EDITS FOR SILLY MISTAKES: SLIP #1, "juliet letters" is 20 tracks long and not 20 minutes long LOL SLIP #2: Ross McManus was Elvis' father (not Presley) LOL
Hi Lloyd, I’ve watched this 3 times now! I really enjoyed your run down. Lots I agreed with and your two titbits were great. Elvis’s Dad also appeared on a really famous TV advert back in the day. It was an ad for R Whites Lemonade. He sang on it, and it appeared for years on UK TV. Great honest story when you met him. Your top 2 were a shock, but I must say, I’m not a country fan BUT, for some reason I’ve always lived Almost Blue. I got it when it came out, and a TV docu was put out at the same time following him and the band and watching them make the album in Nashville. Brilliant album. But my number 1 by far, and has been for ever is My Aim Is True. I think the intimate production is superb and the songs are great. You put a lot of work into this Lloyd and it shows, well done my friend! Mike
Hi Mike, WOW, three times, you must not have a life mate LOL. i have never seen that doco you talked about, i was hoping there would have been a 40th anniversary edition of the album with the doco as a bonus but EC doesnt tend to do those anniversary editions sadly. i agree with your comment about the production, not sure whether i mentioned it in the video but i find his production on all of his albums to be first class without fail. thanks for the kind, positive words also, have a great week Mike - regards Lloyd
Hi Rob, would have been an experience seeing him in his 'youthful prime' for sure, like i said, the last time i saw him was around the time of "delivery man" and he was still really good then also - Lloyd
hey! wow- I'm a big fan and your show here introduced me to 3 records that had no idea even existed- EC has so many many records and songs- an endless catalog- I can see why it took you so long to compile your list - a very brave list too- mine would have been very different, but good you did a nice job - I appreciate the survey- good work pal!
Hi Mark, thank you, i dont think people realise just how many records or even how eclectic Costello has been over the decades as most really only know him for probably Olivers Army, would love to know what your favourite albums are or have been over the years. - Lloyd
Hi mate, i think most people would agree with your opinion of Get Happy but 7.5/10 isnt a bad score by any means on my part, thanks for watching and commenting - Lloyd
Loved, tho disagree vehemently on Get Happy!! at 20 It’s my all time favorite album…but Almost Blue and KOA are in my top five. Great stuff, enjoyed the list and the stories!!
hi mate, so glad you rate Almost Blue so highly. sorry about Get Happy, but i guess EC's catalogue is so big that its easy for albums to end up lower than expected, thanks for watching - Lloyd
Thanks for this and all the memories it has brought back. I think I would have put This Year’s Model at the top followed by Armed Forces, My Aim Is True and Get Happy then King of America. In the UK we had a cassette compilation 10 Bloody Marys and How’s Your Fathers which would come after that. I think Just A Memory from that one is my favourite Elvis Costello track. I agree that Indoor Fireworks is excellent and one of his best ever.
Hi mate, thanks for watching and commenting, i appreciate ALL input. i wouldnt argue with any of your selections because it is Elvis Costello LOL. have a great week mate - Lloyd
I really enjoyed this video, you've got a really good, self deprecating style but clealy know what you are talking about. It was good to get a full retrospective as, even though I'm a lifelong EC fan, I've seen him over 20 times since 1980, I've kind of lost touch in the past decade or so. It's all a matter of personal taste and some records mean more because they meant something at the time you first heard them, I'm like that about Get Happy!! for example, which I'd have in the top 5 easily. Great work and thanks for making the effort to share your thoughts.
Yep totally agree with your top 5 including almost blue. Maybe painted from memory could have been a bit higher but a great list which I thoroughly enjoyed watching!
Great work Lloyd. I consider myself a big Costello fan and yet there are quite a few records (Juliet Letters, North,) here I've never heard and am not that interested in. My favourite of his is King of America, also a top 10 record for me by any artist. I also really love Mighty Like a Rose. I do think he's had a bit of an artistic renaissance in recent times. He was a bit of a punk rocker at heart but he's got his muso side, and that doesn't always quite work for me. Funnily enough I'm not that fussed about his collaborations, I'd rather take him on his own preferably with The Attractions. Amazing that you got to meet him and would love to hear the full-blown Paul Weller/Tim Finn/Gene Simmons stories also!. Cheers, James
Hi James, thanks for the kind words mate, always appreciate what you have to say in regards to music. im glad you love King Of America which incidently was unlucky not to make my #1. have a great weekend mate, i wont because we are in the middle of a late summer heatwave 40C+ temps for the next four days - Lloyd
Brilliant video, Lloyd. It wouldn't be a "Lloyd Boon" video without a few surprises lol. The main one is Get Happy being so low. I must admit I lost a bit of interest after Brutal Youth but did continue to buy a few more of his releases but not giving them the attention they really deserve. So, I'll defintely give When I Was Cruel and especially The Delivery Man another go!
Hi Richard, like i said, 'a monumental task', i was surprised by Get Happy also but i can only call it as i hear it. i think Delivery Man especially is worth a revisit for sure. thanks for the shout out and your kind words again - Lloyd
OMG you almost lost me with Get Happy, That is top 3 for me. Funny story re Brothers In Arms 😁 He always comes across to me as a bit of a wanker whenever I hear him speak, I may have to reconsider. also enjoyed his TV series Spectacle: Elvis Costello with.... And yes it your opinion and good on you for doing these rankings, apart from Get Happy😁
Hi Phillip, i think most people would think the same as you with "get happy" but he has so many albums that there is always an album for everyone like Dylan i suppose. yes, he does come across as a bit of a wanker but not when i met him, "spectacle" was fabulous IMO also - Lloyd
Man, ballsy choice to pick Almost Blue as your #1. I like Almost Blue, but I lean more towards Kojak Variety as far as Elvis cover albums go. Anyway, my top 11 as of now are down below. Why top 11? Simple. ‘Cause this list goes to 11! Cheers! 1. Get Happy!! 2. Imperial Bedroom 3. Blood & Chocolate 4. Trust 5. My Aim is True 6. Mighty Like a Rose 7. Brutal Youth 8. This Year’s Model 9. Goodbye Cruel World 10. Kojak Variety 11. All This Useless Beauty
Hi Paul, i just like what i like LOL. good list mate, pretty hard to criticise any of his albums for the most part, a solid artist and great to see and hear so many people are still fans of more than his so called classic years - Lloyd
Odd that you would choose a covers album as your favourite album by such an original, prolific and brilliant songwriter. Each to their own. I would put King of America at number one, Imperial Bedroom at number two, and My Aim Is True at number three - or perhaps the cruelly underrated Trust. A songwriting colossus.
Hi Jason, normally covers album would rank extremely low for me in any artists' catalogue but i think Mr McManus did an exceptional job with that album. King Of America was a close second for me and Trust rounded out my top 5, still love Imperial Bedroom even though it appeared fairly low in the list, i think growing up in the era of post-punk/new wave i was extremely lucky to see the emergence of several of the greatest songwriters from the UK (Costello, Weller, Sting and Knopfler), thanks for watching and commenting - Lloyd
Trust is my #1, but Get Happy is just so damn great, I can't believe it. I like bits and pieces here and there .I find it hard to sit through an entire album .
Hi mate, yeah "trust" is such a cool album, even though "get happy" seemed awfully low on my list i still really like it, thanks for watching and commenting - Lloyd

Wow, Elvis really has been putting out some hideous album covers lately, hasn’t he? Get Happy!! would be my #1, and Imperial Bedroom would be right up there too. I would also rank Brutal Youth and All This Useless Beauty much higher. Must confess I’ve never even owned Almost Blue! Great tidbits.
Hi Michael, thanks for watching and commenting, yeah his more recent covers are not great at all, if i had to pick my favourite album cover off the top of my head i would say either "national ransom" or "armed forces" would be right up there. have a great day - Lloyd
I thought Brutal Youth was way too high and then I saw Mighty Like A Rose.... :-) Would put Spike last. For some reason I detest that record. Imperial Bedrooms would be my #1
Hi mate, thanks for your input, im glad your favourite album was not one of the usual suspects ie: one of the first four albums but something different, thanks for watching - Lloyd
@@LloydBoonworldofmusic2 I didn't think that myself. Too many think Elvis took off in the early 80s with his more sophisticated and 'crooner records' and would add one or more of the crooner records to the top 4. I don't know a fan in the world who has my short list ha.
