Well, I don't have a project story, but as I watched this I kept seeing a garden trellis.....I think I'm going to try it with floral prints on a white pole with a sky blue background. What do you think?
Rob, I know you put out this video 4 years ago but I have to say I LOVE your take on quilting patterns. They are so much easier thay other tutorials, especially for a novice like me. Keep making them. I love watching you. PS I am now a subscriber. :)😀
I want to make this with flowers and a pole. Now I have to see if I have the right fabrics in my stash. This is a fun one, thanks so much for the idea.
Saw this pattern quite a few years ago. It was called DNA. I believe it was featured in the Philadelphia quilt show. Have always wanted to do it. It has laid in the back of my mind since I first saw it. Glad I watched, going to do it now. 👍
Thank you for this pattern. I have a lot of scraps from Christmas patterns to try this. My story of something that started small was I was learning to make quilt blocks that Jeni was teaching in her tutorials and ended up making myself a large lap quilt for cold Colorado nights!
I started this ribbon pole quilt today. Watched the video over and over. Followed to the letter your great tips and like magic it is the best thing I have done in the two years I have been learning to quilt. So easy to do. Thanks Rob. I will see you on March 2nd at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, wa.
Rob, I am always intrigued by your bold and colorful design sensibilities. I love HST's and I have just added this pattern to my (ever growing) quilting bucket list! Thanks for another great tutorial!
I made a one fabric wonder once that was supposed to be a queen, but I got carried away, and ended with a king! I really like your teaching style. You make everything seem easy. Keep up the good work.
Every project I do seems to get larger, I create my own patterns & always buy a little extra fabric, maybe I should follow one for a change...no, I have too much fun. Love your videos Man Sewing 😍
I have always made my own patterns. I use s spiral note book. But have upgraded to grid paper for the real special ones. I so cannot follow a pattern. It's too hard. But my math skills SUCK! LOL good luck to ya! Kari
It is amazing how many different designs can be made with HST. I love this quilt and can understand why you kept going. I need a quilt for next month and this would work for my project.
I wanted to make my daughter a round table topper and saw the dresden star burst on msqc. I bought a wedge (it was my very first quilt attempt and the template looked like the one used in the tutorial). When I put the wedges together it took 40 pieces instead of 20. It turned out to be 36" in diameter. I was so upset but my daughter loved it! (I found the actual dresden template.)
It was so so awesome that finally get to meet you in KY at the Jabez quilt seminar. It was the best one I ever attended. Keep giving your testimony. It sure blessed me.
A quilt of Valor in red white and blue? Rob, you are contagious to watch! I always enjoy your tutorials and your "recipe cards" AND I really really like the geometric quilting design used! Ty
Had to do a "third" comment. If I had read the instructions right the first time!! I am making 3 - Christmas table runners. Hoping my sister's will like them. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
Oh a project that grew: I had so much fun creating the Pathfinder quilt the Midnight quilt show did that I started up another quilt top using completely different material for a completely different look, and Then my daughter wanted to make something so we got her going on the same quilt block pattern now too, LOL - it's good though it helps to really seal in the technique. Thanks for this video I saved it for a future quilting project.
This is the first ribbon quilt that I can actually SEE the ribbons! The contrast is perfect. I wonder what would happen if changed the top color in the center pole, would it look like they were spinning, or just be visual chaos. I must try it to see
I really love it hun!! I personally love it as a table runner too! I was making as n infant quilt for my newborn granddaughter and it turned out to be as twin!! LOL!! Xx Kari
OOO & WEE THANX SO-OO MUCH 4 PART 2 OF ADVANCED MSQC RIBBON DANCE "MAN SEWING" STYLE. IT'S ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT N SOLID HST. SO-OO FULL OF FUN. I ADORE THE "MAZE FORMATION " THE LONGARM QUILTER DID IT MAKES IT LOOK SO-OO DIMENSIONAL
I’ve always wanted to but was equally as afraid to do something like this.. but now I understand it and will definitely try it.. 1/2 square triangles who’d of thunk it would be that easy!!
Hey Rob, small project growing big? LOL started making a kidsquilt for my little kid, with a feathered star in the middle, but after adding borders until I was satisfied with the looks of it, it now more than covers a twinsize bed.... but she loves it and it can stay with her for a long time. Greetings from Germany to you
Once, while working on a quilt that was a diagonal set, I was arranging and rearranging my blocks ( I didn't have a design wall at the time so I would either work on the floor or walk back and forth between bedroom and sewing room). The quilt just kept growing as I was sewing rows & columns. I believe the pattern that was following said queen size - the quilt now hangs nicely down the sides and almost to the floor of my California king size bed!
I'm new to guilting & I'm teaching myself to quilt. My first quilt I chose a jelly roll race so I could learn to sew a quarter inch consistently. It turned out my first quilt fits a cal king & I quilted it on my domestic with like an 8 inch throat. Never again!
I am currently working on a cow quilt that I am doing for my Aunt and one block started out just a simple cow head outline and I decided to add cow spots. I am quilting approximately 128 spots on 6 blocks.
This is the first ribbon pattern I have seen with the pole!! I wasn’t a fan of the ribbon pattern until now. I might try a table runner first too, but it will have to be in some fabric that can be easily sought - just in case 😛
Love this quilt! I need to mention that you used accuracy but I think you want precision and accuracy. All the seams need to be 1/4 inch (accuracy) and close together (precision). Very cool quilt. I think I want to make it look like DNA!
My link from Zelda pixel quilt was supposed to be a "small" wall hanging but by the time I had stitched all 600 2.5" squares together it was mahoosive. I LOVE this pattern. I think it would lend itself to even tiny HSTs for dolls quilts.
Rob, will you please tell us how many of each block is needed to make a quilt the size you did? Because your columns are much longer than on the diagram, and since we can't see the whole quilt, . . .we cant tell. Thx. Great design, BTW.
LOVE the idea of the garden trellis. Think I'd do a strip set for the colored half of the color/background block to keep the ribbon from having such sharp "elbows".
I made one like this using the red and smoke charms from MSQC(my poles were black) Although I was modeling the pattern after Jenny and her tutorial, I find it interesting that yours is also extra long and narrow!
rob...I have been watching you for awhile & wanted you to know how much I respect your journey. I am trying to make a quilt for each of my 8 grandchildren's "special" b-days....ie: birth. 5 yr, 16th, 18th & 21st. anyway I would like to know how many 10" square I will need to make the ribbon pole...I come up with 12 of each color?? If I get this finished soon, I'll send you a pic...thnx for all the tips & trick you share, not to mention all the great pieces you make...thank you again
I love the idea of cutting of the corners to eliminate the dog ears. I always learn something new from you. 👏👏
Well, I don't have a project story, but as I watched this I kept seeing a garden trellis.....I think I'm going to try it with floral prints on a white pole with a sky blue background. What do you think?
That's exactly what I was thinking!! Love it
Thant combination sounds really nice!! I'd like to see it when you are done!!!
I love that idea
Can't wait to see it. Have you posted it anywhere?
Hi Rob. Thank you for teaching me how to make the ribbon pole. My daughter is a barber and this is what I made for her with your help.
Thank you Rob, this block has always puzzled me, you made it look so easy!
I really like how he broke it down too
What a fabulous tutorial...easy to follow. I made 5 column- 1 of these, one for each holiday
One ribbon & pole set would be a great border on any quilt. OOOH And peppermint stick ! In red white maybe pink ! THank you

Rob, I was always afraid of cutting and sewing the triangles, but you have inspired me to try again!!! You are an awesome teacher !!!
Can’t wait to make this quilt. Trying to decide on fabrics and colors
You are an amazing teacher. I saw several other videos prior to yours on the ribbon pattern and it only clicked when you explained it. Thank you.
Saw this pattern quite a few years ago. It was called DNA. I believe it was featured in the Philadelphia quilt show. Have always wanted to do it. It has laid in the back of my mind since I first saw it. Glad I watched, going to do it now. 👍
I love the quilting done on this quilt. Compliments it so well

I made this and it came out SO nice . thank you!
I've been waiting so long for someone to do this in quilt form. THANK YOU!!!!!

Really great beginner quilt. You are the best!
I love Pole Quilts. Great way to use up your HST's.

Hi Kari, Me too, I have every size grid with allot of colored pencils.@@spoiled4evaami
Hi, Rob! I missed you last week. Love this quilt and the Greek key type quilting. I've never seen a ribbon pole quilt but it's stunning.
It is amazing how many different designs can be made with HST. I love this quilt and can understand why you kept going. I need a quilt for next month and this would work for my project.

It looks complicated, but it is not. I love it.
Enjoyed this tutorial. You have a gift of teaching
Thank you so much, i have a lot of half triangles as leaders and enders, now i know the best pattern to use them for. thanks again. bless.
Thank you Rob, you made it look simple to put together :) Love your fabric! Love your videos :)
A quilt of Valor in red white and blue? Rob, you are contagious to watch! I always enjoy your tutorials and your "recipe cards" AND I really really like the geometric quilting design used! Ty
Thank you for the tutorial. I have been wanting to do a quilt like this, and I have a couple of partial layer cakes that would work perfectly.
Great quilt, have wanted to make for quite awhile now. Thank you! Missed you last week!!
Love your videos. Great quilt.
Had to do a "third" comment. If I had read the instructions right the first time!! I am making 3 - Christmas table runners. Hoping my sister's will like them. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
I love this pattern! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Very easy pattern. I used smaller squares because I wanted a table runner. I used Christmas colors. Turned out super nice!
This is really pretty! I see it’s an older video but I really like it the design and the quilting design is really neat with the pattern.
That would make an awesome barber pole quilt! 💈💈💈
this is a wonderful beginner tutorial
Love how easy this one is and looks great!

You always do a great job explaining to us simple brain fog sew-ers. ! ha ha. thanks so much,. like the great tips too. thank you.
I resized the squares and used Sonic the Hedgehog fabric, the kid LOVED IT❤❤

Love this quilt pattern. Pleased to see this weeks tutorial after missing last Monday’s. 😊😊

I love this and want to make it with fun fabrics. Thank you! Missed you last week.

Last year i started making my husband a lap quilt, by the time i finished it, it was a king size quilt for our bed. It's the one that got away
Love this quilt! I need to mention that you used accuracy but I think you want precision and accuracy. All the seams need to be 1/4 inch (accuracy) and close together (precision). Very cool quilt. I think I want to make it look like DNA!
Thank you Rob, I've been looking for a pattern that I could make with my daughters for their grandmother.

Thanks dear.It is really wonderful...I think I am going to try it as soon as possible...
Love the way you think! Awesome Quilt!
You are so creative, perfect and fun!
Wow love this quilt. Thanks for the great tutorial!
What a unique quilt!

Dawn Mason I made a Steve from Minecraft out of 1.75” squares for my son’s bed. I feel your pain- literally!
@@susiemeadows9838 He now wants a Mario to match but he had to wait 5 years for Link guess how many for Mario lol
Dawn Mason That sounds about right to me!
How did I miss this video, this is exactly what I was looking for.
I’m missing your weekly video! This Ribbon Pole is the latest I can find and it is from last week.
Rob, will you please tell us how many of each block is needed to make a quilt the size you did? Because your columns are much longer than on the diagram, and since we can't see the whole quilt, . . .we cant tell. Thx. Great design, BTW.
I'd be terrified of all those bias edges! I would have to make those HSTs, the old way. You are braver than me. 🙂
That sounds lovely
What a fun quilt!
Love this!
I'm gonna try this 😍
Thank you for this pattern I can't wait to try it
LOVE the idea of the garden trellis. Think I'd do a strip set for the colored half of the color/background block to keep the ribbon from having such sharp "elbows".
Thanks very neat design. I’m going to shrink it down for a table runner.
Thank you for this video. I am aiming for a queen size quilt with this design. Go big or go home :-)
You are amazing 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Finally got the fabrics I am going to use for making this quilt. Can't wait to get started. Thanks, Rob.
I made one like this using the red and smoke charms from MSQC(my poles were black) Although I was modeling the pattern after Jenny and her tutorial, I find it interesting that yours is also extra long and narrow!
This would be a good stash buster with different colored ribbons on each pole columns
I’ve always had that pucker at the end, I was beginning to believe it’s just me, so thanks.
a handmade baby dress that turned into 3 days of pattern making, constructing and accessories. but, I loved it
Great video. Entertaining and informative.
I’m thinking that this pole sewn in a single “row” would also make an awesome border for a quilt!!
niftyneedle95628 using this as a border right now. Do you have the placement for the corner blocks? Thank you
Great pattern
Nice table runner with this pattern as well.
Beautiful
Very cool!
Thx great video and so easy.
Candycane for Christmas......... if made in green, red, white and blue......
