I was twelve when The John Gary Show aired in the summer of 1966. I used to watch his show with my parents. We had a black and white television set. Wow, watching it in color for the first time was great. The talent and entertainment on his weekly variety show were top notch even in black and white. John Gary is truly missed.
I’m 76 years old but when I was seventeen I discovered John Gary and became a lifelong fan. He passed away in 1998 but with the internet, his angelic voice and heartwarming songs will always be remembered generation after generation. All love from Miami Beach, Florida, Al
I also like John Gary and attended one of his concerts in Toronto. Unfortunately, he was suffering from sciatica (I believe) but he played guitar and led us through a medley of songs that we all sang. He also pointed out that when singing words like “I want you” not to make those words sound like “I wan tchew” which is exactly what most singers do. And it’s nice to be able to listen to him on the internet- a voice from heaven. 🎶♥️🌹🇨🇦
@@dianapollmann2491 Thanks for responding. Yes, John sang all the great ones-and better than most professional vocalists. A few of my favorites “ once upon a time” “ if you love me ( really love me) “ autumn leaves” “ the sound of music” All love from Miami Beach, Florida, Al
John Gary is unfortunately, not known to people younger than us. What a talent! My aunt said he was the last of the great crooners. The British Invasion and his unwillingness to put career and touring over family hurt his career although he did have a good career nevertheless. He sometimes subbed for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. He was very funny. Did a great Paul Lynde and John Wayne impression. And he wrote some beautiful songs and some hip do-wop ones too.
I have known him since the sixties as a child my mom was a fan club member . I remember going to shows and have memories of seeing him. Still have pictures of him and me. The kindness person you could ever meet. John Gary was a beautiful soul and should never be forgotten ❤
You need to get his Christmas album. I grew up with it, and our entire family have copies we play while opening gifts. He had an amazing vocal quality, range and beauty to his singing,(much like Linda Eder) that he leaves you spellbound and wanting more:)
While I don't remember this episode, I do remember John Gary's show. This is just absolutely beautiful and wonderful! Many memories of these performers I have of John, Vikki and Roger during a time when there was true talent in Hollywood and wonderful TV shows like this one. Thank you for posting this!!
I hope the ladies in the group, 'The Toys' got to see this episode of this show sometime. It's amazing how much better it sounds in 4/4 than in 3/4. I still grieve John's death.
As he does so amazingly well... great segues into combinations of wonderful songs. Again, a delightful sample and example of a golden age of music and entertainment. I could sure go for more of this today! 🎹❤️🎵🎶🌟🎉🎊
Wonderful to finally find a lengthy clip from the John Gary Show!! About 5 years ago there were several long playing clips from John's 12 shows which made up the Summer of 1966 replacement for the Danny Kaye show... This clip is from the second show of the all too brief series-which aired 6/29/66 .Please Please put more of the John Gary Show on you tube!!! ... JimB
Yes, he was wonderful. I only have the show with Roger's 3 performances that we have on this TH-cam channel. I will put in a good word for you if I can...Best.
I think being a baby boomer and a senior in highschool, it was a critical moment in time when we were torn on staying with these show tunes and classical music and the new rock n roll. Some of us chose them both. What went unnoticed is that the soon to follow generations would unknowingly be separated from the basic guiding themes this now mature Country would go through. This was the moments in time when the division and moral standards were set in motion. For me it came as a severe shock, because I would soon take my place in support and defense of Freedom in Vietnam, only to come home to a Country that had Radically Changed. What was believed to be loyalty and patriotism had suddenly been perceived as ancient, immoral and square. Believe me when I say some of us suffered from a dual PTSD. Even that was so divided that it wasn't to ever be believed. I tell you this music is maybe the one thing that can revive the feelings some of us had before the 1960's came along. There is something in this music that reaches the soul and for the People that really know God, it moves the Holy Spirit within us and can even bring us to tears of joy.
Only 9 of the 12 JOHN GARY SHOWS of 1966 have survived. CBS gave JG the tapes & in the 1990's he sold them on video cassettes & later on dvds through his fan club. His widow LEE GARY is now in her early 90's & no longer handles sales of John's video & audio music.
Williams and Carr were great artists, also Peter Nero, Ferrante & Teicher or Liberace. We had good music at that time, but nowadays most performances are shit with many show and small voices.....
We lived through the Golden Age of music and movies and I agree that today’s singers just aren’t up to the standards back then. I have discovered Asian singers - I don’t understand the words, but then I don’t understand our American songs either. The difference is the VOICES, the Harmony, Tone, Comeraderie. They call their music POPERA - a cross-over of Pop and Opera. They are mostly between 17 and 30 years old. If you want a treat look on TH-cam for AYANGA, IM TAE-KYUNG, KO EUN-SUNG, (these three have also appeared in Musicals - Roméo and Juliette, Jesus Christ Super Star, etc). The quartets are magnificent - QUATTRO DI FORTE, LETTEAMOR, FORESTELLA. DIMASH (Kazakhstan) is in a class by himself . He was invited to sing at Pres. Biden’s inauguration. And there are Many more.

Where can I listen to more clips of John Gary’s shows???😅😂
Unfortunately, I don't know...
His wife and family had a web site and sold recordings, etc but they may have passed away, as I can no longer find it. Most info is on youtube.
