We need uniquely futuristic building designs which are going to still be relevant fifty years from now.
Repetition is a very efficient and cost-effective design which is important when there's not much space and money. The cities you mentioned all have buildings like that too but with a few buildings that are uniquely designed/shaped just like in Manila. Have you seen HDB apartments in Singapore? All the units are the same shape and size to keep costs down.
