In a previous podcast (I think the what annoys you about other motorcyclists episode) Spurg mentioned offhand that he hates hearing when people change their exhaust and it starts burbling that a lot of people say they like, but really it means the engine isn't tuned right. I recently changed my exhausts and it burbles a little bit on letting the throttle out. How is it tuned wrong? Too lean or too much? Do I need to get a power commander?
As a passionate life-long F1 fan who appreciates the technological advances the sport brings, I'll be the first to agree that MotoGP is FAR more exciting to watch. Passing, strategy, multiple lead changes (both in the races and the standings) the skill and nerve demonstrated by the riders on the edge...all make for a better fan experience. Secondly, please add Jen as part of your permanent crew - she brings a nice balance and diversity to the show, tons of credibility and a valued point of view.
How exactly does she bring "credibility" to a motorcycle podcast....? And nobody gives $0.02 about "diversity" in riding... we just care that they are riding....not that their "intersectionality" converges on motorcycling....
I'm happy that she disliked the MT07. Her comparison between it and the Trident shows me she is going to be one to listen to, for me in particular. If Jen likes how it handles; reckon I will too.
Love the podcast but it would be nice to have an editor splice in images of the bikes that are being discussed. There's moments when you guys are speaking about a specific feature of a bike and I don't always have a visual reference.
Finally, a person who is a reasonable height to review motorcycles. I am so tired of freakishly tall people--defined as people taller than 5'7--telling me that a BMW GS 1250 is a comfortable bike to ride.
Wearing glasses makes riding in the rain a nightmare. The visor might stay clear with a pinlock but the humidity makes my glasses fog up instantly and cracking the visor open only gets me water drops on my glasses. Great show. Loved Jenn. Hope she's regular guest. I love riding in rain if prepared properly. It can be peaceful. Pinlock, crack visor, and maybe rainx on outside, not inside.

For the raining riding topic. I ride in Seattle and have had my fair share of rain riding. I can say that I don't ride without a pinlock. Even with one, if it's warm, it can fog a little. Never pop your visor if your helmet is wet even if it's not raining, you can't get the water off the inside without taking your helmet off. The thumb wiper is critical for riding on surface streets because stopped or at low speeds there isn't enough wind to blow the visor clean. Also, if it rains regularly, the middle of the lane is usually not oily and the car tracks can have varying amounts of standing water which can catch you out at freeway speeds. Just a few thoughts on rain riding. You could literally fill an article with riding in the rain in different parts of the country/world as it can be very different depending where you are.

To piggy back spurg. Don’t use rain-x as anti fog for your face shield. First of all it’s intended for glass. It will chemically damage your shield. They do make a plastic safe rain-x but the rain x is hydrophobic and will cause moisture to bead. Inside you helmet this will look worse than even fog. Plastic rain x for the outside of the visor shield only!

Cheers! What a year for motorcycles. I bought my first bike at the end of 2019. As a sportbike lover since I was very young I got a 2017 R3 as my first. After 2020, the list of bikes im looking at is growing rapidly. If I can keep the R3, a HD Low Rider S, the new Indian Chief Dark Horse are the main two im looking at. Obviously the sportbike category has plenty of bikes id love to get, but my insurance company ruined my dreams of owning a Yamaha MT10 for 2022. At over $100 more a month than the HD Low Rider S, looking at it over 5 years it made the choice simple to get a cruiser. Cheers, keep up the great content. I can't wait to see what other bikes ill be adding to my list to look at, and you guys and gals are the best information i've seen.
As far as riding in the wind, especially a cross-breeze. I live in Nevada and it gets windy here. Someone told me a tip that I have tried and it worked well for me. Simply deploy your windward knee out into the slipstream and gusts. This will steady you well, and allows you to feel when you need the air-brake and when you don't.
Please have "Fast Eddie" (aka Greg Widmar), the man behind MotoJitsu on the podcast. He's one of the most important people in motorcycling trying to make motorcyclists safer and more skilled.
I can't speak on the 300 motor but my klx250 is a tank. Gets 70+ mpg riding to work, city riding is so easy, hop curbs go up stairs ect. Will run wide open on the highway, Trails on the weekends, puts up with the crashing when I pretend I'm Graham Jarvis. Yea it's a little slow but it does all the motorcycle things and all you gotta do is change the oil and clean the filter.
When it comes to the 125cc variants, we have a ton in Europe because of the A1 licenses for 16 year olds which need bikes under 11kw of power I think. They have basically mini versions of most bikes eg Cbr125s, YSF-R125, Shadow 125s, Varadero 125s. Basically they have a mini version of most segments (sports bikes, cruisers, naked, supermoto, dual sports and such). If you ever want to send Zack and Ari to Europe they could always do a comparison between the mini versions of bikes compared to the full sized ones!
With regards to the Diavel in the last question, I agree it is unique. I think the xDiavel is a cruiser or cruiser-ish, but the original Diavel is not. I have a 2012 Diavel Cromo (chrome tank sides and old school Ducati lettering) and the leg position is the opposite of cruiser, with pretty high footpegs and bent knees. And while not a light bike, it is surprisingly nimble. For the original Diavel you can get Shad P3 side racks which turn the Diavel into an awesome sports tourer (though tank range isn't great, 110-120 miles or so before light comes on). Finally, you can get low mileage, used ones for good deals. I got mine 2 years ago for 8 grand with full Termi exhaust. It rides well in town, but as Alex said, it will rip your face off if you want. When you pass on the highway, you look back and the cars are just small dots disappearing over the horizon.
You brought up the Ducati monster when talking about the FTR but didn’t talk about the new one! Bugger. Really interesting opinions and perspectives from Jen though glad to hear a contrary opinion on some bikes. Much love
For 40 years most of it in the UK I have used Washing Up Liquid/Detergent. I always wash in and out of visor with it. Carry a small bottle of it with you. Need to experiment with how much to use, depends on brand. V wipe, if it still exists? To wipe the outside.
Same up north shop I use has barley anything on the floor new or used. Ordered 2 bikes new this year took 3 months for one to come in and 4 for the other. They are looking for used bikes like crazy trying to get something to sell
@@mojomanmurph1925 the sales floors are normally full with both used and new bikes shop I go to has about 15 bikes on the sales floor and only a few of those are new bikes. People are buying bikes this year was glad I ordered mine back in February
Just caught up with this first episode with Jen, and my ears perked up when she mentioned that she's a big fan of riding the Mesa Grande loop here in San Diego County. Cool, that shows you know what's up, Jen, but please keep it on the DL in the future. Let's keep the crazies on their crotch rockets over on Palomar. 😉 And welcome to Revzilla, Jen! Hoping you'll be a regular on the show!
Used bike prices are nuts right now in the northeast. KLRs are going for a higher price than the new ones are listing. There no supply and there's a high demand
My son is pretty much adult sized and I'm looking for a bike for him to move into next year. He's not a racer, and I'd rather not maintain a 250F. I'm seriously thinking the KLX300R is the ticket. A bit harder edged than the CRF and TTRs but not high strung and high maintenance like the 250f competition bikes. Thanks for your comments on it.
Recently picked up a '21 KLX300R... It's the ultimate trail bike. I love the Husqvarna FEs, but at half the price the 300R is the better option for the casual trail rider.
@@NateB240z I currently have a 2021 Z900, a 2021 Z400, 2019 ninja 650 and a 2019 kx450. Also have a yamaha ttr125 but for the price and what you get you just can't beat kawasaki
Super happy you guy found Jen! The motorcycling world needs way more female representation. Glad to have her perspective and look forward to more of season 4!
Jen, what model Aermacchi motorcycle did your Mom own? For those who don't know, Harley Davidson owned part of the Italian motorcycle maker Aermacchi in the 1960's and 1970's. They sold them as the Harley-labeled 350 Sprint and various 2-stroke models. In the 1970's I was surprised to learn that the Harley Davidson dual-sports I was interested in were Italian.
In regards to riding in the rain, your "slow down" comment applies to ALL aspects of riding, not just your velocity. Slow turning, slow on the brakes, no sudden actions whatsoever. Living here in the Pacific NW (Puget Sound area specifically), it's an all too common occurrence to get caught in the rain and it's something I'm fortunately/unfortunately all too familiar with it.
25:44 speaking of approachable... i love the power of my z900, but i may not always want that much. low power mode is great for cruising through town, but every once in a while i may want to give it the beans and show that lambo who really owns the road. so i think they need a third mode in between. but not just a simple linear throttle curve like Low is now, where power is limited to around 60% no matter how much you twist the throttle. the medium mode should start at 60% of Full, just like Low, but then wind up at 100% of full throttle at full twist. so if you've got the grip at 50% throttle, the engine would actually be around 40% throttle. (because at 50% twist, the power map would be at 80% rates, and half throttle at 80% rates would be 40% throttle.) so Rain mode uses Low power mode; where full throttle is still only 60% throttle. Sport mode obviously uses the Full power map. but Road mode would use the Variable rates power map; so you can have gentle response at low twistage, but still be able to get full power when you need to leave that obnoxious dually in your dust. am i making any sense?
Spurgeon, you missed the point of the OG FTR. Turn the traction control off and rip it around. It's epic fun to slide around gravel roads. It's not a DS...
I believe HD bought MV Agusta in 2008 and then sold it in 2009. It seemed like more of a transaction and ownership deal on paper rather than HD actually taking over production and sales of MV Agusta motorcycles.
Indian FTR is the only bike which attracts me in the whole Indian line-up. i think it's just that it has way more modern look, everything else looks like from 40 years ago, regardless the fact they have some modern features and things like that. however, as a dude who lives in Europe the brand isn't among the possibly buying options though, but still that bike looks really cool imo.
I to have never did a triple jump but I would soon rather ride/watch the off road segment then the on road segment. There are more places to ride a street bike then a dirt bike. LOL Great way to start the new season
Good conversation, but many times watching Zack and Spurgeon, I have the feeling that they try really hard not to dislike each other, or at least not to show it...
Hee Jen, a Honda Hawk like in GT650 Hawk? Check out Aaron ColtOns’ build, but you probably allready did ;) (I’m so sorry I ever sold mine years ago ). Anyway nice to see you on the show. Best wishes from The Netherlands
The Tuono 660 has only 25hp more than the SV650 or MT-07 but costs $3,000 more. Granted, it looks $10k better and has much higher quality parts installed.
An ohlins shock can cost about half of a bikes cost yet people still buy them. Everyone sees value in a different way. The Aprilia looks great im just curious how it'll hold up over time
Spurgeon, being a tall guy, do you lower the pegs on your adv machines to open the cockpit? I want more space, but I also want the clearance for my idiotic off road shenanigans
I don’t lower the pegs at all. On my 1090 I opted for the wider rally pegs which I really like. And the. When I built out the 790 Rally I opted for the tall seat, and that was a game changer. I’ve since gotten the tall seat for my 350 as well. It opens up the cockpit and makes it easier to transition between sitting and standing.
@@SpurgeonDunbar Thanks for the reply, Spurge. I have the taller rally seat on my T7, but I still feel an inch more hip and knee space would be very nice. Im struggling with controlling the rear break with MX boots.
@@JohannesDalenMC Yeah, I had a similar struggle with the T7. Ultimately I ended up raising the rear brake pedal a few turns and found a much better result.
Motorcycle sales have been up 21% over the past 12+ months. That's 21% extra sales to Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki & Royal Enfield the only companies that have had products to sell. So of course that's 21% of sales Harley Davidson have missed out on because 1 they haven't moved any product to Australia in over a year, 2 their been having computer issues & have been months behind on parts orders, 3 they've stopped designing & producing the classic Harley machine & now only stock baggers, many different colours but everything is a bagger. No Sportsters, No Classic Deluxe, No Softail Standards & definitely no Dynas. I guess they sold well so that isn't the Harley Davidson business ethos so they had to go. The best beautiful looking classic looking Harley's are now no more, it's the same bagger done in 10 different ways but it's the same bike. Baggers & that motorised push bike. A lost opportunities there, most of that 21% were new to riding, young people stepping up to bigger bikes. Australian's were given access to their superannuation & bought motorcycles but with little stock to choose from they bought what was available. Harley Davidson Australia has no BS rules & restrictions on the Iron 883 & as it's the most popular sold motorcycle in Australia, so why did you stop making it? Ridiculous!
I may be in the minority but I rode the 300SM and it felt really under powered, and I’m coming from a 500F. I’m sure if you never ever need to travel over 65 mph it’s probably fine, but it felt nearly unusable for a daily in TX.
I think that lowering the FTR DOES make it appeal to more people, although I wish that more companies would make adjusting seat-height a priority. Since I am short (28" inseam), the lower seat height appeals to me, but the FTR is just too heavy! It would need to be closer to 450lbs for me to seriously look at it. I am perfectly happy with bikes in the MT-07 and Triumph Trident power and weight range.
Could be that Triumph is feeling the effect of the silicone chip shortage and couldn't get the components to fill the dash. MSRP & Motocycle dealerships pricing needs to change. I think it would benefit the industry to adopt the auto industry non negotiable "sticker price". Moto dealerships always add on their own fees to the price tag on the bike
Idk where your from but in the USA the sticker price on cars is negotiable. Toyota did try to do that with their scion brand here but the company unfortunately folded. I would agree and would like to see that or at least prevent dealers from scalping their own base when a product they carry sells well and they decide to add a mark up just because. I understand capitalism but it takes something that may be a good deal and makes it a rip off tarnishing a brand and experience
I'd love to see android auto on the next revision on the Pan America, saves having to use proprietary satnav integrations or other stuff. Everything works great with android auto, can imagine it would end up easier in the long run with integrating other apps.
It is always a great thing to have a woman's point of view. Jen is also very qualified to have an option. She is a great addition. Now if we can just get the 2 nerdy guys to calm down and act like adults? LOL!
I like the look of the FTR, but when I rode one I was disappointed. I have an FZ-07 and I didn't feel like it was worth the extra money. It didn't feel any faster and it ran a lot hotter. Only thing I liked better was the cruise control. Not worth twice the price. So many other bikes for less money.

Motorcycle new and used sales have been fantastic in my neck of the woods down south since the pandemic.
Same up north shop I use has barley anything on the floor new or used. Ordered 2 bikes new this year took 3 months for one to come in and 4 for the other. They are looking for used bikes like crazy trying to get something to sell
@@RickyLafleur10 Yep, same down here with used bikes. It's crazy for sure, some of the dealerships seem so bare when you go in.
Kawasaki some of the best bang for the buck
@@RickyLafleur10 Couldn't agree with you more... I also have an '18 Versys 650LT for daily commuting that I am madly in love with.
@@NateB240z I currently have a 2021 Z900, a 2021 Z400, 2019 ninja 650 and a 2019 kx450. Also have a yamaha ttr125 but for the price and what you get you just can't beat kawasaki

Wayne County, New York.
Steurrys Rd. and on east to Zurich bog. Theres a 100 foot jump.
Regarding the HD Pan Am, the 1250 revolution engine can be "smallified" to a 975. There's your smaller ADV Pan Am.
CSC bought two new 400s to the USA, and Zongshen released the RE3 and RX6, which could make there way to the USA via CSC too.
Get Lemmy as a guest please
(because at 50% twist, the power map would be at 80% rates, and half throttle at 80% rates would be 40% throttle.)
so Rain mode uses Low power mode; where full throttle is still only 60% throttle.
I think *any* new supermoto on the market is a good thing! I hope the other manufacturers follow suit!
I believe HD bought MV Agusta in 2008 and then sold it in 2009. It seemed like more of a transaction and ownership deal on paper rather than HD actually taking over production and sales of MV Agusta motorcycles.
1:20:07 you were using normal rain-x formulated for glass. you have to get the stuff made for plastic.
54:50 Fun fact I'm sure Zach just forgot, the engine for the Indian FTR was designed in Switzerland by Swissauto Powersports. Welcome, Jen!
My 1st bike, 1981 Honda hawk...great bike
Indian FTR is the only bike which attracts me in the whole Indian line-up. i think it's just that it has way more modern look, everything else looks like from 40 years ago, regardless the fact they have some modern features and things like that. however, as a dude who lives in Europe the brand isn't among the possibly buying options though, but still that bike looks really cool imo.
I feel that Kawasaki could make a great super moto out of a ninja 400 engine, or maybe with the versys 650 engine.
I to have never did a triple jump but I would soon rather ride/watch the off road segment then the on road segment. There are more places to ride a street bike then a dirt bike. LOL
Great way to start the new season
Diavel, Rocket III and my bike a tad older, the 2014/15 Honda Valkyrie! :-)
really good stuff guys smooth content
Calling it now, the thing Zack is doing in Alaska is a CTXP episode riding the new Kawasaki KLR
Good conversation, but many times watching Zack and Spurgeon, I have the feeling that they try really hard not to dislike each other, or at least not to show it...
@@cowmath77 No doubt about it.
Another great podcast...
The previous MT07 had suspension issues, it had to be re-adjusted...was really hoping this new version would be "fixed" from factory
Hee Jen, a Honda Hawk like in GT650 Hawk? Check out Aaron ColtOns’ build, but you probably allready did ;) (I’m so sorry I ever sold mine years ago ). Anyway nice to see you on the show. Best wishes from The Netherlands
Yup, Aaron's Hawk is good fun!
Someone is dropping a whole lot of New England in her interview. Highfive from metrowest MA.
Ridiculous!
I was going to buy a Bronx. I was sold at the bike show.
Same. HD is fuggin up
A sub 200kg FTR 750 Indian with a 19 front and 17 rear would be sweet.
I'd love to see a small ftr like a mt-07/ trident competitor
With the FTR, see ryanf9's video on beauty as to why it looks appealing, and the new one looses that
I'd be interested in what the team at Revzilla thought about the King of the Baggers and it's current nascent state of development.
Agree with you on every point.
Pan-America 1.2: This time, make it good-looking
With Zach on the left coast and Spurgeon on the right coast, y’all should reverse sides on these videos.
What about the Honda Valkyrie as a potential option in the power-cruiser class??? Butter smooth and fast!
YES, BRING BACK THE BRONX!
Baby shampoo on the inside of your visor. The astronauts use it after the anti fog liquid blinded an astronaut on a spacewalk.
I'd love to see android auto on the next revision on the Pan America, saves having to use proprietary satnav integrations or other stuff.
Everything works great with android auto, can imagine it would end up easier in the long run with integrating other apps.
The trident is a great 1st bike
It is always a great thing to have a woman's point of view. Jen is also very qualified to have an option. She is a great addition. Now if we can just get the 2 nerdy guys to calm down and act like adults? LOL!
I like the look of the FTR, but when I rode one I was disappointed. I have an FZ-07 and I didn't feel like it was worth the extra money. It didn't feel any faster and it ran a lot hotter. Only thing I liked better was the cruise control. Not worth twice the price. So many other bikes for less money.
Sounds like Alex needs Honda to bring back the Magna. The first gen ones.
