I'm honestly not surprised that the sun gear failed. there's a heck of a lot more stress on all of the components when the diff is locked then when it has fluid in it. This could also explain the excessive wear in the drive cups.
@@earlmoorhead5555 because the differential normally allows energy to be bled off from one side to the other and that energy can no longer go anywhere. It's kind of like not having a center differential and having a locked slipper clutch. Parts are going to break.
Do RC yes you’re right bleed off to a wheel that In The air then the wheel diffs out and all that power is applied to that one wheel hitting the ground so in my option locking a differential even out the load and save parts specially when you run a center differential??? Does that make sense ? 🤔🤔🤔

@@earlmoorhead5555 the center diff bleeds off energy by transferring it to the front or rear depending on which one has less grip. This is why you dont see slipper clutches on rcs with center diffs. The center diff takes the place of the slipper clutch. For instance if you jump and land with the power on either the front or rear wheels will hit first. That shock is then transferred through the center diff to the wheels with less grip bleeding that energy off and saving the driveline.

Thank's Earle I experienced the same issue on my 6s so I had a friend who's a machinest the guy you mentioned on ebay make me some hardened steel diff cups and sungears he totally understood the issue also a simple lock/unlock system just by simply backing out 2 grub screws oppisite each other I emailed the issue and how I fixed it to Arma support as they appreciate feedback maybe they'll fix the issue and my buddy will retire from his current job and design parts for Arma I'm really suprised this is an issue Arma builds the bashers in my opinion and to many guys that badmouth a company when they have product issues I choose to fix it and help said company a little grace and effort can go a long way great video Earle 😎👍

The new diffs I bet line up exactly with Mugen/Ae diffs now. If you order a V3 gearset for either brand (HTC diffs) you'll see how much better quality they are, with solid huge ass Sun gears, betteroutdrives, and so on. The Ae/Mugen diffs have a thicker shaft on the outdrives, and bigger pins under the sun gear. So order the gears I can mic some dimensions if you want but I know width from bearing to bearing is exactly the same as Arrma👍💪
I agree the v4/v3 sun gears are thicker the drive cups shaft is way smaller that the issue with the change of the older diffs along with the ring gear material 👍👍💯🔥💯💯💯
I have been running that locker with a specific diff oil and specific gear lube. Turns just fine and rear traction is great. Busted a rear control arm last time out. In my opinion that locker is the only way to go. But time will tell with more testing and jumping if I got the recipe just right.
Yup, blew my rear diff a few weeks ago. Early complaints seemed to focus on shimming the diff. I got in the first batch from HH. I RR’d all diffs as soon as I received it....my SOP.....mine was tight. Added some new diff fluid. 40 packs layer.....toasted. I removed my diff gasket too, after discovering the gear wear....lasted 1/2 pack before the rear was stripped.....but no surprise at that point. I’m sure I don’t drive as hard as some😎 I’m convinced it’s a gear quality/hardness treatment issue......but..... what would I know after 30 yrs of 1:1 Porsche racing prep😂. HH has promised a fix by the end of month.

Yeah I've already had issues with the one sungear as well. I'm really annoyed considering I couldn't see any other wear inside the differential. And the diff cups are an absolute joke, I hate them. It doesn't help the dogbones sit in there so loosely... I don't get what arrma is even thinking with these vehicles, if at all. I got the EXB diffs for my outcast 6s, I wanted to wait until they had a fix for the open diff, which they did. I don't even think I put 20 packs into it until I had a diff completely lock up from the rear of the sungear being completely destroyed. I had one side of a brand new dogbone pin sheer off as well... They need to come out with v2 exb differentials and newer dogbones that actually fit snuggly into the diff cups.

I was looking forward to fitting the EXB diffs in my BLX but I'm thinking no way after all the problems I've seen people having. It's bad enough waiting 3 to 4 mouths for anything parts.
The shaft is to small I did try all arrma other diffs but found there all smaller than the ExB even the Mojave’s witch I was surprised about as non of my other diffs have broke 🔥🔥💯💯💯💯
I haven't had this problem yet, but I've been running a less powerful esc and motor than you have , putting a new max 6 and 1100kv motor in this week, we'll see if the gears can handle it.
One thing that is of concern to me is that my local hobby shop is saying HH is providing shims with the same diff as the replacement fix. And those are already at the local store. Not good, maybe you have better info since you spoke with HH. Anything I'm missing or are we screwed for now? Kinda hope I'm I'll informed
I’ve been seeing a couple cases of this happening with those little pieces breaking off of the sun gears it doesn’t look very promising if the new ones are going to have that same set up
The billet aluminum one?? I just put mine in the other day. I also used shims to get ~.8mm behind each pin to try to make it nice and tight. Hoping it holds!!
You are missing sonething if the diff is shimmed right the pin should be completly inside the sun gear and those little ears wont apbe an issue they are just designed to hold the LSD locking disk on. If you diff is shimmed wrong like yours was because the sun gear failed. If you kept the shims like they were bassicly wrongly shimmed and locking the diff when badly shim the pin half of it would rest on the little ears of the sun gear and over time it will snap
One Harley yes needs to solve these issue before selling more and making ppl wait they knew there was a big issue and continued to sell ExB waiting on ppl to call for warranty 🤔🤔🤔
Earl Moorhead my rear diff went sent everything back got full refund can’t understand why people are trying to fix faulty goods if people just send them back for a refund maybe the manufacturer might get scared and get there act together had a lot of cars over the years never had diff problems ever
Also remember all my arrma are on 8s my Mojave my v4 Kraton my infraction v1 and my youtube infraction runs on twin motor 8s system all have no diff issues 🤔🤔🤔

Ronnie Creason me to but different types of steel I guess the piece mostly came out as power in my diff I was shocked to see that only a couple didn’t turn to dust remember I keeped running my rc for about 5 minutes before I called it knowing the issue would show itself 👍👍🔥🔥💯💯💯💯

Running the 6 star LSD plates diff setup in the rear so far so good
3 shims diff cup side 2 shims crown gear side
I believe the plate support the gear and might be needed and arrma should set it up like that if it works 👍👍🔥💯💯💯

My diff cups are starting to show wear like that too. :/ Really hoping my locker holds with the tight shims behind it! Guess time will tell...

So..... V4 or V3 Kraton or Outcast diffs can't be used as substitute? I saw RED ROX RC use Outcast diff or diff parts to repair his EXB rear diff.

The depth in the sun gear won’t support the whole pin that would have been the right way but the ears are supporting half of the pin 👍👍

I stripped those lockers with the pins as well as broke the pins. make some and use a different metal and sell me some please. =)
