Something that I've come to love with Jazza's sponsored videos, is that they actually make sense, and it doesn't ever feel forced. I am subscribed to a lot of people on youtube doing sponsored videos, and so many seem to do it just because it makes money... And often the video has nothing to do with the product or ogranization that is being collaborated with. Jazza actually has a genuine interest in the sponsors, and goes into depth on why they are great, and also try out the products beforehand, to be able to give a great review. And also how he plans to not have 5 sponsored videos in a row.. haha!
Love you and your work, Jazza :)

@Débora Pinto people's random sponsors by audible are pretty annoying haha. As usually has nothing to do with the video and feels forced. Same with certain mobile games.

I never even thought about doing rough thumbnails before getting into sketching a character. I tried it out for the first time after watching this video and it has really helped. Makes it a heck of a lot less frustrating when trying to figure out what pose, body type, and possible props you want. Can't wait to get to some of the other tips!

Well at least you get a ton of time to work on art, Creepermineh. Some of us hobbyists have to balance day jobs or university as well as life, and don't get to draw nearly enough. If I had four years straight concentrating on art, I'd love it. Stressful, sure, but by the end you'll have had so much more practice than someone who didn't.

You're sure right about a platform like Skillshare being worth it.
I've been there only a couple months off an on, but I've learned quite a bit.
Stuff I've learned over years of picking TH-cam apart, nicely compiled in some of courses.
This stuff is super important for speeding up workflows.
    Nicely presented and sweet concept!
I also learned something with smart objects being affected non-destructively. That's useful.
Also a couple tips for those in the comments.
The navigator is neat for seeing the whole thing without having to zoom out all the time, but even better you can go to Window>Arrange>New Window for (document name) and you get a second window you can move out of the way. The bonus is you can do this multiple times and have different areas of your painting visible in different windows- even popping out to a second monitor if you've got it.
You can keep an eye on your values even after you move to color by going to View>Proof Setup>Custom... you get a popup and in the "Device To Simulate" dropdown you pick sGray. Now you can toggle a grayscale only view of your image with View>Proof Colors (ctrl+Y). Then you could apply this to just one of the image windows like in the previous tip.
With the dodge and burn tools, in addition to the ranges of highlights, midtones, and shadows, you can adjust the exposure of the tool to dial back the harshness.
There are soooo many tips. Just keep adding them to your mental bank as you see them and work like a pro :)

Hey, Jazza I know its impossible for you to be able to read this but if your reading this, your vids helped alot and I improved alot. Especially for the background, shading, lighting, shape and coloring. While I was watching your "my weakness"(background) video I saw you drawing from silhouette, I guess... and I gave it a shot and it turned out better than I thought. Thank you for helping not only me but lots of other people. Your a big inspiration. I congratulate you for being a successful youtuber. I'm grateful you made it this far. Have a nice day! Again, Thank You.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO JAZZA!!!!!!!! It has helped me so much already and I absolutely love using silhouettes instead of construction lines, it really helps me get proportions and poses correct in a much faster period of time, and I loved the ideo of making everything black and white first because it really helps you even out the shading before coloring it, YOU ARE THE GREATEST JAZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP IT UP!!!!! Also, i have a bunch of friends who are artsy like me, so im sharing this video with all of them because of how useful it is!

Been studying this painting approach for a long LONG ass time myself and never really understood the approach 100%, most likely due to me having a weird way understanding explanations at times. So watching yours I didn't really expect to get to know much that I had already been told or learned before, but I must admit you had me go "Ooooooh! Never looked at it like THAT before."

hi Jazza, just a suggestion with your creating characters book have you considered making an audio to the words in the book? I know that would be alot of work and time but I thought it be cool to read along as hear you read the book and id be able to pause when I need to. im so use to seeing & hearing you on youtube it just makes total sence. By the way thanks for the inspiration and giving us artists hobbyists beginner artists a push and opportunity to improve our art and just have fun doing it. also it cool know you not far from New Zealand.

We learned how to use Photoshop in school and I've been making little projects. In order to do what I wanted, I had to convert text into objects. I over complicated the process by putting all the layers into a group, merging it, converting it into a smart object, and then rasterizing it. 😂 Today I found the simpler way but I still had no idea what a smart object was until this video. Ty, Jazza.

It would be very cool to see you do background design/animation. Giving tips and tricks to make your backgrounds more dynamic and how to get them to look natural. I feel that a lot of beginning animators struggle with this. Most solo animators do focus on the character design a lot more than the other dynamics of a scene. I personally love drawing things outside of characters. I've been following your channel for years, but I am not a character animator, if anything I'd be more of a background animator, and even then I still have issues with it. My biggest problem is that my backgrounds look more like a stage than they do a scenery. I have issues getting the feeling of depth in them even when I do use perspective. It unfortunately looks more like I'm looking at a wall than a vast reaching forest or ocean.

I like the idea of basically adding shading before colour, that way there's less work to do when you get to that stage. Still a bit confused about the colour themes, however. Will probably have to watch the video again😄

Loved this video. I mainly use Illustrator to draw/design coz I'm not really much of an artist so being able to create shapes and work with that is really helpful for me, but I'm definitely gonna try and do some more drawing in Photoshop now that I've seen this.

04:51 does anyone know how you can keep the window there? Whenever I click on the image i'm working on the reference just goes behind it (so I can't see it)

    • @WebionDraws
      @WebionDraws 7 ปีที่แล้ว

+StackOfJaffas Don't know if you figured it out yet, but the reference window has to be the popped out window and the file you're working on has to be "docked" in the main Photoshop window if that makes sense
