Another martin copy. Still don't sound like an old martin to me. Why does everyone want their guitars sound like a martin? Martin is still trying to make their guitars sound like a martin. Man is trying to replace mother nature.
It's simple, we're trying to get the mojo of a $50k+ guitar at a $10k price point. As you say "Martin is trying"... but this gets closer. I own the actual guitar in this video. From the first strum, I was convinced it was the best guitar I had ever played per my preferences. And I used to live close to the late great Buffalo Brothers in San Diego - I've played many dozens of guitars in a similar price range over the years. Since taking ownership have compared it against 3 pre-war Martins - a '36 D-18, a '44 000-21, and a '34 0-17,. I also own a OM-28 Authentic. The D-18 I just played for fun, 000-21 I actually purchased in hopes to replace the Pre*War for about 2x the cost. Of those two, I greatly preferred the Pre*War (they came off like 'old' guitars rather than great guitars to me, so I'll just chalk it up to them not being great examples). I knew within 30 minutes of taking possession of the 000-21 that it was going back, it wasn't even close. The 0-17 was great though, on similar footing to the Pre*War, just a slightly quieter, more mid-centric presentation (that particular guitar: th-cam.com/video/9fVWNUPHJe8/w-d-xo.html). The Pre*War is different from the Authentic... the Martin does sound more 'like a Martin', but the PW sounds older and more dried out. It has what that 0-17 had, this incredible touch sensitivity where it just roars alive in a way that seems to defy physics. It does have a bit of a metallic sheen to the trebles that I believe deviates a bit from the Martin sound... I theorize it's probably from un-aged Braz that needs some time to mellow out, though I believe PW torrefaction of the top is more aggressive. I've also compared it against quite a few other pretty nice newer guitars... including 4 Collings Julian Lages, a Borges OM-18, many other Bourgeois/Collings, a vintage Braz/German SCGC OM - to my preferences, it beat them all. Unfortunately, aside from the Borges, I haven't tried any other higher end vintage Martin repros like Merrill, Blazer and Henkes. With all that said, the 0-17 made me a believer and I'm sure an equally great prewar Martin 000-28 would edge out the Pre*War for sure. The highly active Pre*War thread over at the UMGF has dozens of folks who own prewar Martins alongside their Pre*War guitars and claim they're in the ballpark.
Man, what great power out of guitar of that size
What a beautiful sounding guitar
Great bluesy demo 👍🏻
Good sound
this sounds amazing
Loved the demo! Great looking and sounding OM! Would love to hear their 000 w/mahogany.
It's actually a 000 (short scale). For their 000-18, Molly Tuttle's demo is my fav: th-cam.com/video/MF5wlpzCQos/w-d-xo.html
This isn't am om
It likes the blues.
by the way for those interested, the guitar is around 7 - 8000 a piece
Christ almighty that's good
