I dig the Facsimile Editions... I have; ROM #1, Micronauts #1, Daredevil #183 and The X-Men #129 Facsimile Editions all on order in the next couple of months. I do wish that Marvel would do X-Men #50 and #51 in the format.... I wish they also were still doing the $1 True Believer reprints for issues that are interesting or related to something current in the comics because plenty of people would pick those up... Marvel could also drive engagement by having some sort of on line polls asking what books people want given Facsimile Editions...
Marvel and DC are really leaning into these facsimile reprints recently. I recently picked up the Death of Gwen Stacey issues for a re-read of Marvels. DC does well reprinting old Golden age issues as well, on non-glossy paper as well which is a plus. Every month theres at least a few new reprints solicited.
I think and wish I could get to some decision makers that they should make more reprint issues for cheaper and get them to new readers. What ever they reprint the work is done and paid for itself the follow ups are in the the wild in some form or another. Give a cut to the original creative team if it sell real well. Get new reader to get more.
@@jcandramNo doubt bro! In 2017 Marvel did a bunch of True Believer reprints that were $1 a piece. They weren't facsimile, but I didn't care man. Snatched them bad boys up. That was perfect for new readers to wet their beaks. So it's been done and the model exists.......but I think speculators were reselling them at ridiculous prices, I wonder if that had an impact for Marvels pricing model going forward.
When I worked for Todd, I was gathering art (including this page) for a gallery show he had in NY and, since these pages were kept in a cardboard box (that a microwave came in, I believe) with no top, pieces if the photocopied background on the last page had come off and I had to search for and re-paste them on before the show. Also, that background is a cityscape from Akira.
A little bit of context to Jim’s point of it being the 25th Anniversary- Because this is a facsimile edition, that’s how the book originally looked, so the 25th anniversary tag is celebrating Spider-man’s 25th anniversary. At this point, the book’s almost 35 years old!
Suggestion for a future show. When certain penciller/inker team-ups go wrong. The mini-series I saw recently that inspired it and is a prime example: Cyclops pencilled by Mark Texeira and inked by Jimmy Palmiotti
Book suggestion: Black Bolt Hard Time Vol.1 by Saladin Ahmed & Christian Ward. Maybe a controversial pick but the art in that book is so impactful, unique and energetic. I think you'd both have a good time looking at those pictures. Love the channel. Love the deep dives. Thanks for doing what you do.
Nice coincidence! We just graded out our two Spidey 300s from our comic book store stock we just got out of storage after 35 years. By my harsh grading, both are 9.6 to 9.8
Love all of this…. Every bit… however, the way Jim says “biwwdings” for the word buildings drives me nutty, lol. Sorry Jim… I’m in no way perfect… it’s just a thing I noticed. 😂
Try and grab all the facsimiles when I can both dc and marvel have been putting them out over the past few years. Collect the true believers and image firsts too
I think most if not all of these facsimile editions have the original ads in them. I bought a reprint of “Vengeance of Bane” that had ads for SNES games in it and I noticed them in the reprint of Giant Size X-Men #1 too. I like these reprints, it’s a fun way to experience these comics that I will definitely never spend the money to own the originals of.
They've been publishing more and more of these reprint issues over the last couple of years. I've read that a lot of times these sell better than a lot of their newer books.
DC recently put out a facsimile of Omega Men #3 first appearance of Lobo. IMO the paper and color are nicer on the DC facsimile editions. It’s closer to newsprint. The issues that Marvel has chosen to reprint are great but I wish the color wasn’t so bright and glossy
The true believers reprints only print the story and not all the ads and other stuff. Your point of it being too expensive at $6.99 is still absolutely correct 😂
I own an original print 300 in mint condition. Bought it for $30 in 1997 at a comic shop in Memphis when I was about 12 hrs old. Never opened it up cause I knew what it was when I bought it lol. Probably one of my most prized possessions as a huge McFarlane/Venom/Spidey fan.
An amazing look at an amazing book! I’ve always been of the mindset that 299 is the real full appearance of venom but 300 is the far better issue! It’s crazy to think that in 35 years we went from 300, the 25th ani issue to 900+ of asm
I've always assumed the church scenes from ASM 300 were a throw back to when Spidey originally defeated the symbiote in Web of Spider-Man #1.
Same here. :)
Yup!

I literally bought this today came home fired up kayfabe and here we go
Hey have you guys already done Bill Sienkiewicz New Mutants? If not please do!
Didn't you just love how Spidey was able to seemingly break into FF hq to borrow that ray gun without tripping any alarms.
Nice coincidence! We just graded out our two Spidey 300s from our comic book store stock we just got out of storage after 35 years. By my harsh grading, both are 9.6 to 9.8
Reading the cover like it’s 25 years from now. It’s 25 years from when the issue came out…
Love all of this…. Every bit… however, the way Jim says “biwwdings” for the word buildings drives me nutty, lol. Sorry Jim… I’m in no way perfect… it’s just a thing I noticed. 😂
Order of operations.
1. Like it.
2. Watch it.
3. Love it!

Is that comic not like 35 years old at this point?

299 was first appearance tho. A 3 panel cameo shot of him introducing himself to mj on the final page
Glad you guys covered this one. Will you guys be coming to Phoenix comic-con in any of these coming years? Just curious.
Another great story by David Michelinie.
Would love to see you guys review something from Brian Stelfreeze!

I so miss Spidey being in the black costume. What a mistep to put him back in the red and blues.
Shout out to Pittsburghese n'at! 😂

35th anniversary surely?
Eddie Brock blames Spider-Man for his failed career as a journalist and the alien symbiote hates spider-Man for discarding it
For decades I thought it was "Russian Attack."
How bout JSC Danger girl sketchbook
$6.99!? WFT??
They had released this a couple years ago under the True Believers banner as Spider-Man vs Venom for $1.00
The true believers reprints only print the story and not all the ads and other stuff. Your point of it being too expensive at $6.99 is still absolutely correct 😂
OMG YESSSS

do u think McFarland will ever do a venom spawn cross over?
the one thing he's been consistent on is not going back to Marvel, and he doesn't really need to, but it would sure be cool.
Awesome book! I loved it so much, I purchased 2 copies at the time and I still own them.
am i the only comic book geek who hates venom?
This was a fun watch before cutting the grass.
desperately wish these reprint(s?) were oversized
My first Spider-man 😍
