It has been two weeks since I have used my beloved Instant pot. I thought it was broken. I was doing dishes and found a random rubber ring in my dishwater, then later found a random pin. It didn't dawn on me that it came from my instant pot lid at first. Then I was so afraid I threw out other necessary hardware by accident when I cleaned the sink. You saved my day and are my hero! Thank you.
This is a really helpful video thank you. Close up photography and clear English speech for the hard of hearing like myself made all the difference. My stovetop pressure cooker has very limited instructions, and I am hoping the float valve will work on the same principle. Linda, New Zealand.
Great video --thanks! I would add one safety tip -- if the valve gets stuck in the closed position and you can't open the lid, DON'T push down on the pin with a pencil until AFTER you have released any remaining pressure with the steam release knob.
You should never push down on the float pin when there is pressure in the pot. It can get sticky and need a tap if you are sure all pressure is gone. It should be removed and cleaned regularly.
Thanks for explaining the mechanics of this piece. The problem is solved but not by the means you recommended. I cleaned it out then accidentally dropped the valve down the disposal. DOH!!!! Wife fished it out ---WHEW! It was still malfunctioning and steam was blasting out of the hole. In frustration I lifted the whole unit couple of inches and tapped it down on the counter. BLOOP! I heard the valve seal and did the happy dance. Thanks again, can't wait for my delicious chili to finish.
Thank you so much for this video! I used my instant pot successfully for the first time tonight, but was worried because I could not see the float valve rise from the TOP of the lid! You clarified that it rises on the inside! All instructions that came with the instant pot lead me to believe that I would see it rise from the outside of the lid. When I didn't see anything rise, I was worried. I just kept letting it cook and everything turned out beautifully. I'm relieved after watching your video!
My daughter used her IP Lux today for first time. I was concerned that a part was missing from the value (my Duo has a red valve that does pot up - and since she got it in July she had no idea where the manual was!). You might want to look at the valve the next time the pressure comes up so you can discern when it's gone down. We'll do that next time as well!
Your video has really helped me today, thank you, i couldn't place my valve correctly in the rubberband till i saw your video, i have used my little finger and it has worked 😍
Thank goodness for TH-cam. Haven’t used my pressure cooker for months coz I was scared when the float valve came off. Didn’t even know what it’s called. Thank you very much
This helped me so much. I thought something was missing when I saw there was a hole on top of the lid. This is the best video. I was ready to order another one and I see now nothing was missing. I thought there would be a pop up thing like on the instapot. thanks, Sylvia
I think that must’ve been what I thought too even though I have had my instant pot for quite a while thankfully all is well and cooking in my instant pot now
Thank you. I have been looking everywhere to figure out if I lost a part off mine and found your video. I wasn't sure if something belonged in the hole on the top and you answered my question.
Ditto! I dropped my kid and thought I must’ve lost a piece. But after watching the video and cleaning the arts he showed it works perfect again! Thank you!
Thanks for this video. The first time I used the instant pot I was waiting for the float valve to pop out and when it it did not I thought something was wrong but the roast beef I was making that time came out really tender and yummy but still I was thinking something was not right with the float valve not popping up until I saw this video. Thank you so much.
Yes; I thought he explained it so well and I had no idea how to take it out to clean it! I wasn't even sure where the float valve was as I just bought mine! LOL! I love this video and the man explained it all so well; going to try oatmeal for my first try! :)
Thank you for the clear explanation. I've been unable to quick release my pressure cooker for a while now. I just found out today I shouldn't have been cooking macaroni and pasta in the pot, which I've been doing. Probably clogged up the valve. I will try your suggestion for cleaning the valve and seal.
Thank you so much for this video my float valve was stuck and I couldn’t shut the lid no matter what I tried nothing worked. I actually ran my lid under hot water making sure the hot water hit the valve for about 10 seconds then I was able to push the float valve down.
Thank you so much for the video and explanation it seemed like such a simple thing but I didn’t pay attention when I took the little valve off so I wasn’t really sure how it went back in so I had to look up TH-cam video. Also, I thought I had lost part of the float valve so I ordered a new one and putting it back together realized I had not lost anything so at least I have a spare part now if I do
My pin won't drop down on it's own after cooking so I have to tap it with a wooden spoon. This makes me anxious and cranky. Thank you for your help and reassurance with this.
The pin may have gotten sticky, especially if you cooked something starchy. You should take it apart and give it a good cleaning. Just take the little silicone cap off the end and the pin will drop right out. Clean everything well and then drop the pin in from the top and put the little cap back on.
That information on the video was very helpful my problem is on the top part of the float valve I lost somehow or other the park that attaches to the top of the float valve how do I replace that I ordered some gaskets but I cannot figure out how to put them on
Not sure what you mean by the part that attaches to the top of the float valve, you have 2 pieces the pin and the small gasket. You drop the pin from the top and put the gasket on the end.
If that can help someone: my own valve was stuck in the down position ever though I was pressing it with my finger from under the lid. I followed this video and removed the silicone cap and it was still stuck there. I decided to push down a the time on a small metal pin used to lock the lid when the pressure is up and eventually the valve fell down.
You just pull it off. If it's a little slippery you can use a kitchen towel. It takes a little force to pull it off but you won't' break anything. it just snaps back on the same way you took it off.
What about the gasket around the hole that the float valve goes into? How do you remove that? I'm talking about the piece that the float valve inserts into. The gasket between it and the lid is defective.

is this the right video for Instant Pot LUX60V3 V3 6 multi ? Can't tell in manuel which side is up, have tried both ways and nether seems to create normal pressure, with steam leaking at first
Yes, this is the Lux model. It is normal for steam to come out of the valve right before it comes to pressure. For assistance please contact our Customer Care team at the following link: www.instanthome.com/customer-care-center
so how do you know this pot as completed its natural release of pressure if there is no popped up valve on top of the lid to drop down? I have this pot (gave it to someone as a gift) and I have another one for myself. On mine the valve pops up and I can see it raised, and I can see when it drops back down again. Some recipes call for a natural release rather than manual, so how are you supposed to know it's completed its natural release with this pot?
What happens if you stick a pen in there and manually push it down before enough pressure has been released? Will it allow you to do that? Seems dangerous.
That would be dangerous, please do not try to push down on the float pin. That is merely a visual indicator of whether or not there is pressure in the pot, it is NOT meant to be used as a "button".
It isn't a cap, the entire pin is red on some models, others are silver. It's one piece with a little silicone cap, so it's highly unlikely that you are missing half.
Thank you for your question! In this case we suggest that you contact our Customer Care team through our website. We are always happy to help you! www.instanthome.com/customer-care-center
Do you mean the natural release? I can only speak to my own cooker, natural release works fine, I just leave it sitting some time after the timer runs down. Then I activate the valve to release any remaining pressure. Sorry if that's not what you were asking about.
Steam coming from around the edges is usually a sign that your seal is not seated properly. The lid won't lock until the pot is under pressure and the pin is up. If you have a bad seal, the pot can't pressurize.
I was cleaning my instant pot, turned it over to get liquid out of the groove on top and plastic chunks came out! I determined that they were from the plastic at the back of the pot - on the pot, not the lid. It blew out or broke. I know not which. I can't figure out if it's still safe to use or not. Advice, anyone?

So many years after you posted this and you came to my IP’s rescue. Thank you!
You have no idea how helpful this Video was for me today. More helpful than the Manufacturer. Thank you!!!!!!!!!👍🏼

I threw the silicone ring away!!!! I thought the instructions said to remove it. Now, I know why it doesn't work. Thank you!
Thanks for explaining the mechanics of this piece. The problem is solved but not by the means you recommended.
I cleaned it out then accidentally dropped the valve down the disposal. DOH!!!!

Me too, lol

Thank you!! I accidentally popped my valve out and thought I broke my lid. Glad I found this video.
Thanks very much for your clear & thorough explanation of the float valve!

Thanks for this video that explained the float valve clearly. I was having some problems and this video helped me tremendously.
Glad it helped
Thank you! I was about to purchase a replacement thinking it was broken! Much appreciated

This was perfect, thank you! The only video that worked for me.
Omg I thought I was the only one with that prob lol thank you so much

Thanks a million!!! So very helpful and simply explained. 👍👍🤩
Thanks so much. I couldn't figure it out until I watched your video.
Thanks! Great quick walkthrough, helped me get back to cooking right!
Thank you for posting this. I bought a Nictemaw instantapot and no help with the product that I could find. I hope this works.
Thank you very much for your explanation I was having trouble with this but with your help the problem solved thanks 👍
Good to know! I accidentally removed that little seal and pressure pin, so glad to know I didn't kill my pot!
God this made my life so much easier. Bless.
Mine too! Especially in the summer!
Thank you soo much . This is a very helpful Video 👍🏾
Thank you for these, my wife was devistated!! :D

Thank you and you have a nice voice.
How do you get the stainless steal cover off (the one that covers the parts you are looking at now? Thanks
You just pull it off. If it's a little slippery you can use a kitchen towel. It takes a little force to pull it off but you won't' break anything. it just snaps back on the same way you took it off.

Thank you for this helpful post. I got my Lux and was wondering about it.
Thank you very much for your vídeo!! I got it now!!
Great explanation
Somewhere somehow we lost the little rubber ring that holds the pin in. Any idea where I can get a replacement?

Hi, all pots have a pin that rises with pressure and falls when the pressure gone. They are different on different models, but they are there.
Thank you!!!! Very informative!!
Thank you for that info. My mom was ready to put the instant pot through a wall.
Thank you for this informative post.
Very helpful, thank you!
I don’t have the silicone seal. It’s missing. Where can I get one?
Hi Cathy, you can find sealing rings here on our website: www.instanthome.com/product/instant-pot/parts.
What happens if you stick a pen in there and manually push it down before enough pressure has been released? Will it allow you to do that? Seems dangerous.

I cooked a frozen whole chicken in my insta pot. There was steam coming out should that be
Thanks it works, but what about the delay function its useless

Steam coming from around the edges is usually a sign that your seal is not seated properly. The lid won't lock until the pot is under pressure and the pin is up. If you have a bad seal, the pot can't pressurize.

Hello, How do I get the instant pot to stop venting? It's sealing but steam is still escaping the vent? I have it turned to seal.
Hi Justa, it's best to contact support at support.instantpot.com/
Did you ever find the answer to this question Justa? I just got my instant pot today and I have the same problem!!
I had same problem but I just realized mine was on backwards from when my mom “helped” me by cleaning my pot. Note the grey part points in😜
Thank you
Thanks
Thank you! I almost throw the silicon cap 😅
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Thanks!
👍 Thx
AAAWWWW THANK YOU!
you will definitely see the valve pop out on the outside. How odd to say that you cannot.
😎😎😎
1:41, the presenter starts going OFF THE RAILS. I hope someone wasn't frustrating them at the time...
My pin isn’t moving. It won’t fall out to clean it.
Hi Francine, Have you removed the silicone backing that's on the underside of the lid?
Yes, it’s completely stuck
Hi Francine, I recommend contacting support: support.instantpot.com/ for further help.
