aqw has been the game that my 4 (including me) siblings played all together. I remember being the oracle of the team and we would progress in the story together. Although aqw might be dying the memories are ones i hold closely to my heart. (sorry for being corny xd)
Y'all should check it out again. Don't listen to what everyone is saying, the game has massively improved in its recent years and is so much better. Was it late? Yes. But improved a lot nonetheless. We got tons of QoL/UI changes, special enhancements like Forge, tons of new classes and also a lot of old classes were revamped as well, bunch of dmg boost weapons.. also Ultra Bosses which are technically boss raids. Even got a dash mechanic now via spacebar.
5500 players active right now, and with the move to the new game engine and a multi-platform release of AQW: Infinity there is about to be a huge influx of new players. Give it time, hopefully AE is able to pump out the new engine update before to long.

i think a lot of people are HEAVILY underplaying what makes aqw so special in the first place, its charm and how endearing it and the world and lore is, or at least thats what brought me into the game like 12 years ago when i was a KID, and mobile is the platform a lot of kids play their games on. mmorpgs with simple combat systems are already extremely popular on mobile, i could 1000% see a resurgence of new players, especially if they focus on streamlining players to actually explore the game and do the story instead of just rushing to the end game

Friday is probably the day with the lowest player count as Saturday is when the update hits each week so everyone grids the new event over the weekend and you can normally do everything by the end of Sunday so there isn't much reason to play from Monday through Friday
AQW was definitely peak when you needed people to complete the boss kill quests and etc. (CHAOS saga) Bro I just feel like AE is all over the place man. With games like Wuthering Waves popping off, who in their right mind will pick up AQW as their new game? I'm like a 15 years old player of AQW, even I had to take a break now because it's too grindy. If I spend most of my time playing AQW, I won't get anything done in my real life. It's a game that you can enjoy playing all the time if you have generational wealth, have businesses that generate money on their own with you having to do nothing or have a remote job that's mostly consultation for projects & not actually actively doing things in the project. In short, you need free time. Time is the major thing that made me quit. I can't do illustrations, produce music, make animations [all the things I do] if I stick to playing AQW. The endgame items grind is so time consuming. I last played the game during Dage's birthday. Will probably come back during TLAPD & Anni. But that's all the time I can give. I hope the game doesn't die though. It's been a major part of my life.
They should have more content creators that covers the lore and fun things for the game to get players involved rather than just end game stuff all the time. A perfect example would be Shiminuki

For rest its just a case of having a playable class+scroll/ench combo (like hp steal for Dage) and thats almost all, sadly. But then they cant make them more complex if game barely runs in 20-30fps with everything disabled. Thats sad
as a "returning player" the game in some aspects just demands far too much, and in others demands very little so it's a frustrating dynamic, like for example i wanted to grind out legion rev, i did the entire first fealty quest which took me a looooong time, just to find out i need to repeat those quests like 5-10x each..... i absolutely see exactly why the game is dying so much and why so many people resort to botting, spending literal days of your time to get a piece of a puzzle is just not worth it in any regard, i say this as i was rank 6 good rep and finished off rank 10 and got archpaladin yesterday, all within a days work... yet for another class i need to sell both kidneys, half my liver, both my legs and my soul for it.
Hope you do a separate video tutorial of Archpaladin, LoO, Legion Revenant, and SC for killing Ultraspeaker. It's really hard for us a solo player with no friends.
Main part back in the day no1 knew anything about enhancements people ran full fighter healer rogue or mage on specific classes but now days its mainly just wiz, luck, healer i remember back in the day once you got necromancer, troll spellsmith, VoT all could solo most bosses but it was really slow but was possible and thats also when people ran bad enhancement recommendations on classes or would mix in some bad ones.
Despite how many people play, I'm just super happy that this game is still up AND getting updates. 7 months ago I was sure that the game had been dead alongside Flash, much to my surprise when I logged in on a very stressful day. It has been my comfort game every day since.
if only they could work harder on making AQW INFINITY so that we can play it on our mobile phones soon. It could potentially balloon the player count up.

Ngl the game has a strong player base compared to most AAA games after a few years which is super cool but at the same time content-wise, feels a bit lack luster to me personally and as much as I love/loved playing the game as a kid and making content it gets super repetitive and a lot of the content pushed out are just kinda a little area with a few quests. Overall there's a bunch of really good things about the game I like but at the same time there's only so far they can push the current game and just need to try their best with infinity to grab more/new players to join in when the full release comes out. Wish some more aspects were actually fleshed out more for nowadays like PvP in other MMORPG's (FFXIV/WoW) and rewards gotten through leaderboards, achievement points, a working book of lore etc. etc.
If AQ Infinity actually comes out I imagine the game will come back to its glory days. Id imagine that project is years from releasing, but its nice to know they are doing something to revive the game and fix its issues.

Its true for ultra boss, most the player like it for the game being cooperative but its also its weakness, most player only doing it in friday reset (yeah good luck finding party in any other day) and trying to complete all weekly ultras in one day is frustrating and not to mention finding party and decent room in every bosses.
more features, an *improved" rewarding system, worthwhile adventures, interesting storylines, interactive dialogues with NPCs and environment, etc. might just do the trick. 60fps and updated artwork is insufficient--its good but it aint enough. hope aq infinity does better and implement drastic changes to the game fr. and you might be right about how everyone can just solo everything bc endgame players just go to yulgar and afk. but what abt players who cant solo right?--they are left behind without any help and so few of them exploring w/o others to accompany them. i suppose this lonely grind make them quit the game. this needs to be addressed as well. i hope the team does surveys as well to know the plight of its players and those who would be interested in playing the game; they need to be more in-touch with its player base instead of releasing weeksly stuff ++ also think the weekly releases does not help the game at all
probably because of how people grew, wanting more, in terms of content, graphics, and how much available the game could be, especially not all has access to PC/Laptops. AQW Infinity is the key.

AQW has BEEN dead for a long time the sheer number of players who bot vs actually play is astounding. You cant really blame them either the AQW grinds arent fun or rewarding in almost any way the game is a collectathon with an ancient flash era rpg attached to it. The time-gating added to almost everything makes the game feel like a chore rather than something to actually look forward to playing. My account is nearing its 13th birthday ive been here for a very long time and its sad to see the game go but none of the players who are still around want to spend tens to hundreds of hours clicking the same 4 buttons on LR until theyve collected enough random items to buy another cosmetic that got added and would rather just let a bot do it. Even with botting grinds in this game take a long time and bots can grind FAR more efficiently than any human player can which should give anyone a good picture of just how bad the grinds are in this game.
Being optimistic will not save Aqw, lets be real here, we old players love the game because how simple it was back then. Then long grinds with ultras came, players accepted it, yet getting fustrated because of, well how freaking annoying this grinds are. But all gone down, quitting players etc, after ultra speaker came, you know why?
I stopped playing 2019. At the time I was semi actively making content but seeing the stagnating growth I just decided it was worth the game grind and the content grind anymore. The game lacks anything meaningful to want to stay in the game since most players play friday and the weekends to finish the new update.
If aq infinity release players will be disappointed and aq infinity will fail they should just make it semi afk game! Considering how long it take to farm classes and item we don't want to play an active game when it's not As fluid and beautiful as arpg i mean look at grandchase mobile! My account turns 15 in September and I cant even describe how disappointed I am with how the game was handled by AE over years. It was never a great game, but it feels like they put almost 0 effort into fixing any issues that were there for years. I find it ridiculous how long it took them to make cosmetic slots in game about collecting cool-looking gear, AFTER MAKING BOOSTED GEAR?
The issue with the game is the scope creep, theres too much for people to have to do now that the game has gotten 15+ years of conent. As you said, no new players will be willing to do this. Java should have been solved during COVID - even with 2-3 programmers working fulltime they should have had this done by now. One patch at a time, no need for all content day 1. AQWI really needs to come out soon, and I hope they force a hardreset and give people just their cosmetics, so they need to play the game release by release again. This is what people want just like OSRS hence why its been so successful. AE needs a change in mentality or a change in management at this point or nothing will last another decade like the last decade.
Well, I miss the time when I could use the bot client. I often manually activate botting to do boring and repetitive tasks and quests (such as daily quests) and play it normally when I want to play or finish a story.
I remember playing aqw as a kid, all the servers were full, I found it from an advertisement on kongregate and was hooked, but the new player retention has always been bad. The grind is boring when there’s nothing to the combat, you learn how to use 4 skills in conjunction and that’s all there is to combat. AQ3D is the same way, no skill involved just brainless grind. Wonder if they could make an action combat game but probably too complex for the devs to learn.
Its one heart attack away from dying. Doubt they are gonna fix things in aq infinity and higher chances they are gonna do "ooooh look new feature, new ac gears, new harder farm, and old memes love us more".
I play on and off for the past 4 years ever since pandemic after not been playing for about 8 years. I think the only problem is the inability to play it smoothly especially in a crowded map and it's been like this ever since the dawn of aqw hopefully aq infinity will fix this tho
Its weird because I actually do like the super tedious grinding. Maybe because its how simple it is to just spam 2 or 3, I can play the game while doing something more important, and feel like I got some progress done afterwards. Killing the 100k monsters needed for LR was much easier when it was during lockdown classes. If anyone here is also into Gacha stuff, I'd equate this game to DBZ Dokkan Battle. That game is also like 95% grind, but because its so simple in that grind (literal bubble popping game), its easy to just have it as a side thing while doing main work. And then the last 5% is the actual difficult content, where you can see the true depths of the game. I do still think more things could be available than just Ultras, like PvP, but stuff like that requires a massive overhaul that I'm not sure AE could do by AQ2D's launch. I hate using the p word, but I do see potential that 2D has by both running well, and being a part mobile game. Simple grinding is a lot easier on your phone, after all. I'm a F2P, so I haven't played the new combat system to really see, but I just hope AE doesnt sacrifice the combat's simplicity for more depth, especially on mobile.
There's been a lot of better F2P games that have been coming out that run on low end systems so at this point the only thing holding this game together is chatrooms and nostalgia. The artstyle is way too much of a mess for me to get interested in the newer stuff with cohesion just thrown out the window. They seem to misunderstand why people played AQW over other MMOs in the past and have been trying to make the game some grindfest like Runescape when, as an original player, I liked AQW as a MMO-lite where I can experience co-operative play without having to be ultra invested - I mean rallying random people from Yulgar to slay the Red Dragon is iconic for a reason. If I didn't still have the login to my 09 account this game would've been a distant dream to me.
The game is barely hanging around, if AE still wants to keep this game alive, he gotta pump on something. Crazy updates every weekend. People will just log in, check the new map update, and hit few monsters and then afterwards “meh, this game boring” and logs out.
ill summarize my opinion: 1. Grinding = there should be another way to get all end games items without relying on ultra bosses. 2. Ultra Bosses = are way unnecessarily hard that mostly hardcore player would do. 3. Classes = it should be all equal and its up to the player on what flavor they want it and not just end game classes. 4. and lastly more enchantment and damage bonus items that compliment other classes and not just make already great class greater.

This game was dead since the purge then arise again, then fall dead when they release ultra boss. Mostly, this game runs on a single player because some are afk all the time.
I caught up on all content that isn't "collect a billion bear asses" in the game in a few months after years of not playing. The game could probably pull in some new younger players to improve the games lifespan with some advertising, but ultimately it just needs anything to actually do that isn't mind-numbing repetition

Ultra Bosses aren't the problem for me. It's about requiring literally EVERYONE having scroll of enrage to flawlessly time the taunt. Guess what you need more time to find the right people to play with you than defeating the speaker itself.
They could put trading feature for items between players. They could make every in game item is all unique, have unique effect and stats. The rely it too much on the enhancement scroll and just drop all the items default

as a "returning player" the game in some aspects just demands far too much, and in others demands very little so it's a frustrating dynamic, like for example i wanted to grind out legion rev, i did the entire first fealty quest which took me a looooong time, just to find out i need to repeat those quests like 5-10x each..... i absolutely see exactly why the game is dying so much and why so many people resort to botting, spending literal days of your time to get a piece of a puzzle is just not worth it in any regard, i say this as i was rank 6 good rep and finished off rank 10 and got archpaladin yesterday, all within a days work... yet for another class i need to sell both kidneys, half my liver, both my legs and my soul for it.
Hope you do a separate video tutorial of Archpaladin, LoO, Legion Revenant, and SC for killing Ultraspeaker. It's really hard for us a solo player with no friends.
Join a guild. There are lots of guilds out there that help with ultras like Ultra Run Devil's or Dracul
Main part back in the day no1 knew anything about enhancements people ran full fighter healer rogue or mage on specific classes but now days its mainly just wiz, luck, healer i remember back in the day once you got necromancer, troll spellsmith, VoT all could solo most bosses but it was really slow but was possible and thats also when people ran bad enhancement recommendations on classes or would mix in some bad ones.
Despite how many people play, I'm just super happy that this game is still up AND getting updates. 7 months ago I was sure that the game had been dead alongside Flash, much to my surprise when I logged in on a very stressful day. It has been my comfort game every day since.
if only they could work harder on making AQW INFINITY so that we can play it on our mobile phones soon. It could potentially balloon the player count up.

@@Guillester_ Eso ya no se puede, el juego debe traducir 15 (casi 16) años de contenido, y hacerlo con algun programa resultara en problemas de traduccion, y no tienen suficiente dinero como para contratar traductores. La unica esperanza para quienes quieren el juego en español, es AQW: Infinity.

aqw will last, as more new games come out more people seem to complain and just go back to older games. I think Aqw will survive with maybe 120-140 players in next 5 years
Ngl the game has a strong player base compared to most AAA games after a few years which is super cool but at the same time content-wise, feels a bit lack luster to me personally and as much as I love/loved playing the game as a kid and making content it gets super repetitive and a lot of the content pushed out are just kinda a little area with a few quests. Overall there's a bunch of really good things about the game I like but at the same time there's only so far they can push the current game and just need to try their best with infinity to grab more/new players to join in when the full release comes out. Wish some more aspects were actually fleshed out more for nowadays like PvP in other MMORPG's (FFXIV/WoW) and rewards gotten through leaderboards, achievement points, a working book of lore etc. etc.
If AQ Infinity actually comes out I imagine the game will come back to its glory days. Id imagine that project is years from releasing, but its nice to know they are doing something to revive the game and fix its issues.
AQ has kept a fairly consistent player base tbf, but it's gonna grow and drop a bit.

Its true for ultra boss, most the player like it for the game being cooperative but its also its weakness, most player only doing it in friday reset (yeah good luck finding party in any other day) and trying to complete all weekly ultras in one day is frustrating and not to mention finding party and decent room in every bosses.

more features, an *improved" rewarding system, worthwhile adventures, interesting storylines, interactive dialogues with NPCs and environment, etc. might just do the trick. 60fps and updated artwork is insufficient--its good but it aint enough. hope aq infinity does better and implement drastic changes to the game fr. and you might be right about how everyone can just solo everything bc endgame players just go to yulgar and afk. but what abt players who cant solo right?--they are left behind without any help and so few of them exploring w/o others to accompany them. i suppose this lonely grind make them quit the game. this needs to be addressed as well. i hope the team does surveys as well to know the plight of its players and those who would be interested in playing the game; they need to be more in-touch with its player base instead of releasing weeksly stuff ++ also think the weekly releases does not help the game at all

probably because of how people grew, wanting more, in terms of content, graphics, and how much available the game could be, especially not all has access to PC/Laptops. AQW Infinity is the key.
Plus there's no point actually grinding end game items when others just bot for it, it feels unfair
they promised to make aqworlds mobile and it hasn't been released for like 10 years now. so how can you expect the game enjoyable and improving if the devs don't make up to their promises ?

AQW has BEEN dead for a long time the sheer number of players who bot vs actually play is astounding. You cant really blame them either the AQW grinds arent fun or rewarding in almost any way the game is a collectathon with an ancient flash era rpg attached to it. The time-gating added to almost everything makes the game feel like a chore rather than something to actually look forward to playing. My account is nearing its 13th birthday ive been here for a very long time and its sad to see the game go but none of the players who are still around want to spend tens to hundreds of hours clicking the same 4 buttons on LR until theyve collected enough random items to buy another cosmetic that got added and would rather just let a bot do it. Even with botting grinds in this game take a long time and bots can grind FAR more efficiently than any human player can which should give anyone a good picture of just how bad the grinds are in this game.
Being optimistic will not save Aqw, lets be real here, we old players love the game because how simple it was back then. Then long grinds with ultras came, players accepted it, yet getting fustrated because of, well how freaking annoying this grinds are. But all gone down, quitting players etc, after ultra speaker came, you know why?

I stopped playing 2019. At the time I was semi actively making content but seeing the stagnating growth I just decided it was worth the game grind and the content grind anymore. The game lacks anything meaningful to want to stay in the game since most players play friday and the weekends to finish the new update.

My account turns 15 in September and I cant even describe how disappointed I am with how the game was handled by AE over years. It was never a great game, but it feels like they put almost 0 effort into fixing any issues that were there for years. I find it ridiculous how long it took them to make cosmetic slots in game about collecting cool-looking gear, AFTER MAKING BOOSTED GEAR?
The issue with the game is the scope creep, theres too much for people to have to do now that the game has gotten 15+ years of conent. As you said, no new players will be willing to do this. Java should have been solved during COVID - even with 2-3 programmers working fulltime they should have had this done by now. One patch at a time, no need for all content day 1.
AQWI really needs to come out soon, and I hope they force a hardreset and give people just their cosmetics, so they need to play the game release by release again. This is what people want just like OSRS hence why its been so successful. AE needs a change in mentality or a change in management at this point or nothing will last another decade like the last decade.

Well, I miss the time when I could use the bot client. I often manually activate botting to do boring and repetitive tasks and quests (such as daily quests) and play it normally when I want to play or finish a story.
My aq3d friends say that they will play on aq infinity only when it’s out cz aqw is laggy and not worth it for them
I remember playing aqw as a kid, all the servers were full, I found it from an advertisement on kongregate and was hooked, but the new player retention has always been bad. The grind is boring when there’s nothing to the combat, you learn how to use 4 skills in conjunction and that’s all there is to combat. AQ3D is the same way, no skill involved just brainless grind. Wonder if they could make an action combat game but probably too complex for the devs to learn.

I play on and off for the past 4 years ever since pandemic after not been playing for about 8 years. I think the only problem is the inability to play it smoothly especially in a crowded map and it's been like this ever since the dawn of aqw hopefully aq infinity will fix this tho
Its weird because I actually do like the super tedious grinding. Maybe because its how simple it is to just spam 2 or 3, I can play the game while doing something more important, and feel like I got some progress done afterwards. Killing the 100k monsters needed for LR was much easier when it was during lockdown classes.
If anyone here is also into Gacha stuff, I'd equate this game to DBZ Dokkan Battle. That game is also like 95% grind, but because its so simple in that grind (literal bubble popping game), its easy to just have it as a side thing while doing main work. And then the last 5% is the actual difficult content, where you can see the true depths of the game. I do still think more things could be available than just Ultras, like PvP, but stuff like that requires a massive overhaul that I'm not sure AE could do by AQ2D's launch.
I hate using the p word, but I do see potential that 2D has by both running well, and being a part mobile game. Simple grinding is a lot easier on your phone, after all. I'm a F2P, so I haven't played the new combat system to really see, but I just hope AE doesnt sacrifice the combat's simplicity for more depth, especially on mobile.
There's been a lot of better F2P games that have been coming out that run on low end systems so at this point the only thing holding this game together is chatrooms and nostalgia. The artstyle is way too much of a mess for me to get interested in the newer stuff with cohesion just thrown out the window. They seem to misunderstand why people played AQW over other MMOs in the past and have been trying to make the game some grindfest like Runescape when, as an original player, I liked AQW as a MMO-lite where I can experience co-operative play without having to be ultra invested - I mean rallying random people from Yulgar to slay the Red Dragon is iconic for a reason. If I didn't still have the login to my 09 account this game would've been a distant dream to me.

The game is barely hanging around, if AE still wants to keep this game alive, he gotta pump on something. Crazy updates every weekend. People will just log in, check the new map update, and hit few monsters and then afterwards “meh, this game boring” and logs out.

ill summarize my opinion:
1. Grinding = there should be another way to get all end games items without relying on ultra bosses.
2. Ultra Bosses = are way unnecessarily hard that mostly hardcore player would do.
3. Classes = it should be all equal and its up to the player on what flavor they want it and not just end game classes.
4. and lastly more enchantment and damage bonus items that compliment other classes and not just make already great class greater.
So you want Oracle, an absolutely free class to be equal with Legion Revenant to farm good, end-game items? Is that what you're saying?

I caught up on all content that isn't "collect a billion bear asses" in the game in a few months after years of not playing. The game could probably pull in some new younger players to improve the games lifespan with some advertising, but ultimately it just needs anything to actually do that isn't mind-numbing repetition
game is basically an afk game at this point, the grind is soooooo repetitive, it would be fine for it to be quite grindy but atleast make it not an afk game.

Ultra Bosses aren't the problem for me. It's about requiring literally EVERYONE having scroll of enrage to flawlessly time the taunt. Guess what you need more time to find the right people to play with you than defeating the speaker itself.
The game is data is beyond huge, thats why it will be impossible to make new development to the game
They could put trading feature for items between players. They could make every in game item is all unique, have unique effect and stats. The rely it too much on the enhancement scroll and just drop all the items default
