Tenpai Dragons' going first strategy is basically the same as when they go second, hand trap the opponent into submission. The trap helps them survive the opponent's battle phase so they can OTK on the follow-up turn
which is the same thing as most snake eyes decks plans going second. like even if you go 'people will just side in the ashned that pops field spells', the deck is still worth respecting. like if cyberse piles was still relevant for a while cause of circular and 15 handtraps, it prob wont be the best deck in format but its not gonna be as irrelevant as some people like to think
I can't wait to summon 3 Ojama Tokens and then OTK the opponent on their BP with the new Trap + lvl 10. I won't happen a lot of times but the opponent getting it wont forget it.
that trap is the new go to card when tenpai players are forced to go 1st kaihou will end their mp then if super dragon on the field, it will force their monster to attack resulting to a board wipe and you drawing cards, flood summon and recovery/follow up next turn. (time it good and your opponent might otk himself) they can skip mp1 and bp to avoid selfTK but during mp2, the moment they summon 2+ monster kaihou will be activated, forcing them to end their turn 🤣🤣🤣 backrow removal will definitely became staple now

One of the benefits of White Woods Runick is that it can use Black-Winged Assault Dragon as a win condition that allows you to win quickly without the need to use the battle phase. The other is that Formula Synchron allows you to make Herald of Arc light.
15:35 - 16:30 The thing is tho. Tenpai Dragon can be a representation of all of the Battle Phase related effects to become relevant again due to how much they dodge removal and the application of going 2nd cards being incredibly strong. I hope they provide other decks that go 2nd and OTK like Numeron, Mikanko, Raidraptor, Ancient Warriors, etc Tenpai Dragon's design in the future whether directly or indirectly. *THEN*, they need to make broken, but conditional in deck-building requirements alongside restrictive cards that fixes the issues towards cards with effects that can ONLY be activated during the Battle Phase and/or benefit to being activated during the Battle Phase like stat reduction of the opponent's monsters when they attack or battle. There are ways to make this work and having the opponent try to play around them will be significantly reduced due to how specific and slow Battle Phase related effects are, so Force Attack effects has to be included within the effects of cards that needed it and making certain effects at least not be negated is required. There will have to be some bullshit that cannot be avoided in their design, so break hell loose; it's the least Konami can do for wasting so much cardboard to modern cards that have Battle Phase related effects.
The trap is actually disgusting (in my POV) if they open Field spell when going 1st. BECAUSE IT MAKES YOUR MONSTERS UNAFFECTED DURING MAIN PHASE 1,) they can make the Sangen Superdragon Transcend Dragion (Their lvl 10 Synchro) and its somewhat of a floodgate during the battle phase since it FORCES ALL MONSTERS IN ATK POSITION AND CRASH INTO IT, also NOT ALLOWING YOU OPPONENT TO ACTIVATE ANYTHING (Cards/Effects) DURING THE BATTLE PHASE. And if they attacked 3x that turn and tries to enter Main Phase 2 you'd be able to SKIP THAT MAIN PHASE and also trigger: " If 3 or more attacks are declared this turn: You can banish this card from your GY; draw 1 card, then you can Special Summon any number of "Tenpai Dragon" monsters from your hand." WHICH IS LITERALLY A PENDULUM SUMMON that prepares for follow-up. (Also quite similar to Snake-Eye Ash/Poplar being summoned by Flamberge after being sent to the GY at your turn). Now this is not fool proof, but atleast the deck now has in-archetype options in case of going 1st.
Dawg... the field spell only gives your fire dragons immunity during YOUR main phase 1. There are people who got this wrong in the comments when the archetype was first revealed.

Aw yeah hand trap format baybee. No wonder they were releasing staples like gang busters with rarity collection. They were getting people ready to fork up money to get the tenpais to complete the deck
I think the trap is really strong, but I don't think it's as strong as all the doomposting I've been seeing. First, you need to get to the card. Assuming you run the field spell at 3, you have a decent chance of not opening the field spell, and then you have to use Paidra's effect to search the field spell. If you run the trap at 1, then you're very unlikely to see it, so you may need to run it at 3 and get lucky, or forgo manor turn 1. Running a trap that may only get one use at 3 is risky for consistency, especially if they still play the other pseduo-turn skip ones like heat wave, since you increase the risk of bricking. If you do hard open it, you start weakening one of the main upsides of the deck, which is the ability to run a ton of non-engine. The endboard turn 1 then needs to be a single fire dragon. Any more and a lot of decks can still do a lot of damage if allowed to get two bodies out. At minimum, 2 bodies can threaten Knightmare Phoenix which just wastes the resources or consistency you used to include the card. But at that point, it's a pretty trivial board to get over, and the tenpai player diluted their chances of drawing their defensive options. On top of that, it then just folds to a cosmic cyclone, a feather duster, any backrow removal, etc. That plus all the other tools available that neuter Tenpai makes really hurts the deck. Don't get me wrong, it's still a strong card and I'm not convinced that it's healthy. But it doesn't seem like a huge threat into a meta that is prepared for tenpai.
Backrow removal. In a format where over 50% of decks are completely unaffected by it and over 50% don't even sweat once their backrow is dealt with since they're usually searchable 3-ofs.
@@ThatOneWeirdFlex Yes, backrow removal. You're not maining it anyway, and Tenpai usually wouldn't be playing it round 1 anyway as a blind second deck.
