You two have such a great outlook on life. I'm 57 and am looking for the freedom that you have already discovered. You are WAY ahead of me. I wish you the best. Tad
You two are great. I have lived aboard a bout for 12 years and have no desire to buy another house. It's really like being on vacation year round. Love it.
This is one of the best "live aboard" videos I have ever seen. It's great to see young couples really do what the want to do and take the leap to move in to a boat. Congrats with your choice of lifestyle! When I retire, I will do the same! Fair winds! :-)
Excellent post guys i lived aboard my 36ft tri with my wife and two kids for 2 and a half years and like you we stayed in a small marina with about 8 other liveaboards it was great we treated each other like humans are suppose too we had BBQ,s in summer most friday nights and we were there for each other it was a special time of our life we still have the boat but are now housebound but we will get back out there, enjoy yourselves fair wind & smooth seas regards Andy
Kudos to you too. I say live your dreams and do what makes y'all happy. anybody that says you can't raise a family on a boat has never been to the Orient. many a happy family raised on the water in a lot of places on this earth. God Bless y'all!!
You two are great ! I to am a live a board for over 12 years and have positively no desire to move back a shore. This live style isn't for everyone and that's what I really love about it. Security is great at our marina and we have less theft problems than most upscale sub divisions. Everyone knows each other and keeps an eye on your things when your're away. My boat is 30 years old but in excellent condition with marine air conditioning and heating which easily keeps the boat comfortable on the hottest and coldest days.Dry dock is not required where I'm located during winter months. My waterfront property is 20,000 acres that in just a few minutes I can untie ropes, disconnect shore power and go see any part of it I wish. I'm subject to cruise at any time day or night year round. No red lights. No traffic jams. Can cruise to the Gulf of Mexico then thousands of miles in any direction.
Great to share your dreams and happiness with us. May you fulfill your dreams togather, wow what an adventure you will be able to tell to your grandchildren. Portland is a great town as I worked up that way on a ship salvage job not too long ago, and the people there were some of the friendliest I have ever met. I would love to one day sail there. thanks again.
Wish I had bought a boat to live on when I was single and lived in San Francisco. Thanks for posting this video, great info. I am defiantly interested in finding one.
We have a 100 watt solar panel that we got last winter and installed before our trip... soooo worth the investment! We love that solar panel! We never ran the engine exclusively for power reasons, and didn't plug in from June until October! Awesome!
Great job on the video/interview, John! I especially like your intro peice on the recent videos. Makes me get to thinking . . . ;-) Sophie & Travis - DO IT, DO IT, DO IT! Go, cruise, live life, follow your dreams!! Best of luck to you both - and we want to see YOUR vids from your great adventure :-)
That was really fun to watch. I am looking at a catamaran right now and trying to get my wife to sell everything and cruise the caribbean. Hope to stay in touch!
Happy you are brave to live your dreams! It would be sad to say after 10 - 20 years, I wish we had . . .! Best wishes, you both seem very happy. Good sailing!
Hey! We're on a dock so we just fill the tanks up with a hose. In the winter time we have to run a longer hose since they shut off dockside water, but it's pretty much the same process. Fill up the tanks, use the water, fill them up again. Etc. We don't have a water maker (desalinator) on board, but we do carry 100 gallons at a time. That usually is enough for about a month of living in between filling our tanks!
So nice to see a comment of you in here. Gives me an opportunity to say Thanks!. You have no Idea how life changing your interview 8 years ago was for me!
wife and I have sailed together for 45 years, and we are still not done yet. We both could tell just by looking at you both, that you will be a couple that will be there together to the end . May your sails always be full and the sun on your back--- Mrseabeemike---U.S. Navy Retired
Great vid you two! My S.O. (significant other) and I have been looking toward this lifestyle for a year or so now. We bought a boat in Kemah Texas a half a year ago. Needs some assembly, but she's a beaut! We are taking her "hime" to Seattle WA here soon. I'm leaving the 26th and coming back the 2nd of August. You are only in Oregon, so maybe you could come up here and we can hang out while I'm putting her back together! Fun times!
Great video, probably one of the best live aboard video's I"ve seen. You guys are right, your young, no big land ties, see the world, sounds like you guys have the bug...LOL Hope you post more video's underway, and how about a tour?
Without sounding patronizing, I hope, I have to say you are a very personable couple. It would be great to hear about your life aboard years from now from Puerto Rico or a hundred other places you could be. I lived aboard a sailboat (with my dog) for 5 years around the San Juan and Gulf Islands (no worries about shrinkwrap)! With the right attitude, which you obviously have, it can be a rewarding lifestyle. Good luck!
Great video. I live on my Grampian 26 but am spending my winter on land in the north working... I don't recommend moving back to land! I miss it badly, but only a few more months. I didn't check for other videos yet, but if you didn't do so already post a video tour! Fair winds.
Hi guys , saw your video and now I see your boats for sale , hope all is well with you two and your just looking for another boat , sheets in and sail like mad , Harald
Yes you said it so #soulmates I so enjoyed the video as well thanks for sharing your life we all are so #envious may we all experience your #happiness Clete Flanagan did you see this?
It would be interesting to get in touch with Sophi & Travis prior to their trip this summer; I have many of the charts for Nova Scotia/Northumberland Straits if they'ld like to borrow them
Thank for sharing the video. A great way to have a quality of life at a reasonable cost! Is there a community spirit with fellow live aboards in your area?
Nice video. I too am wondering weather to live or not on a catamaran but am afraid of its maintenance cost any figure you can suggest me? By the way, how do you heat your boat? Thanks to whoever responds. :-)
Good for you. Be safe. Going to do exactly the same when I retire. I refuse to sit in a house alone waiting for the next series of the x factor or idol or some other pointless talent show. Time for excitement and adventure.
sound really great idea.. better than be in the city with lots of people at leat you could move everywhere and be peaceful.. it be like the future.. people living in the water and going to land to buy stuff and work :P greets from Mexico City.
Hi my name is A.J. and I just had a couple noob questions. I was interested in learning more about this type of lifestyle and wondered, you stay docked and work at the same place right? The only thing you have changed is living from apartment to boat? Also, in general do you find your cost of living to be more or less or equal to what it would be on land? Thanks for any reply and greetings from Florida!
I'm curious if you get in to a port do you like lock up the boat go ashore stay in a hotel for a few weeks or do you have to come back every night to look after your boat?
im a welder in VA. and me and my wife have been thinking about doing this but wonder how would we financially make it. what do you do for work if you go sailing?
You might have the perfect life. I would suggest maybe staying put for a bit, work hard and pay off the loans. Then you could do whatever where ever. And Puerto Rico is really cheap to live, so if you headed there debt free I can't imagine a better start to a life long adventure.
You are both incredible! I am 27 years old, I have grown up on the water and want nothing more to have immediate water access for the rest of my life. I'm single and have no ties, I have a good job but otherwise have nothing to lose. I dream of buying a sailboat and living upon it year round. I would like to buy something ~31 feet. I'm not looking for easy, but i am looking for doable, economical and fun. Any ideas on what to buy for a craft (ur chance to talk me out of it) p.s. from maine
OMG YOU GUYS ARE LIVING MY DREAM. I could spend weeks just sitting and talking to you guys asking the millions of questions I have. I would love to know what you figure it cost you per month to live on your boat with docking etc. What do you spend per year on maintenance for the boat? Is dock space expensive? And John why doesn't you mother in law want you to sire a child? What's wrong with her? You guys are so cool. I would love to do what you are doing.
sound really great idea.. better than be in the city with lots of people at leat you could move everywhere and be peaceful.. it be like the future.. people living in the water and going to land to buy stuff and work :P
I watch and listen to two soulmates and it is lovely.
Right!!
claris drouet They got divorced a year later
Noooooo, say it isn't so
Awwww man. If so, that sucks!
+claris drouet Why don't you make more videos about sailing Claris? I watched your latest one & loved it.
That is FANTASTIC!!!!!
Run while you can!. Do not fall for the 9-5 life.....EVER!
Feel the wind on your backs and the sun on your toes!
You two have such a great outlook on life. I'm 57 and am looking for the freedom that you have already discovered. You are WAY ahead of me. I wish you the best.

You two are great. I have lived aboard a bout for 12 years and have no desire to buy another house. It's really like being on vacation year round. Love it.
You both seem like a very lovely couple. This was a very sweet video. Your both doing what my husband and I have dreamed of doing for years.
Thanks for the interview, John! Lots of fun. Good luck with your boat-search!
Wonderful. All the best to both of you. Great that you're doing this while you're still young.
This is one of the best "live aboard" videos I have ever seen. It's great to see young couples really do what the want to do and take the leap to move in to a boat. Congrats with your choice of lifestyle! When I retire, I will do the same! Fair winds! :-)

You two are living your dream. Not saddled to a house payment and all the expense of it. If I was a young person like you this would be the life.
Good luck on all your future travel & family plans! Great to hear your story - thanks for sharing!

@@Nerd3927 that is so sweet! We miss the sailing life but house/garden is fun for us for now. Might end up in a boat again one day!

One of my favorite places......It is true unspoiled Caribbean
