14. Flash Gordon 15. Made in Heaven
I find their first seven albums are all five star classics. The game and hot space were a big step down but still good albums. Everything after that is not very good unfortunately. It’s funny, a lot of music writer’s point to the “ I want to break free” video as where they lost their American audience. I totally disagree. They lost their American audience because they started making crap music in the 80s.
Comment # 2: It was refreshing for once to see Night at the Opera not coming at the top of everyone's lists (I also had it at # 6). I've always enjoyed the grimier side of Queen (one of the reasons I love News of the World so much). On Joe's point about never having heard anyone talk about Queen II, Beck Hansen was often heard to rave about it back in the nineties. Slight modification to Kramzer's point that Queen was a band that turned up at the studio with their own individual songs already written and ready to record...in fact that's not quite the case. In a lot of cases, what would be brought to the studio would be song sketches to which everyone would then sweat blood to turn into 'Queen', but the person who brought in the original idea would retain sole authorship. Finally, it's not a kazoo on NATO, Roger did all those parts with his voice!
When making Hot Space, Roger Taylor threw out a bunch of songs that the band rejected. He later used them on his solo album, Fun in Space. Which is an excellent album. They should have listened to him.
My favourite song from every Queen album are: Queen - Doing Alright. Queen II - Nevermore. Sheer Heart Attack - Killer Queen. A Night at the Opera - Bohemian Rhapsody. A Day at the Races - Good Old-fashioned Lover Boy. News of the World - We are the Champions. Jazz - Don't Stop Me Now. The Game - Crazy little thing called love. Flash Gordon - Flash's Theme. Hot Space - Calling All Girls. The Works - Radio Ga Ga. A Kind of Magic - One Vision. The Miracle - Breakthru. Innuendo - These are the Days of our Lives. Made in Heaven - Let Me Live.
10. Hot Space 9. Flash Gordon 8. The Game 7. Jazz 6. A Day at the Races 5. News of the World 4. Sheer Heart Attack 3. A Night at the Opera 2. Queen II 1. Queen
Yeah, I don't quite know how to take that song. Is it satirical? Is it the world's worst advice to people suffering from depression? Does Freddie think suicide is like a teenager smoking a cigarette? "Don't try it kids. It's bad for you.". It's existence confuses me.
1. A Night At The Opera (1975) 4.5/5 2. Sheer Heart Attack (1974) 4.5/5 3. Queen (1973) 4/5 4. Queen II (1974) 4/5 5. News Of The World (1977) 3.5/5 6. The Game (1980) 3.5/5 7. A Day At The Races (1976) 3/5 8. Jazz (1978) 3/5 9. A Kind Of Magic (1986) 2/5 10. The Works (1984) 2/5 11. Innuendo (1991) 2/5 12. Made In Heaven (1995) 2/5 13. Hot Space (1982) 1.5/5 14. The Miracle (1989) 1.5/5 15. Flash Gordon (1980) 1/5 CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER: 4.0 Queen (1973) 4.0 Queen II (1974) 4.5 Sheer Heart Attack (1974) 4.5 A Night At The Opera (1975) 3.0 A Day At The Races (1976) 3.5 News Of The World (1977) 3.0 Jazz (1978) 3.5 The Game (1980) 1.0 Flash Gordon (1980) 1.5 Hot Space (1982) 2.0 The Works (1984) 2.0 A Kind Of Magic (1986) 1.5 The Miracle (1989) 2.0 Innuendo (1991) 2.0 Made In Heaven (1995) I love Queen but they're not really an albums band to me, at least not in the same way as most of the other big classic rock groups. Even their best studio releases have a little filler on them (and their worst ones are almost all filler.) On the other hand, their best songs are as memorable as rock music gets and their ability to hop between genres is truly remarkable. Queen's discography may be weaker than most bands of their stature but I think their peak performances are so epic it justifies the praise they get. MY RATING SYSTEM: 5.0 = major classic 4.5 = minor classic 4.0 = great 3.5 = very good 3.0 = good 2.5 = fair 2.0 = poor 1.5 = awful 1.0 = historically awful I don't go below 1 star because once I'm in the realm of the truly terrible I don't care to differentiate anymore. Anything I rate 3.5 stars or higher is an album I'm enthusiastic about and would likely revisit at some point.
Agree with you that Queen is not really a great "albums band". I think they released a ton of great singles, but, more often then not, I'd be happy listening to their greatest hits albums. I mentioned them on the "Bands with no 5-Star Albums" videos, and I stand by it. They have a few that are strong 4-stars, but there always seems to be at least one or two clunkers on all their albums that keep them from achieving greatness.
Gotta say I think your marks are harsh....as are JJKs....I disagree. I thought 10 of their albums were 4 stars above and i didn't get bored with those 10 or so pretty much all the way through....that is rare ...the jumpiness on albums works for me mostly and I was surprised I loved them as much as I did....
@@threestringsomg I could've given The Game another half-star except I don't care for pretty much the entire 2nd half of that album. I think it's got about 4 legitimately great songs on it (and those type of albums struggle to get to 4 stars in my book.) Remember, we're rating the entire album, not just the singles. If I were rating only the singles pretty much every '70s Queen album would get 5 stars. I just think their deep album tracks, on average, aren't as strong as many of the other famous classic rock bands.
Somebody to Love is their best song, because it actually has some sincere feeling, instead of just bombast. ADATR is probably their most under-rated album.
Excellent review. I really enjoyed it. I became a big fan of Queen when 'The Game' was released. From there, I bought all their older stuff. All the vinyl records from Queen I up until Hot Space. I did most of my listening to Queen in the 80's. My personal choice for No. 1 would be 'Night at the Opera' and like Jason, I was blown away by the Prophet's Song...so much so that I ended up preferring it to Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen II & I are also very much personal favourites.
I only know their first eight albums so I will only rank them. My list : 8. The Game 7. Jazz 6. Queen 5. A Day At The Races 4. News Of The World 3. Queen II 2. A Night At The Opera 1. Sheer Heart Attack
Quickfire Queen top 10 1. Night At The Opera 2. Sheer Heart Attack 3. News Of The World 4. Hot Space 5. Queen II 6. The Game 7. Day At The Races 8. Queen 9. Jazz 10. Innuendo
The first band I liked, and still one of my top 20 artists. Interesting to see you guys' take on them. 15) Flash Gordon 14) Made in Heaven 13) The Miracle 12) Innuendo 11) A Kind of Magic 10) The Works 9) Jazz 8) A Day at the Races 7) News of the World 6) The Game 5) Hot Space 4) A Night At the Opera 3) Sheer Heart Attack 2) Queen II 1) Queen
Nice to see Queen 1 in someone’s top spot. I have a feeling in the next few years it might overtake ANATO for me too. Couldn’t quite make the flip this time though. -Jason
@@TastesLikeMusic The order of their first 4 albums are almost interchangeable, and it was REALLY hard to choose. Any of them are an honorable #1. As for Hot Space, I was one of the Queen fans who didn’t understand the album…until I watched your original Queen video a while back. Watching that prompted me to give the album another try, and now I consider it to be one of their best!

This video was very entertaining and I expect Steely Dan to be great next week, but Jason has no idea how curious he's made me about a potential ELO Listography. At least eight great albums, he once said a few videos back?! In a row??!! Gotta revisit that catalog to see what he's talking about.

career rankings is difficult because the albums reflect a time, band development, band success, band members relationships, record label pressures so i can't do these - rank them with other releases in that year is a preference for ranking that i do
A really enjoyable watch. I would say that Queen are one of my top 20 bands For some reason, I "missed" the first three albums it got into them from Night at the Opera onwards So my top five right now would be 1 A Day at the Races 2 Night at the Opera 3 News of the World 4 The Game 5 The Works ( I think I seem to be the only person who likes this one) I am now away to get into the first three albums and that may well result in different ranking!

I'm old and a fan of Queen for a looong time. Really enjoyed your discussion and really pleased to see someone else 'like' Hot Space :) A Day at the Races is a better album for me than Night At ... but then I love Jazz :) !! Four very different personalities who could all create great music ..so albums may not seem coherent with their content but always enjoyable. i do miss their work.

The Listography boys might cry foul, but I believe I was once again able to overcome my personal tastes and evaluate this music objectively to some extent, based on its merits and how good I think it actually is as opposed to whether or not I would reach for it again. * Some might be surprised at my high placement of Flash Gordon. But for me, I was a fan of the movie when I was a kid. So hearing this soundtrack brought back warm and fuzzy memories. It's not something I'm likely to go back to though and the dialogue would probably become tedious upon repeated listens. * Jazz was the first album to contain what I consider to be less than good songs. * "The Invisible Man" smacks of The Ghostbusters theme. Not great. * If the band insisted on that album cover for The Miracle, I would have suggested they call the album something like "Together As One" which would make the whole thing a little less weird (in a bad way).
I heard a BBC concert by Queen, The only audience was the engineers and the BBC presenter plus the radio audience which included me and believe me it was listening to that that convinced me that Queen could out rock any other band that has ever existed and Kramzer is talking out of his arse with his opinion of Queen.
I totally agree with Joe about the narrow temporal window in which Queen produced its' quality LPs. They certainly were prolific during this period, after all they released their first three albums in a 17 month period in 1973-74 and then, like clockwork, an album per year until 1978 and Jazz. While I don't love all the albums in this period, I would argue that this was their peak in quality as well as quantity of music recorded. I am of an age where I was a contemporaneous consumer, if not a huge fan, of Queen's output starting with the debut. In that I was probably ahead of the curve as Queen didn't get really big or widely popular, at least in America until Night At The Opera and the Bohemian Rhapsody single in 1975 (the same events which would suck in two different generations of fans, first after Wayne's World and then after the Mercury biopic movie). I saw the band twice, first during the Day At The Races tour in January 1977 at the Richfield (Cleveland) Coliseum, and then the Jazz tour show this time at the Capital Centre in suburban D.C. in November 1978 a couple of weeks before the release of Jazz, but after the Bicycle Race/Fat Bottomed Girls single had hit the airwaves. The former leaned heavily into the early material including deep cuts while the latter was more of a greatest hits show, basically the same thing released on Live Killers. While the shows were great, they were somewhat marred by heavy use of tape loops providing overdubs and occasionally whole sections of songs, e.g. Bohemian Rhapsody, sounds which I guess they could not replicate live. Their stuff beyond the Game is pretty bad, largely self-indulgent and boringly repetitive On balance I would say that Queen was good to very good, but inferior to a lot of acts occupying the same niches within the popular/rock music of the day, but would somewhat comfortably reside within my top 50-60. Now the list: 1. A Night At The Opera 2. Queen (the debut) 3. A Day At The Races 4. Sheer Heart Attack 5. The Game 6. Queen II 7. Jazz 8. News Of The World (tainted, irrevocably, by We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions) 9. The Works 10. Made In Heaven 11. Innuendo 12. A Kind Of Magic 13. Hot Space 14. The Miracle 15. Flash Gordon Great job guys. I really enjoyed the discourse.
Great discussion, guys! Queen were the first band I ever got completely into, bought their entire catalogue up until '82 when Hot Space killed them off for me. From then on they still wrote some great songs, but never recovered their previous heights. I have a few distinct groups of albums in my ranking, within each the order might change day to day: Level 5 (1-2 stars): Flash Gordon/The Miracle/A Kind of Magic/Hot Space Level 4 (2.5 stars): Made in Heaven Level 3 (3 stars): The Works/The Game/News of the World/Queen/Innuendo Level 2 (4 stars): Jazz/A Night at the Opera Level 1 (5 stars): A Day at the Races/Queen II/Sheer Heart Attack
I never got into the first two albums and I’ve grown weary of the last two, so here’s my Top Ten: 10. The Miracle 9. A Kind of Magic 8. A Night at the Opera 7. A Day at the Races 6. The Game 5. The Works 4. News of the World 3. Sheer Heart Attack 2. Hot Space (completely overlooked) 1. JAZZ (it’s got something for every taste)

@@RostyslavLogachov If you do I think you will move it up higher in your ranking. It’s way better than Made In Heaven, so is Innuendo, most Queen fans would agree, it’s usually rated top 5 on most lists, clearly the best post 1980 Queen album for me, so not sure what Jason and Joe are on about here but as I already said, each to their own
My rankings only go 1-11. I have not yet listened to their last five albums. I expect them to slot near the bottom of the rankings, but we'll see. If I have time to finish the assignment, I'll update tomorrow. Until then, here are my rankings with star ratings: 1. A Night at the Opera 4 stars 2. Queen 3.5 stars 3. News of the World 3 stars 4. Sheer Heart Attack 3 stars 5. Jazz 3 stars 6. The Game 2 .5 stars 7. Hot Space 2 stars 8. The Works 2 stars 9. Queen II 2 stars 10. A Day at the Races 1 star 11. Flash Gordon 0 stars Tomorrow's video will be much more fun. I have always found Queen to be a band with a lot of great, great songs, but few good records and no great records. I can remember the first time I heard Bohemian Rhapsody, and it totally blew my mind. I went out the next day and bought A Night at the Opera, and pretty much enjoyed most of it. But everything since that time has been a disappointment. A Day at the Races was a Tormato/Love Beach level disappointment. Others less so (except Flash Gordon, which is wholly unlistenable).

A Day At The Races 3. Queen 2. Sheer Heart Attack 1. Queen II Mind, I don’t think ANY of ‘em is bad!!! I put The Works as last, because I feel it’s a very calculated attempt at recreating The Game after they fell out of favour for many with Hot Space, which I think is daring, a lot of fun and a lot better than most give it credit for. They kept on making great albums afterwards, but their sense of adventure was basically gone. Anyway, thanks for the awesome video. I’m off work tonight, so I’m gonna pop the first six albums in my 6-cd-changer tonight! Rock on! 👍
I'm going to force myself to listen to a full Queen album, which I have never attempted. I like their hits despite the overplay, but I'm not the biggest fan of Queen overall. I've always felt that the amount I hear them on the radio is more than enough. I guess Queen II will be the test. Edit: I think you have to put this album in its time, and say that it was something of an achievement for 1974. The second half of the songs are definitely considerably better than the first half. After listening to Some Day One Day (a completely forgettable ballad), I was wondering whether I was going to make it. But beginning with Nevermore, the album really picks up steam. The March of the Black Queen is a pretty rocking song. I'm not in love with Funny How Love Is, but at least it's different than a lot of seventies love ballads. The songwriting isn't great throughout, but the sonic layering is pretty great. I think I'd give this album 3.9 stars overall, and that's pretty good considering that I'd give the lyrics no more than 2 stars. Queen didn't have much to say, but they said nothing pretty beautifully. I'm hyped to listen to Steely Dan next week - one of the best bands (with session players, of course) of all time IMHO.
First time hearing you guys - and I think to give a good ranking to any album by anybody you need more context. Example: MAGIC was the sound track unofficially because they first did the soundtrack then made those soundtracks into full songs so it wouldn’t be like FLASH. You also can’t ignore that for many of QUEEN albums like FLASH what they did was ground breaking for the time. What continues to impress me (born in 1960) is how many people younger than I am continue to listen and discover them. While I loved them in the 70s and 80s they were not my favorite back then - I was a huge Journey Aerosmith Kenny Loggins etc fan - and while I still like listening to those old favorites it is a completely different experience compared to listening to QUEEN - I can still discover things on QUEEN albums while I cannot listen to the old favorites often. I can listen to QUREN albums like I used to listen to the radio - one after another and never tire of them. Even the greatest hits - while I won’t play them on purpose when they come up on an album I still enjoy them. Thanks for the podcast - while I don’t agree with you guys you helped me clarify my opinions and I enjoyed listening to you and will check out other episodes.
Queen is my favorite band of all time. A close second is the Smashing Pumpkins for me. Was finally able to finish listening to all of their albums. Here's my ranking. Innuendo I've only heard once and it could go even higher for me. I love it and it's a borderline masterpiece in my opinion. Very close between #1 and 2 for me. Both are absolutely amazing, but my top 6 or 7 are all masterclass. 1. Queen II (5 stars) 2. A Day at the Races (5 stars) 3. The Game (5 stars) 4. A Night at the Opera (5 stars) 5. My fav is The Game. This was my first Queen album that I purchased back in August of 1980. So it holds a special place to me. I bought Emotional Rescue and The Game and all 8 Zeppelin studio albums on the same day in August of 80 and those albums changed my life. Became a huge zeppelin fan/collector and a huge Stones fan. Great channel guys! ✌️
Love love love Queen II. It was a weird strange little record and one of my first major musical loves. I thought for years it was just me that liked this album 😄

Hey Joe, the opening was very impressive indeed. I'm not a huge Queen fan but, I think they are most definitely a very talented band. For me, they're a one-decade band, mainly the 1970s w/a couple of exceptions in the 1980s. So, here's my Queen album ranking from best to worst: 1. The Game (I love most of the songs on this album.) 2. A Day at the Races (Take My Breath Away, Tie Your Mother Down & Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy are superb songs.) 3. Queen II (Better than Queen I) 4. News of the World (It sounds like an album that's a bit disorganized, but the good songs are really good.) 5. Queen I (A decent debut w/some decent songs.) 6. Hot Space (I don't think it's the worst Queen album ever so sue me!) 7. Sheer Heart Attack (Has peaks and valleys) 8. A Night at the Opera (Except for 39, I can't get into this album at all. And I've tried, several times.) 9. Jazz (It's one gigantic, unorganized mess!)
Owned Greatest Hits when I was a younger lad in the early 80s. So those 14 songs probably will make up most of my top ten songs list. I like their hits, but have never liked them enough to listen to a full album. That is still the case. So I am unqualified to offer any objective comments on their discography. I'm okay with that.
@@threestringsomg I appreciate your confidence, but no. Queen as a peripheral presence in my life suits me fine. If they come on the radio, I will listen, but I am not seeking them out.
@@burmajones803 ah well....then are you going to do the Listography discography challenges or not? I try not to pick and choose and allow for some open mindedness....the boys have done well and thrown some cool curve balls the audience's way....but then I'm up for listening to anything at least once
@@threestringsomg I enjoy listening to the Listography trio share their opinions and I like to leave comments, but I don't have the time to partake fully of most of the discographies they cover. I'll entertain Steely Dan song suggestions next week, but Queen's resurgence in popularity baffles me so I am mostly uninterested in hearing any more of them than I already know. It's gotta be the biopic and the continuing popularity of Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions in the popular culture that keeps them alive. Like I said above, their hits are fine with me, but not good enough to make me want more of them.
@@threestringsomg I listened to Supergrass because of this channel. And revisited Dwight Yoakam and discovered some of his albums I hadn't heard because of the guys. There have been other artists I've listened to because of this channel: Madonna, Lady Gaga are two that come to mind, but classic rock bands mostly don't interest me. I grew up listening to way too much of them on the radio.
For what it's worth this is my Top 15, which may completely change by this time next week, well Hot Space will always be bottom :) 1 A Day at the Races 2 Queen 2 3 Sheer Heart Attack 4 Night at The Opera 5 The Works 6 Innuendo 7 Made In Heaven 8 A Kind of Magic 9 The Game 10 Queen 11 The Miracle 12 News of the World 13 Jazz 14 Flash Gordon 15 Hot Space
My relationship with Queen is fairly spotty. I got into the first Queen album very heavily when it came out in early 1973.They struck me like Zeppelin with a better singer. I loved Queen II when it came out - played it into the ground practically. Then came Sheer Heart Attack, and I sort of fell off the Queen Train (I liked side one, hated side two). But after this discussion, I think it might be interesting to revisit them and see what I think after all these years. Great discussion!
Wondered if you guys like dream theater maybe (you probably don't) But if by any chance at least one of you enjoys their music would love a ranking of their albums or a top 10 songs show.
The best band I have ever seen live. No question.
Its awesome that you let the audience know that Steely Dan is coming up next week in the description, now i can refamiliarize myself with the albums and follow along better with my own thoughts on the discography! Nice - Keep these coming, awesome channel as always
The love for Queen 2 is well deserved. My favorite. Love the commentary. 👍

Im a GenXer (born ‘67) and I learned about Queen when I was in 7th grade. Another Bites the Dust was big. When I was in college I became a bigger Queen fan. Advice: Don't rank James Brown albums.
... forgot to add, love the way that at any point in your rankings videos I can read and see what album you are talking about.
Thanks!
Martin you don’t know what the heck you’re talking about if that’s your takeaway. - Joe
Yes that's something I thought too...Mott Hoople, Free and dare I say The Beach Boys....and of course the Beatles. Good point 👍
Cheers.

I agree, those type of songs, lazing On A Sunday, Seaside, Leroy Brown is what made Queen special. Basic ACDC, Kiss type of rock fans don't get it.
Nope, strong disagree. Great album with good filler but lots of filler nontheless. That's the whole thing with Queen, 4 different songwriters with unique voices with no central authority/ego controlling the output. All of their albums have filler because of the free-wheeling nature of how they organized the band.
@@Jaggedknife11
Nah, .
These jokers simply don’t appreciate early Queen enough!
It doesn't help that the only thing promoted are the hits. Real shame, as the hits are the least interesting work.
@@matthewdean2669 I also love the debut. And "Keep Yourself Alive" is on my Greatest Hits album. (I think US version, with photo of band). Cheers!
I really Like 5 Queen Albums, to be Honest Queen was a Band I never Liked back then.
5 - A Night at the Opera
4 - A Day at the Races
3 - Sheer Heart Attack
2 - Queen II
1 - Queen
The First Album really got Me into Queen.
Almost snap!🤠🤠🤠🤠🤘we have same order....apart top 2 though sounds like I like them more....at least you rated the best 5👍
That looks very similar to my list. Early Queen is best.
1. Innuendo
2. A Day At The Races
3. The Game
4. The Works
5. The Miracle
6. News Of The World
7. A Night At The Opera
8. Sheer Heart Attack
9. Queen II
10. Hot Space
11. Queen
12. A Kind Of Magic
13. Made In Heaven
14. Jazz
BEST concert ever.
you are so lucky to have seen them!! My biggest regret, also, never seeing Prince!
Price would have been amazing too. My girlfriend at the time had a crush on Price but we were never able to make it to a concert . @@barbywithaWHY
Red Greatest Hits? That's the Beatles 😂
@@Liam123-r8o not sure why I said red but I meant the maroon one...
@@Vanessa.P just kiddin. It is kinda red. Maroon is more correct.🙂
Hard to listen a more impressive and stronger initial 5-round than Queen's. Queen II is definitely, and by a far, my favorite.
Would love to see a Teenage Fanclub listography.
In my opinion it has a sense to listen just the first seven albums and the ranking is following:
1. Queen
2. Sheer heart attack
3. A night at the opera
4. Queen II
5. News of the world
6. A day at the races
7. Jazz
Enjoy listening to these albums😉
Finally a list which makes sense
I love Queen and, as most fans, I tend to prefer their 70s output most of the time - it's nearly flawless for me, add to it The Game (a kickass record!). They kind of lost something in the 80s, but I still like those albums for their fun, feel-good, pop songwriting. Glad to see this much love for Queen II - an underrated gem.
Queen 2 all the way for me. The “Black Side” is possibly the best side of an album ever (in my humble opinion 😆)
It’s up there for me, too. - Joe
What do you think about side 2 of Magical Mystery Tour as a candidate for best side of all time.
@@chargree
Thats kinda cheating though because they're all singles
@@Jekkyboi no way man!! It is a very common practice to include singles on albums. The fact that the Beatles only did it on soundtracks, typically, should not be held against only them.
@@chargree
I agree, and i fucking love it.

My ranking always changes depending on the day, but always the 70s albums are in the Top 5.
- Joe
Actually Queen II is regarded highly by many queen fans. Billy Corgan loves it as well.
It's one of Axl Rose's favorite albums among with Something by Todd Rundgren, Louder than Love and Never Mind the Bollocks. I heard an interview with Axl from '87 talking about Queen II and he has also frequently mentioned A Night at the Opera as a huge influence on him.
Just found you fellas . Good knowledge !
This is the first week that I tried to follow along. Unfortunately, I didn't get much out of the first four albums at all so I had to quit but I'm gonna listen to Steely Dan for sure.
Queen II for me. It's the album that people who don't like Queen should give a few spins before they write off the band completely.
Wow! Did you see them live Jack?

Queen did not only produce great albums , they were absolutely fantastic live. You only need to watch their Live Aid performance to see what they could do. Their Live Killers album is one of my favourites. I do agree that they guilty of writing some duff tracks but a Bohemian Rhapsody and Somebody to Love are just brilliant. I disagree about Tie your mother down, it is one on my top ten tracks and I was surprised no one mentioned the Stunning Now I’m Here…makes me feel alive every time I play it.

Fantastic week, fellas. Listo 4ever 🎉🎵
great selection. your three top albums display the views of many. QII is my fave ...
Well done guys...early Queen is great! Enjoyed this!
This is the one list that I’ve dreaded since subscribing. I’m one of a very rare breed here in the U.K. who just never got it when it comes to Freddie and co. For years I’ve had to smile inanely and nod my head when everyone I know tells me they’re the greatest band ever. They’re not (there, said it, feels good)
Roll on Steely Dan 👏
Well, thanks for at least stopping by and dropping us comment.
Steely Dan...snooze fest! same as Wilco....big yawns!! but I'm a drama teacher so I like theatrical stuff....Roll on David Bowie!!
I'd say Queen are loved in the UK but I've never heard anybody say they're the greatest band ever
Now that is true...they have said that Freddie was the greatest voice/performer though....many times
Top 10
best band ever!!!!
I think they're the greatest band ever - and I'm from the UK
Greatest band ever!!
I’m British, so I obviously love Queen. I grew up in the 70s and there was very few good quality rock songs on the radio. Queen was one of them. They were also great live. Problem is though most albums are Jekyll & Hyde. Some really good stuff mixed with disposable rubbish. My top 5 studio albums:
5. Innuendo
4. The Game
3. Jazz
2. Night at the Opera
1. News of the World
However my actual favourites are Live Killers & Greatest Hits.
I love seeing News of the World at #1!
I'm Australian, but I don't like Midnight Oil!

Now THAT’s a different list!
I can follow you until The Game’s ranking (yes, even Hot Space!), but above that it gets interesting, but really cool!

Agreed Jason - Don't Try Suicide is weak.
Yeah, I don't quite know how to take that song. Is it satirical? Is it the world's worst advice to people suffering from depression? Does Freddie think suicide is like a teenager smoking a cigarette? "Don't try it kids. It's bad for you.". It's existence confuses me.

I love Queen but they're not really an albums band to me, at least not in the same way as most of the other big classic rock groups.
MY RATING SYSTEM:
5.0 = major classic
4.5 = minor classic
4.0 = great
3.5 = very good
3.0 = good
2.5 = fair
2.0 = poor
1.5 = awful
1.0 = historically awful
I don't go below 1 star because once I'm in the realm of the truly terrible I don't care to differentiate anymore.
@@edgustafson I agree with all that. Queen's 5 star albums are their greatest hits collections.
That's a pretty good description of Queen you wrote there. My thoughts are pretty much the same.
Enjoyed the. Video and I must agree with Jason hot space is one of my favourite of their later albums with cool cat being my favourite queen song.
I love the falsetto from Freddie on 'Cool Cat'.

This video was very entertaining and I expect Steely Dan to be great next week, but Jason has no idea how curious he's made me about a potential ELO Listography. At least eight great albums, he once said a few videos back?! In a row??!! Gotta revisit that catalog to see what he's talking about.

Queen II is what "opened my ears" to the band, after years of the Day/Night... and then revisiting Queen I, they became an essential rotation Rock.
career rankings is difficult because the albums reflect a time, band development, band success, band members relationships, record label pressures so i can't do these - rank them with other releases in that year is a preference for ranking that i do
Check out their 'Album of the Year' videos if you haven't watched them yet.
A really enjoyable watch.
I would say that Queen are one of my top 20 bands
For some reason, I "missed" the first three albums it got into them from Night at the Opera onwards
So my top five right now would be
1 A Day at the Races
2 Night at the Opera
3 News of the World
4 The Game
5 The Works ( I think I seem to be the only person who likes this one)
I am now away to get into the first three albums and that may well result in different ranking!
1. Queen 2
2. News Of The World
3. Sheer Heart Attack
4. Queen
5. A Night At The Opera
6. Innuendo
7. Jazz
8. A Day At The Races
9. Made In Heaven
10. The Game
11. A Kind Of Magic
12. The Works
13. The Miracle
14. Flash Gordon
15. Hot Space
I love Jazz mostly because it's called "Jazz" but has absolutely no actual jazz on it.
You’ll also love “More songs about buildings and food” then. Or “Pet Sounds”.
That's one of the reasons I don't like it. I think they should have called it Rap.
I believe the term "Jazz" comes from "all of that jazz". The album being all of it. Hence "More of That Jazz".
I'm old and a fan of Queen for a looong time. Really enjoyed your discussion and really pleased to see someone else 'like' Hot Space :) A Day at the Races is a better album for me than Night At ... but then I love Jazz :) !! Four very different personalities who could all create great music ..so albums may not seem coherent with their content but always enjoyable. i do miss their work.

notes:
* Not my favorite band and I'm still not really a fan but the incredible talent here cannot be denied.
Made in Heaven at 4 stars. Now you’re talking. - Joe
@@TastesLikeMusic I almost made Queen I and Queen II a tie but I figured that was against Listography rules lol
Now the list:
1. A Night At The Opera
2. Queen (the debut)
3. A Day At The Races
4. Sheer Heart Attack
5. The Game
6. Queen II
7. Jazz
8. News Of The World (tainted, irrevocably, by We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions)

12. A Kind Of Magic
13. Hot Space
14. The Miracle
15. Flash Gordon
Great job guys. I really enjoyed the discourse.
Great discussion, guys!
Queen were the first band I ever got completely into, bought their entire catalogue up until '82 when Hot Space killed them off for me. From then on they still wrote some great songs, but never recovered their previous heights.
I have a few distinct groups of albums in my ranking, within each the order might change day to day:
Level 5 (1-2 stars): Flash Gordon/The Miracle/A Kind of Magic/Hot Space
Level 4 (2.5 stars): Made in Heaven
Level 3 (3 stars): The Works/The Game/News of the World/Queen/Innuendo
Level 2 (4 stars): Jazz/A Night at the Opera
Level 1 (5 stars): A Day at the Races/Queen II/Sheer Heart Attack
5. Queen II
4. Queen
3. A Day at the Races
News of the World and Sheer Heart Attack are interchangeable between 1 and 2 depending on the day for me.
The first 8 are awesome. Everything else I don't give a crap about. Also congrats on 6K!

Made in Heaven in front of The Game? I can’t stop laughing
@@JCStorm76 It's a weak album besides "Sail Away Sweet Sister", "Play The Game" and "Save Me" which are amzing.
@@RostyslavLogachov I don’t agree, many other good songs, one of their best albums, but each to their own
@@JCStorm76 I should spend more time with this album
@@RostyslavLogachov If you do I think you will move it up higher in your ranking. It’s way better than Made In Heaven, so is Innuendo, most Queen fans would agree, it’s usually rated top 5 on most lists, clearly the best post 1980 Queen album for me, so not sure what Jason and Joe are on about here but as I already said, each to their own
My rankings only go 1-11. I have not yet listened to their last five albums. I expect them to slot near the bottom of the rankings, but we'll see. If I have time to finish the assignment, I'll update tomorrow. Until then, here are my rankings with star ratings:
1. A Night at the Opera 4 stars
2. Queen 3.5 stars
3. News of the World 3 stars
4. Sheer Heart Attack 3 stars
5. Jazz 3 stars
6. The Game 2 .5 stars

10. A Day at the Races 1 star

Tomorrow's video will be much more fun.
I'm a bit confused because the star ratings are mixed up it looks like.

Mind, I don’t think ANY of ‘em is bad!!!
Rock on! 👍
Remaster the Elvis Costello video!
I love too this music hall artists, can someone recommend me another one?

My order 1. Queen II 2. NatOpera 3. A Day at the Races 4. Sheer Heart Attack 5. Jazz
There's another song on Flash Gordon: The Hero.
The Works is from 1984
I'm going to force myself to listen to a full Queen album, which I have never attempted.
Please report back.
Most appreciated. - Joe
Sheer Heart Attack is my favorite Queen Lp with Queen ll, Night at the Opera, News of The World and Day at the Races rounding out my top 5
Commenting early in the video because I'm hoping Jason will rank Sheer Heart Attack higher than his previous Queen ranking

You’re not alone, Chris!!! - Joe
Queen II took me a good few listens but then it suddenly clicked for me. The black side is a Freddie masterpiece.
As their 80's output grates on me a bit, I only have their 70's records and Innuendo:

Hey Joe, the opening was very impressive indeed. I'm not a huge Queen fan but, I think they are most definitely a very talented band. For me, they're a one-decade band, mainly the 1970s w/a couple of exceptions in the 1980s. So, here's my Queen album ranking from best to worst:
1. The Game (I love most of the songs on this album.)
2. A Day at the Races (Take My Breath Away, Tie Your Mother Down & Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy are superb songs.)
3. Queen II (Better than Queen I)
4. News of the World (It sounds like an album that's a bit disorganized, but the good songs are really good.)
5. Queen I (A decent debut w/some decent songs.)
6. Hot Space (I don't think it's the worst Queen album ever so sue me!)
7. Sheer Heart Attack (Has peaks and valleys)
8. A Night at the Opera (Except for 39, I can't get into this album at all. And I've tried, several times.)
Go listen to my top 10. You will change your mind....at least a little
@@threestringsomg I appreciate your confidence, but no.
For what it's worth this is my Top 15, which may completely change by this time next week, well Hot Space will always be bottom :)

Wondered if you guys like dream theater maybe (you probably don't)
But if by any chance at least one of you enjoys their music would love a ranking of their albums or a top 10 songs show.
