  • showing how I set it up and what “switches” control what. I LOVE seeing how people control their models that are more complicated than just simple 2 channel throttle steering. Especially in the heavy equipment models I have but since this is a bit complicated I’d thought I’d share. Enjoy,

      also you need a receiver controlled switch and I use this one www.ebay.com/itm/131170919181
      I have a video on here about hooking it up also.. you do need one channel available to control it.

      The basic cop car is a Vaterra that is discontinued. I added the 10 channel radio and all the lights accept the roof light bar and the push bumper. I still have a couple brand new stock ones I picked up overseas after I found out they discontinued them. I had to pay more though so obviously I’m looking to make a profit if I sell one. I modified this one for a kid and put many hours into it.

      That looks great! I love all the seperate channels you have, especially the spotlight. Might want to put a little more resistance on the 3rd brake light to stop the glow when not braking.
      There are a couple of 1/14 police cars just takes more work than doing 1/10...

    • @Trucker1970
      @Trucker1970  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jeremy boyle THANKS yeah.. I know nothing about how to use resistors properly lol I made the 3rd brake light out of SMD603 LED chips I wired them in parallel with one resistor. The cheap light controller I bought the tail lights are always on so if you have brake lights you have to have tail lights. There is no way of turning them off or separating them. If I put a higher value resistor than I have then they probably wouldn’t be very bright as a brake I would assume, but again I know very little. If I could have brake lights only without tail lights on the light controller unit I would just glue 2 red chip lights on the tip if the 5mm bulb of the brake lights and wire them into my marker lights on the 4 corners of the car. But yeah I talked to the buyer explaining there was nothing I could do he is fine with it. Please send any 1/14 scale car links you have I can’t find any cop cars and only a couple regular cars one is a Shelby Mustang. Thanks for the comment.

    • @jeremyboyle5695
      @jeremyboyle5695 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, basically just add more resistance where your dropping resistor already is, so that the 3rd brake is dimmer or just below threshold voltage normally, but still lights up on braking.
      I'm starting on a 'Jada hyperchargers' cop Charger, they also made a cop Camero. If you go older, there was a NewBright cable control Caprice cop. There were a couple tonka/funrise cop Crown vics and Caprices that were begging for a chassis under them... or you could make just about anything into a DARE cop car.

Hopefully you’ll find another but all the ones I’ve seen are kids toys and don’t allow you to control anything as well as they’re hardly drivable. Good luck.

      They have been discontinued by the manufacturer. I bought 5 new ones after they discontinued them I found online. I found four of them overseas and the one in the video on ebay in the states. I had to pay much more than the original price. The one in this video is $1000 I modified it over 2 years for a kid. He got it and 4 months later he died. I could probably buy it back. I also have 3 brand new stock ones. $450 each shipped and one brand new one that I added a 4 channel remote a siren and remote switching from the radio for both the stock lights and siren I added from the radio. $650 shipped (USA) other than that... look on ebay. The stock ones you turn the switch on and the roof light bar and push bumper flash all the time you have it turned on. It has no other lights and no siren. No lights are activated from the remote. I put a lot of time into making the one in this video. Here is the link for a modified vs the stock one $450 vs $650 that I have both right now th-cam.com/video/ZUCk6e1gnEY/w-d-xo.html GOOD LUCK let me know if you want one.

      I bought the RC cop car then modified it. It was only 2 channels (drive/steering) the lights on the roof and push bumper came on and stayed on the whole time when you turned the car on. It had no siren or other lights I added all that along with the 10 channel radio and all the switches to do everything from the radio. The RC Vaterra 2012 CHP cop car was discontinued in 2017. You would have to buy something and make one yourself.

    Do you know if I can use this remote and receiver with my Kyosho Fazer Mk2 Mercedes GT3? Thank you!

    • @Trucker1970
      @Trucker1970  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes absolutely there would be no reason why you couldn’t. It was only 6 years ago or less when I didn’t quite understand how it all worked and if something would work using a different radio and a bit confused myself. ANY radio/receiver combo can be used in a model. The ESC should have a BEC and all do that I’m aware of. The ESC powers the receiver then you plug in your steering servo or any other servo or ESC until all the channels are used up. You can use receiver controlled switches on channels to control lights (and siren) as I did here. My spotlight is using 2 channels one to turn it using a small N20 motor and a small 10amp ESC and another attached to a receiver controlled switch to turn the light on and off. I always bought RTR Traxxas and what not and never realized how you can customize RC so easily. Hope this helps. Good luck. it’s a great radio for the money. 😃

      @@Trucker1970 awesome. Thank you so much. I’m a huge fan of your work, especially your police rmp/ vehicles. Best one I’ve seen. So the stock esc should work with the receiver of the new remote, correct? Thanks again!

    • @Trucker1970
      @Trucker1970  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexnava8729 yes any ESC should work. Only issues you can run into with a receiver is they put out between 5 and 6 volts so they make servos for steering that are much more powerful typically only used in crawlers. They draw more power than the receiver puts out. You can however separate a servo wire (typically red/black/white) you can remove the back and red wires from the black part by lifting the tab and pulling the wires out. You put the plug with just the one white wire on the channel that’s the signal wire. You use a thing called a “buck converter” they can be purchased on Amazon very cheap. You can adjust the voltage to anything LESS THAN the voltage of the battery. They are rated at 3amps which is great for most RC related stuff. You would run a red and the black off the battery into the converter then hook the red and black you took out of the servo to the other side of the converter. The guy in Italy that made my green excavator used one he uses a 4s battery (14.8v to 15.2v operating range) and lowers the voltage to 12v for the whole machine that way everything gets 12v all the time since the lowest voltage is 14.8v. You will notice if you are running lights sometimes running a 3s battery powering things that require 12v that when a 3s battery (11.2v to 12.4v operating range) dips below 12v your lights may dim they may dim when hitting the throttle and it starts drawing power. Anyways.. that’s something I learned recently. You can have only the white wire going to the receiver (signal) and get your power from another source if it requires more than 5 or 6 volts.
