That is a fantastic setup! Well done. Ant Cube equipment looks really good. I do prefer the setup where you can look inside as I really like to know and observe what my ants are doing, so I can learn more about them. But this naturalistic setup is great 👍🏼
Did you say you added poison ivy to the vivarium? If so I’m very curious why poison ivy rather than a plant where there’s no risk of having outbreaks do you and with that same thinking does the poisonous secretion from the ivy not affect the ants? Or is this particular any species keen on poison ivy? This is very interesting
Wow awesome viviarium you got there! Hey just a tip, ants can see threw red flim but it makes the light less harsh on them, just think of it as.. dimming the lights. But it doesn't have to be red it could be any colour like lets say.. Purple but yeah they can see threw it but if you wre gonna keep them in a nest like that with red flim it's best that you put them in a semi dark spot but while of course still being able to observe them.
6:54 I had a lid on, as well as I said " as they can't see red light that well" :) I think however that it also depends on species a bit, some of mine dont react at aaall under red light, some do react a bit. But are you sure its just a dimmer? Not that its actually the wavelength?
@@AntsScandinavia yeah it's just a dimmer, it acts the same way for ants as it does for us, possibly some species don't reactbecause their eyes aren't as sensitve as other species.
if they are weavers you should swap out your tree for something more bushy and with much larger leaves they use nymphs to make a glue to weave a single leaf into a chamber....
