Very interesting. It takes time but I've set front brakes up lovely before. I've modified the shoes as you say but never thought to modify the cams. As well as force progression gives good braking so can definitely see the benefit of it. Nice work thanks for sharing.
So what's it like out on the road with these modifications? did you find much improvement? I'm particularly interested in the new profile. By the way, I've done reverse pull on 2 of my drum bikes and found the one with GP cam horrible; really harsh. So i put it back to standard. The one with LI cam is much better.
cheers bro . standard front brake is so bad just fades or snatches then fades lol trying to get better brakes for people who dont want a disc ..... mods lol
Just my opinion of course.. and I'm happy to be shown to be wrong. BUT I think some of the ideas are dangerous!!! ... shorten the cam and it is in danger of jamming. Shortening it will also increase the cable movement exactly as much as correspondingly lengthening the arm. Re-profile the cam by all means , but ideally after building it up first. No comment was made that one shoe is operated on the outer edge and the other on the inner. Cutting back the leading edge of the lining???? Bonkers IMO
think i made the point in video not to shorten cam thats not what ive done . cam is same size , only profile is changed giving effect of short cam more power . if you look at some brake cams in other modern bikes they are not squared off at the ends because thats what jams when it cuts into the shoe ? same goes for the lining look at yamaha shoes the lining is shorter , so what now ?
I remember many years ago removing the brake shoes and to make them work better using grease to make the operation of the brakes smooth and sweet, like you I am sure the leading edge and trailing edge are the braking surface, I found them in the wet rather useless, and need to brake 3 times the distance than in the dry. Maybe that's my advice, for brake drum style brakes, leaves 3 times the distance when braking...what I do notice on that particular brake is the lack of grease...just my opinion

Like that idea a lot as I can't really afford an hydraulic disc brake.
