    I have a lot of sympathy for the family and good on them for struggling through court battles and a media frenzy to try and do what was best for their child. Having said this. 1) I would not fault the medical profession for their assessment of an incurable disease and 2) I find it mind boggling that there is such agonising over a couple's struggle to help their child when thousands are dying in Yemen largely thanks to Saudi bombing which the British government (who we should be able to influence) facilitates by providing 'reloading' services.
    I sometimes worry that we have our priorities wrong and that our compassion is not directed where it is truly needed.

    What life saving treatment! The U.S specialist came over last week and examined Charlie himself and several tests were carried out, after which he had to tell the court that HIS treatment would be NO HELP to Charlie, there IS NO treatment that could help him. Charlie has been that Illl throughout the appeal process, there was NEVER a time when any existing or new treatment was available Only Gard's parents refused to believe the hospital, causing huge expense to the legal system, offending Charlie's medical team and inciting people like YOU to be offensive to a wonderfully caring hospital team

    This may stop parents taking their children to hospital. No decent loving parent should have their children under a court order to stop them caring for their child as they see fit. The parents are decent and should never had doctors ordering them around. This is going to cause so much conflict because parents will loose faith in doctors.

      Herbert Chapman AFC held captive? That's a funny way to put it. If the hospital that the child was at allowed him to be taken away from it to die where the parents wanted him to, he would of needlessly suffered. Traveled to attempt the untested methods that would also put the poor child through more pain would of most likely caused him to die on route.

    We have a world renown specialist in America that has successfully treated children with the same condition as Charlie, but the NHS doctors know more than this world renown specialist? Come on now

    • @JammyBrisson
      @JammyBrisson 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The treatment has been used for 'TK2-related MDS' not the 'RRM2B-related MDS' that Charlie has. There have been no test in animals let alone humans for this condition and it is not even known if the treatment can pass the blood-brain barrier (which for Charlie's version of the disease would be essential). In essence it's a question of whether it is best to provide palliative care or trial an untested therapy with a questionable basis.

    • @znmo0nlight
      @znmo0nlight 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Americunt arrogance at it's best. GOSH is a world renowned hospital, they have more world renowned specialists combined than that fraud of a doctor from the US who is obviously interested specifically for financial purposes. Tell me, why didn't that doctor go and visit Charlie 6 months ago when he was first allowed to?

    • @swewunna
      @swewunna 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jimmy Johnson.... Nobody including the doctors in America has successfully treated identical condition in animal let alone Human being. NHS Consultants are on par with American counter parts and GOSH is NOT a small community hospital which treat diarrhoea and chest infections only. Your ignorance might be a bliss for you but a resoundingly dumb to the whole world.

      bluewater454 Stop fear mongering this has nothing to do with socialised medicine.
      The relative legislation is the Children Act which requires the best interest of the child must be the first priority.
      The doctors treating him didn’t believe his best interest were being met and so the Courts had to intervene and they decided on the evidence that it wasn’t in his best interests.

    Very sad and can't believe the damming comments made by people against the doctors and specialist in dealing with this case. We have the best NHS and specialist in all areas in the world, working here in the UK. Additionally, the government do not make decisions on your health, the NHS does in terms of individual's treatment plans - so stop blaming the government and austerity(living within our means), this has nothing to do with this sad case.

    • @captainamerica9028
      @captainamerica9028 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      P Marsh - Your GOSH doctors didn't have the expertise to treat and save Charlie, so they should have swallowed their pride and turned him over to the specialist in America that has saved several children just like Charlie. If you had a doctor in the UK that had more knowledge about treating a certain condition, we're sending the child over to him in the UK. We'll send the child to Antarctica if there's a doctor there that can save his life.

    • @pmarsh3700
      @pmarsh3700 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool Cucumber. Apparently it was unlikely that he would have benefited from the US medical treatment and maybe a little bit of false hope? The trouble with everyone (including myself) commenting, is that we do not know the full medical facts about this case, and it is easy to criticise doctors. I Just wish we as a nation would praise our wonderful medical people, they can't cure everyone and we must also understand that sometimes treatment cost many thousands of pounds for one individual. Doctors and nursing staff everyday are saving lives, so we need to put this into perspective.

      That was not the case at all. Charlie's care had already cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. But that is not the point. And he had that horrible plastic tube up his nose, poor little chap.

  • @swewunna

    I am surprised that this case drag on so long. In any other court cases, both parents would have been charged with contempt of court with their abusive behaviour towards anything from GOSH doctors to defence QC and even the judge walking out of court room and shouting etc. This should never have happened and listened to GOSH doctors. Unnecessary offer of false hope by high profile Religious and Political figures didn't help either. May I asked how many children with similar disease in the USA get nucleoside treatment without adequate Health Insurance cover? In the end everybody wanted this to finish one way or the other.

      They didn't want the child coming to America and being saved, because the doctors in the UK thought it would make them look inferior. The UK doctors said they were unable to save Charlie, but our US doctor said there's a chance he could save Charlie, because he has saved other children just like him. They should have let him come to the US. Why do they even have the authority to decide? The child belongs to the parents and it should be their decision.
