I'm 57, and participated (sang/danced) in this musical in the mid 80's in high school.
It was somewhat controversial then for teens to sing/dance to this musical:)
I respect our Musical Director so much for having the temerity to put this out.
I still sing the songs today, and the lyrics to so many songs, are so relevant to the issues of today:)
After decades in the workforce this song hits different.
I got to enjoy this movie in my theatre class and its still one of the best musicals that I have seen. Some classics will never die.
Don't underestimate the the way the actors in the background freeze and become part of the background. It's a subtle add, but it's a really cool theatrical device to make us look at the two main singers, but used on film :)
RIP Mr Morse Thanks for the memories you will be missed. I loved all your great performances
This is a lesser appreciated song of this wonderful, salient musical.
Listen to the lyrics, and extrapolate to today's issues:)
Enjoy...
Viewing this brilliant duet on the day of Robert Morse's passing. We've lost a good one...

That's FRANK LOESSER for ye!
Is anyone else just finding out that Republican Town isn’t an original song?
If you hear a catchy song on Family Guy, chances are it was originally from some old musical made years ago that Seth MacFarlane is a fan of.
@@McSuperfly101 Yep. Shipoopi, Mr. Booze, this, etc
@@CharlieND Down Syndrome Girl? Is there an original? Because I need it.
No.
At this very moment
Just saw my niece in a High School version of this , I have to say those kids put on an amazing show .
Family Guy brought me here.
Stopped watching the show for a few years lol but it's cool to know they apparently parodied this song lol
Right they parodied this song with republican town
Same.
Danny Elfman brought me here (he sang this part in the musical when he was in high school)
"Your brain is the company brain!"
"The company washed it and now I can't complain!"

Alwas loved this movie. This scene was really great and yes, atill very true today but my favourite is when the big boss comes in to the office early and Robert Morse makes sure it looks like he's been there working all night... even starts knitting becuase he found out that the boss does it secretly.
Is no one going to mention all the background actors freeze in place when the music starts? I can't imagine how difficult it would be to hold those positions for the whole song.
I had not noticed the lack of movement among the background actors until you brought it to my attention. I did notice, however, the same thing in Easter Parade while Judy Garland and Fred Astaire were singing All Aboard for Alabam' and dancing together. No one in the background moved a muscle. It must be a difficult thing to do in a movie, but to do it night after night in a live Broadway show must be exhausting.
Watch the whole movie, they do that a lot.
That's likely just a background snapshot. Notice throughout the song the singers are in the same place. It's to add to the illusion.

The genius of Frank Loesser
I watched this movie a few days ago and it is now my favorite movie
And still so true till this day.... Sadly
worse today than back then
I gotta be honest ambition really did me in when I was young. My life didn’t get better until my 30s when I too became a company man. If only I’d seen this sooner and become a spineless jellyfish if an employee early.
Matter of opinion. If you want consistency and stability, being a company man would be the dream, but if you have bigger ambitions, 25 years in the same job sounds like a nightmare.
OLD BUT GOOD
I love the facial gestures; such dynamic acting.
Not just old. A golden oldie!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
AND, not BUT
I also love "Old Ivy", but can't seem to find that clip from the movie.
Stands just like Bert Cooper
This musical is marking its 60th anniversary this year. Don't figure out my age---I remember when it premiered.

What a fantastic ride darling man! Fly with the angles. 💋
This is good.
SO current. This is how it is today in vast majority of places.

Yyyyyyyyyyup.
I was today years old when I realised Finch eventually became Bert Cooper on Mad Men 😮
So this is how Burt Cooper got started❣️👏🏻

R.I.P Robert Morse
just realised the instrumental, family guy took it for the republicans song brian sings lol
Played Mr. Twimble in high school
Turns out I'm nothing like the guy. Absolutely despise his mindset lol
That guy’s obviously never heard of personal space.
RIP Bobby Morse
My two nephews just did this play at their high school and these were the parts they had so they got to do this duet together. It was pretty great. As for the play itself, I enjoyed it but I was actually a little surprised a high school in 2022 would do it. Both because it was pretty racy at times and also very politically incorrect by today's standards. Kudos to the head of their drama department for having the stones. LOL! 😂
When my high school did it they cut the racy stuff.
My high school didn't cut anything. But that was also 20 years ago.
Not sure why, but I think Robert Morse has sort of a Stephen King vibe here.
the people in the background just freeze and it's creeping me out
I've never seen this but I can see where family guy gets it's inspiration for it's musicals.
I COSTARRED IN THIS PRODUCTION BACK IN 1981 BEREA HIGH SCHOOL I WAS SIXTEEN THAN.
FOURTY YEARS AGO WAS PART OF MY YOUTH.

The Paranoia XP supplement Service, Service! brought me here.
Could anyone play this part better than Robert Morse?
NO!
He's kind of like if Jerry Lewis was a normal human being.
I hear Robert Morse could give this guy a run for his money! 😉
@@Tmanaz480 Haha - well said!
One day someone will but if anyone has to date I have not seen it.
This should be the WWE's official theme song.
This song's melody is familiar, but I can't place where. It's not Family Guy's Republican Town, I know that's a direct parody
Seven company men don't like this video.
Family Guy Republican Town anyone?
Ive been searching for the original for two frickin days😂
I watched this movie eight years ago for the first time. I couldn’t pinpoint were republican town came from until I watched this again yesterday!
Yep. Didn't know this version existed until now.

It's a paradise, Brian

And everyone prays to a proper right-wing God

Republican Catholics?

Yes, indeed, there are!

Republican Muslims?

Now, let's not go too far

We just take it
