In the late eighties I first became aware of Cutty Ranks when I saw a video of him as a newcomer performing live on Stereo Mars. I told my bredrens at the time that this youth will be the real deal as we move in to the nineties and I he has vindicated my prediction made back then. The Cutter is a very clever and gifted wordsmith who could still show some of these younger disrespectful pups a thing or two when it comes to lyrical creativity and inventiveness. I have to give maximum Respect and Honour to Wayne Lonesome for putting out this interview with the great Cutty Ranks and I like the way the Cutter articulates his points about this apparent disrespect from a generation of mic chanters who, as he rightly pointed out, paved the way for them to have a career in dancehall music. The Cutter has proven beyond all doubt that his lyrics are still as sharp and incisive as his butcher's knife 🗡
