Back in the 90s she used to go to the Sound Factory (27th Street). It was one of those clubs where you would be on the dancefloor look over and see someone like Madonna or Grace Jones just dancing a few feet from you... and no one is reacting. It was 90s house music and EVERYONE danced. We knew who she was as most of us were into fashion. Never socialized with her. She mainly stayed on the dance floor with the one or two people she would be with. That club should have a real documentary.
I also remember seeing her dancing at Body and Soul at Club Vinyl.
Okay, I gotta watch this because this seems like the real life version of “Beau is Afraid” 🤣
'Surviving Bethann' (2024), starring Kadeem Hardison
I loved the fact Joseph 'feels' there's something 'curiously amiss' in the Mother and son dynamics! This lady, I'm only hearing about now, seems to 'energise' herself through her 'connecting' with the models and...feels like, larger than life success in a male dominated world for the time. Seems a worthy watch!
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.this is an important subject matter for sure. I may have to do more research on my own.really interesting Kadeem Hardison is her son
I had the same thoughts , ❤️
Lol at Nicks dig about the models looking into robotic.. malnourished 😅
Great review guys ❤❤❤
I feel bad for her son
I get she is being honest when she says those things but her son will remember those words forever
Just sad to me that she wasn’t more loving to him because he so badly wanted that from her
Great movie much respect for her do not misunderstand
Also Nick ❤❤❤ malnourished and robotic 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😅😅💯💯💯💯💯
"...a compelling documentary about a woman's life's work which too often times feels like an obituary."
Oof!! I felt that.
nick I seen your face when Joseph was talking about how he wants things his own way.."😆 But I really love hearing you bot talk about this documentary
Nick's expressions RULED this video. lol
Bethann's upclose was fierce in THE WIZ with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson during the Emerald City scene with model Iman just behind her.
Iman, Naomi, Beverly Johnson, Grace Jones, Veronica Webb, Tyra, even Yasmeen Ghauri (who was Pakistani with a Muslim family) are some of the most fiercest women I've ever seen on the catwalk. When Beverly made the cover of Vogue in 1974 that was a HUGE moment. I'll definitely check this out. I'm shocked i didn't know more about this woman's career. But yeah, I'd like to see more about the women of color I mentioned and their impact.
@thedarkforest_46664 thank you for clarifying this. 😊
Yasmeen is also german
Fascinating what you said about how you saw the mother/son relationship in this. Always love the kind of discussion topics that come up in your reviews.
I hope you guys review the documentary about the forgotten first black super model Donyale Luna. Did the Bethann Hardison documentary mention her involvement in Battle of Versailles Fashion show?
I watched the Donyale Luna documentary on Hulu, which was very interesting
I used to work in the fashion business for years and she us definitely a legend. Someone I knew worked in her office and told me she had never seen her smile and she really didn't "suffer fools". Definitely a film to see for me.
Are you going to review “The Other Black Girl”?🥰
You beat me to it. I just finished the series.
I read the book in a book club so interested to see how it turns out. I hope the ending is better than the book which seemed to lose steam at end.
@monchiquita25 I've read the same via reddit. I'm not sure how they differ because I haven't read the book, but overall, I enjoyed it. Big fan of the og Stepford Wives along with Get Out & more recently They Cloned Tyrone. All the actresses did a great job and the friend, Malaika, loved that character. I hope you dig it too 😊
@@TechnicJunglist I’m on episode 4. 🫣
This is definitely a movie I will seek out, but not because of Bethann Hardison. I am not familiar with her, and there is nothing about her that piques my interest. If you are directing a documentary about your accomplishments, that should include a bit of your inner life and thoughts not just the periphery. But, perhaps, Ms. Hardison is saying 'look what I have done with my life; this is what I have built; this is me. What more do you want?' Anyway, I am excited to see the ancillary cast that surrounds her. This was a terrific review. Thank you!
ok I deffo want to see this, you have piqued my interest
Is the model on the far right in your background a Real Housewife of Potomac?!
Kadeem Harrison?
