Would have never thought it would still sound this good in English, bravo
Singing this in English, she's a saint
Pretty ironic, since the character of Carmen is steeped in sin! 😄
In English? Brilliant, indeed!
Love is free as an eagle soaring
Across the sun too wild to tame
Even though she may hear you calling
She will not come, you call in vain
some men threaten and some men flatter
while some men wait and hold their tongue
it's the silent one I like better
He may not speak but he's the one
That's love
Oh, love
That's love
Ah, love
True love is born of fiery blood
A child of liberty without a care
If you won't love me now I love you
and when I fall in love beware
(Beware beware)
If you won't love me now, if you won't love me now I'll love you
and if I love you, if I love you beware beware
(True love is born of fiery blood
A child of liberty without a care
If you won't love me now I love you
And when I fall in love beware)
(Beware beware)
If you won't love me now, if you won't love me now I'll love you
(Beware beware)
And if I love you, if I love you beware beware
Soon that bird that you long to capture
Unfolds her wings and flies away
Watch her vanish you'll never catch her
But turn your back and she will stay
Love as swifter under the bold
she dance away then wheels around
She'll escape if you try to hold her
If you escape she'll track you down
That's love
Ah, love
That's love
That's love
(Soon that bird that you long to capture
Unfolds her wings and flies away
Watch her vanish you'll never catch her
But turn your back and she will stay)
True love is born of fiery blood
A child of liberty without a care
If you won't love me now I love you
and when I fall in love beware
(Beware beware)
If you won't love me now, if you won't love me now I'll love
and if I love you, if I love you beware beware

A child of liberty without a care
If you won't love me now I love you
and when I fall in love beware)

L'amour... L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
L'amour... Que nul ne peut apprivoiser
L'amour... Et c'est bien en vain qu'on l'appelle
L'amour...
Thank you so much for this transcription!
She's a Saint in any Language!
Beautiful rich voice. Thank you for posting.♫♪ ॐ¸¸.•*¨*•♫
Magnificent, I've never heard Carmen in English.
I first saw a local production of Carmen back in the early 80s and had only heard the French version over the years, until today! ( I was so young when I first saw it I thought was in Italian😝) but my point is today I heard it in English for the first time! Thank you so much. I crave an emotional response through music and I'm finding it's few and far between these days! Bravo. Carmen 💓Now I know the lyrics!! 🤩
BEWARE BEWARE
What an astute cocktail of deep rich tones + delicate tails at the end of higher phrases. Brava Ginger! 👏👏
I really really hope we can keep this alive throughout the ages.. true art!
I truly believe that this art form will effortlessly outlive any contemporary -and of all the commercial tripe that have assaulted our eardrums over the airwaves because in 50 years time, we'll have gladly forgotten the absolute garbage of 50 cent, professor Green, the blackout crew and the rest of the planets plant fertiliser but never the genius of bizet, mozart, and of those who have followed in their illustrious footsteps as a footnote to great taste in the finest of art -form known to mankind -that of the opera ...
Went on Friday for our 37th anniversary of our first date….married for 32 years now….saw it there a few years back. So good went back again. She is superb. The place was rammed full which is great to see.
I saw her in Carmen afew monthes ago and she was just divine, I don't know that I can even imagine a better Carmen.
4:39 Only a great performer could carry off that dramatic gesture at the end
She is the Carmen of our generation, how has the Met not given her this role
Tell Ginger that I love her beautiful singing voice!
AMAZING!!! 🤩 Her voice is captivating!!
This just made me love opera!
She makes this look effortless and makes its sound as if French was what it was dubbed to after English. Amazing!
Did I say I love this?!
I've found myself completely captivated
She is so good
Incredible performance.
This was always beautiful but to here it in English is good. But honestly the original is pure and true. Such beautiful voice. The most perfect woman to depict this.
I'm torn because this is the first time I've heard the lyrics and they are so powerful but the original is still the best. It is very difficult to translate and maintain the precise meaning and cadence.
What a strong passionate voice! Loved the performance!!
The words dig deep into my soul, longing for love but also avoiding love.....
Same.
Bravo Bravo Bravo Indeed !!!
please please please i'm dying to hear près de ramparts de séville again
I love this!!!!
Saw this performed live at the ENO on 14th Feb (2023). Highly recommended!!! 🎉
How much cost the ticket 🎟️?
@@yassinetiaret505 I paid around £102 per ticket for really good seats.
Simply awesome, I have no words.
I love “Carmen”!
Saw this live as my first opera. I am definitely coming back, just booked for Rhinegold.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Didnt understand how awesome this is until im 44
I'm 44 too and I agree. I never understood the beauty in this aria until I heard it here ...
That was beautiful! Thank you guys 👏
Saw this at the ENO on Thursday last. Wow. Stunning.
Excellently done 👏👏 Bravo

Amazing! Can’t wait to experience it at the ENO. Bought tickets in October. ❤️

Saw it on saturday. Stunning!
Stunning!!!!
Everytime, this is my song

❤😮
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎉
🥰🤧
NICE
0:53 fire alarm.
Cincinnati!! Come here and beware 😢😅😊
She is good but this aria sounds so much better in French.
Its so much better in English as we know whats going on
What an amazing voice. The aria would be even better in the opera's language, French.
En inglés???? Por favooor...
Whats the name of the singer?
Ginger Costa Jackson
I am unable to find any around my age early 20s that listen to opera. 😢
I think I prefer it in French
When I first heard this song, it was in Latin. 😁Okay, I'll leave now.
Somehow feel english language is too flat for opera and in between when pitch is modulated it sounds like normal speaking just loudly. Italian sounds something different. May be i am wrong. This is first time i am hearing in english.. italian i hear but cannot understand unfortunately, which is why wanted to hear in english.
Carmen was written by French composer Georges Bizet. Although the setting of the story is in Spain, the original language was French.
I feel the same, I want to understand the lyrics because they are fantastic (this is my 1st time hearing English lyrics, so I've never understood the song except 'love'), and yet I admit the English translation does not do the original justice.
Should that not be in french? Confusing.
Shouldn't it be in Spanish?
@@drparnassus2867 Well in a way, true. But Bizet was French.
@@drparnassus2867the original in french
@@ttimur234 I'm aware of that. An Italian-American woman playing a Spanish gypsy with an English opera company wouldn't be more authentic if she sang in French.
Love English, but this aria sounds in English not too pleasant for our ears
Better in french. It flows better
No need to sing in English. One can always read the libretto and just enjoy the original language. It never comes out the same translated.
Microphone and breathless many times it's a NO for me.
Пусть послушает Америка и забудет войну на всегда

She has a beautiful voice but I prefer the original version better! This is too English
🤮
