    I put strong flat magnets behind each of my drawers so when I close it, it shuts hard. There's enough clearance between the back of the drawer and the back of the cart that the other side of the magnet doesn't actually contact it but its magnetic pull does.

      Usually it was because his directions were vague and both him and his dad owned the business and often times his dad would tell me to do something one way and then he'd be pissed that I did it that way and want it redone the opposite way. And my name is Jared too which makes this even better.

    I used the US General magnet strips but I mounted them with 3M command straps rated for 16lbs because I definitely didn't want to drill into the lid. I have 4 strips that hold my ratcheting wrenches so I could have 2 points of contact for the SAE and Metric sets

    If you dont want to buy the shelf, my dad made his out of a flat cookie sheet. I didnt have one of those so I used a big 24x12 or so size baking pan painted black. Looks better than it sounds. And now I have a 2" deep lip around my side shelf to hold everything. Used some west coast mirror supports. Loaded it full of air tools and nothing will slide off it like the flat shelf.

    As for magnets all you need to do is get the cheap Harbor Freight ones put them back-to-back and bolt them together that way they become magnetic on both sides so you can hang it up and hang your tools on it they are cheap enough you can buy tons of them

  • @wb1453
    @wb1453 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bring It Muscle Cars I got a snap on tool cart. I out grew my HF cart. I made mods to the HB cart and really liked it but Needed way more room. I had flat magnetic panels on the lid and placed my wrenches on the lid. And another flat magnetic panel on the tray so bolts and tools wouldn’t roll off etc. But the extra room helps a lot more. 👍🏽

    A good mod is to take the “magnetic tool holder” Harbor Freight sells or sometimes give away for free, and drill the holes on the sides of the magnetic tool holder just a little larger. The holes line up perfectly with where the handle bolts to the cart

    • @driftpunk697
      @driftpunk697 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's also perfect distance to attach with the stock bolts vertically along the front rails (bottom of the 2 top holes to the hole for the front drawer support bolts)

    I have the 4 drawer cart. I roll it from my shed to my driveway through grass, so I upgraded the wheels to larger/rubber wheels. I added the HF magnet bars screwed through the lid to hold my wrenches. I also added the side tray & magnetic blocks to keep the tray from banging while going through the grass.
    I'm definitely interested in the magnetic socket holders. That's one of the main issues I still have with my cart going through grass.
    I also may look into expanding the wheel base because with the higher center of gravity due to the new wheels - it can get interesting when I hit a big bump in the yard lol.

    I had some 3/4 Partical Board that I cut to fit the top of the lid. You could use epoxy to fasten it but I drilled thru both wood and the lid. T-nuts on the top side (recessed) and bolted from the inside. If concerned about rust, you could use silicone around the drilled holes in the top. The wood has a 45 degree bevel to reduce chipping. I used a whole can of urathane to seal the wood top. You could do the same on the side tray to make it more solid.

    I've kinda wanted that toolcart for awhile now..the price makes it hard to resist..instead tho..i bought a craftsman 40 inch bottom section..its heavier for just a toolcart..but has drawers all the way down...When im pulling something apart..i utilize the lower drawers for the items im removing if its a longterm repair..keeping the parts out of the environment or falling and never to be seen again lol..plus the top makes for a convenient work surface . I still want the toolcart..even tho it makes more sense to go the route i did lol

      chris sterling if you have more tools I could see going with the tool box instead. I would suggest getting a small to shelf cart to keep items together on a longer term project. It has worked well for me. Thanks for watching and commenting.
